The word echoed in Romeo's head like a bullet ricocheting around his skull.
Actually, no. A bullet would have been better. But, of course, the Friar had forbade him from offing himself.
Besides, he couldn't. It would break Juliet's heart.
Did it even matter, though? It's not like he could see her.
Not when he was banishéd.
He knew the Friar's words held truth when he'd said that the lack of execution had been a mercy, but Romeo didn't care.
He would've much rather been hanged in the streets than have to leave Verona's walls and Juliet's slender arms.
