Second Serve: Off the Record 2

Summary:

Remember Beam?
Yeah — the best friend who’s always on the sidelines of Yin and War’s dramas.
He’s played a huge part in their love story… but what about his own?

Beam’s got no time for love — just work, family, and cleaning up after those two’s chaos.
He wasn’t looking for anything, really. Then a business meeting turns into coffee with someone unexpected.
And maybe, just maybe, life’s serving him a second chance: his second serve.

Chapter 1: "Beam"

Chapter Text

Beam.

That’s what they’ve called me since high school. I’ve heard it for so long that sometimes I forget my real name doesn’t even have those letters. On paper, I’m Nadol Ramprasert — but never mind that. Beam’s not bad at all.

“Dude, are you for real?!” Yin grabs my collar, looking like he’s about to punch me. War stepped out to take a call, so it’s just the two of us at the table.

Yin, my best friend’s fiancé, and me — the idiot who decided to tease him for no reason.

I can’t help but laugh. This guy’s really possessive when it comes to my friend.

“Are you even listening? I said I used to — past tense!” I raise both hands in surrender, still grinning. “Come on, calm down. Hahaha.”

He finally lets go when he spots War walking back toward us.

“You didn’t hit on him, did you?”

I sigh. “I did not.”

“Good.”

War joins us, confused. “What’s with all the drama? Why are you pouting like that, Yin?”

“I just told him that I used to like you in high school,” I say, nonchalant.

“Oh.”

“Oh?” Yin glares at War. “You knew?”

War shrugs. “Well, he confessed in the middle of our final match, so… I didn’t really mind it.”

“I got hit on the head instead after that,” I add, rolling my eyes.

“You knew but didn’t tell me?” Yin huffs. “We’re getting married in a few months and—”

War cuts him off with a kiss. Right in front of me.

I nearly curse. These two are so comfortable having me around they’ve forgotten I’m still very much single.

Yes — single.

Not because I’m picky or unattractive, but because I just haven’t found anyone who makes my heart race like it’s about to explode, who makes being apart feel unbearable.

Most of the people who flirt with me only care about my name or my family’s money. No one’s ever tried to know me — just Beam, the cheerful guy with the easy life. So I got tired.

Better to enjoy being alone than keep searching for something that probably isn’t there.

I leave the bar and drive to a nearby river. Plug in my headphones and play some random song.

It’s one of those rare nights I actually feel lonely.

Damn those lovebirds — for making me feel this way.
