Work Text:
He had been locking his bike just as Harvey pulled up to the curb of the street in front of Pearson Specter. A long red Chevrolet with black stripes running down the hood, glistening in the morning sun. A different car than yesterday. Just as the car before that was different.
Mike scoffed from exasperation, finding the whole car thing ridiculous. The man was changing cars more frequently than his own underwear.
He knew Harvey was proud of his job as well as the big number that comes with it, which in turn made him a big show off. Since the day he met him, and afterward he'd seen more of it in the two months they had started dating. Showing off anything from fancy suits to music, pricey restaurants and small gifts for Mike. He couldn’t lie and say it didn’t bother him sometimes, knowing he could never repay him.
Sure, he liked the cars, especially the older models, with how hot they made Harvey look in them. The classy ride together with that tailored suit and slick back hair would make anyone turn heads, and Mike's knees weak. It’s with that reason he purposely ignored the ego reeking his way and the way Harvey was smirking at him from the leather car seat.
His body jerked from getting startled by the loud honk the man behind purposely had pressed to get a reaction, because Harvey Specter does not get ignored.
“You still haven’t complimented my cool car over here,” Harvey called out, another beep following. “1969 Chevrolet Camaro. I know you want to look at it Mikey”
He had to roll his eyes, turning to the older man, meeting a face with sun glasses and a smile more shineful than the scorching sun over their heads.
“What are you? Five? You need my validation for your toy cars?” He said.
Harvey reached up and brought down his glasses to give Mike a mocking look.“Says the one with a broken toy bike-,” he removed the glasses completely, instead putting them in his suit front pocket and further reached to open his card door, stepping out too gracefully for a man. “Who, mind you, bikes to his law firm. I know damn well I pay you enough to take a taxi to work” He finished as he now stood in front of the younger man and his sad toy bike.
A dirty bike he very much liked and wont let it get insulted like that.
“When did you start hating my bike, which is in great condition actually and will clearly outlive all your cars,” Mike gave a pointed look, turning around to head to the firm doors. Footsteps quickly followed behind. “I don’t hate your bike. I just think there are other ways to tire yourself out, if you know what I mean” the man murmured in his ear while giving him one of those Harvey smirks.
That comment justified another eye roll from Mike. His ego was already massive enough, he didn’t need to know his dumb flirting methods worked too.
Mike hurried to press the button just when they got onto the elevator before someone could get on and interrupt their morning talks.
Seeing the doors gradually slid shut, Harvey's arm went around Mikes waist as they stood face to face now. “Give me one good reason that bike deserves your sweat,” he asked.
“Uhm one– its practical, two– less traffic, three– a good workout, four– It’s very fun, fiv–” Reason number five got interrupted by Harvey pressing his lips against his, possibly to shut him up. It worked like a charm.
He pulled away just as the elevator dinged and the doors opened to the real world, bursting their frail bubble. Yet they held each other's gaze, soaking in their view.
“You should try it sometime," Mike said at last.
Harvey barked out a laugh “Not a chance”
Harvey gave him one last smile before walking out, leaving Mike to stare after him. Failing to notice Mike had already started planning.
On Sunday it was his turn to plan out their date.
—--------------------
Early in the mornings getting to feel Mike's slender body, naked skin on his own, has become his preferred way of waking up. Surrounded by the young man's warmth and scent was a great way to get up, making his day good.
This sunday morning his bed was empty, cold and the smell was gone. This was not going to be a good day.
Indeed it wasn’t, because as he dragged himself out of bed and out the bedroom, he found himself standing bare feet in front of a full-size bike in his god damn living room.
It was a dark and shiny bike with a big red bow on top, which was definitely not part of his apartment. It didn’t help that the man missing from his bed was smiling broadly shouting a surprise.
Wearid, he rubbed his eyes aggressively. “Please don’t say what I think this means”
“It was my turn to plan a date, sooo,” Mike dragged out his O’s and flailed his hands at the stupid thing, “We are going on a biking trip!” he finished off
“You’re dragging me to go biking on a Sunday morning, our one free day of work” Mike's answer was nodding happily which in turn made Harvey spin back around and fall back into bed.
“Be ready in 10. Breakfast’s on the table!” He happily called from the other room.
