"Who goes there?" Musket bristled her blue fur, eyes rushing the terrain to make sure she wasn't getting ambushed...again.
Out from the nearby rose bushes came Cobalt, proud in her fluffy fur. She purred and nuzzled up against Musket's side.
The shecat grumbled and pressed her side back against hers, careful not to topple the other small she down.
"Don't do that, you scare me."
"You worry too much." Cobalt spoke hypocritically, as she was already looking her down for any injuries and bugs.
"I missed you."
Musket sat down and purred back at her.
"Likewise. Sprout has been needy, it's rough out here."
"I got an apprentice." Cobalt nicked a twig out of the messy fur of her friend.
"He's nervous, probably more than I am, but I can tell he has a good spark in him."
"That's nice. What's his name? Is Swan accommodating him?" Musket stared off, paws playing into the dirt.
"Swan is grumpy as ever, and his name is Robin. Swan named him. I think they might be kin."
Cobalt's paws ran over her spine, growing a little concerned.
"Are you being fed enough? Our colony has plenty of prey if you need it. I'm sure Vixen would share."
"I'm okay, you just caught me without my lunch." She coughed through a laugh.
"Musket." The round she shifted to stare her down, "Your personal hygiene and well being need to be in tip top shape right now. Especially if you want to keep nursing that kitten. If a colony member finds him and he's malnourished, he will end up in my paws, and you will too. You will be forced to stay in our base."
"No thanks..." Musket leaned back.
Cobalt backed off and huffed, "Exactly. Believe me, Prowlingcrane brings his kittens over sometimes and they are LOUD. You don't want that."
Musket nodded back, "Okay. I get it."
The light blue she stared hard at her for a moment.....then backed off, sitting down.
"I care too much about you for you to carelessly throw your life away, Musket. Dare I say that I care more for you than my own colony members."
"How nice of you."
"Please stay out of trouble, I won't survive without someone to tell all my day to." She snickered.
"Oh trust me, you'll find friends."
"I really won't."
"Okay Cobalt.." Musket stood back up and shook her head, "I need to get back to hunting, you should get to your clan mates."
"Colony mates, but yes...I will..." Cobalt stood after her and gave the she a quick nudge with her head, "I'll see you tomorrow."
Musket purred and nudged her back, "See you tomorrow.."