Harvey let out a loud groan so Mike could hear just how pissed he was about the situation. What went better unknown was the bright smile hidden beneath the pillows. Planning the dates were mainly his doing. Seeing Mike take such interest, showing so much excitement was..nice. No one had ever shown such joy about spending time with him. Hell, Mike even bought him a brand new bike and the man never bothered to spend money on luxury things.
This day was going to suck for his legs, and he was going to enjoy every second.
—-----------------
Currently they were outside on the sidewalk preparing to leave, as soon as Mike made sure absolutely everything was there. Mike's bag was crammed with food for the picnic he planned, and brain geared up with the route for the destination. As he checked one last time he closed the bag, decided they were all set, threw it on his back before reaching down to get their helmets. Putting his own on and holding the other for Harvey. Just to be sure he opened the weather app again, pleading for the lovely weather to stay lovely so Harvey doesn’t make him eat shit for biking in a storm.
Ok, the weather's looking promising, food’s packed, why is he still holding the helmet.
Looking up he was met with a face of disgust like he had burned down the man's firm. Exasperated, opened his mouth in disbelief. “I’m not going to stand here and teach you why at your big age,”
“But the hair!” he exclaimed the obvious fact.
“Harvey!”
“What if someone sees me?” He said.
“No one will see you stop being a prick and put it on, it's a helmet!”
“OK” He answered crossly, putting it on forcefully, having Mike need to hold in his laughter. “Can I at least know where we're heading?” he asked.
“No”
“Touche”
“Did you just say touche”
“start biking dammit”
—----------------------
After racing and some more fighting they had finally found a calm rhythm and were now biking quietly beside each other. Moving now towards the more suburban part of New York let them breathe in fresh air and enjoy the greenery in front of them.
Don’t get him wrong, he was a born and raised new yorker and loved it. City lights and hot dog stands had him at peace. Regardless, the sight of family houses and cozy gardens gave him a special kind of peace. And looking up at Harvey, he hoped he felt it too. To think about it, going his whole life cornered with skyscrapers and mcdonald shops wasn’t healthy for a human. He wished he could get out like this more, did Harvey tho?
Was Harvey enjoying himself, or was this a complete miss? Normal people planned out dates at restaurants, spending the night together at most. This was starting to feel like a teenage romance scene which made all of this so so naive, oh god how did Mike miss this?
For the first time Mike was sweating for a complete other reason than the warmth.
To stop this before he lost control and fell over, he looked over to see a bench close to their right and hit the brakes. Harvey braked almost immediately after realizing Mike's halt.
Shit. Say something.
“Picnic! At the bench” he ignored the weird look Harvey was giving him and quickly staggered off the bike rolling over to sit down at the chipped away seating. He swiftly bent down to start digging through his backpack and hid from Harvey's look as he sat down.
Just as the exchange of helmets he reached towards the man without a glimpse to give him a sandwich. Sweating, throat itchy he went to find a drink, realizing dumbly he had packed wine, now tepid and distasteful, for the occasion. No, not romantic at all. Soon Mike would start preaching Romeo and Juliet for Harvey while throwing roses around them.
He didn’t even dare look at the red checkered blanket stuffed at the bottom.
“Can you stop thinking so loud and enjoy the food?” Harvey disrupted his traveling thoughts and a mouthful of a subway sandwich.
“I'll plan a more normal date next time” he uttered.
“What?”
“I mean this was mostly to get back at you for all the bike comments”
He swallowed his food down hard. “What is this about?”
“I accidently planned out a date stolen straight out of a romcom,” taking a breath “And now i just seem overly romantic and absolutely cheap for not just making a reservation at that restaurant you had been talking abou-
“I- Cheap? You bought me a bike Mike” Harvey tried to justify.
“Exactly! A stupid bike when-”
“I think it’s a big deal-”
“But it’s not Harvey! You - fuck, you buy me gifts, and books, and pay for expensive restaurants all the time!” He stated.
“So? I do it out of love”
“It’s too much and i can never repay you whatdidyousay”
Harvey heaved a sigh, shifting his position closer to look at Mike better, “Mike..I don’t buy you things to prove something. I do it because..I’m bad at this feelings thing, and buying you things is, I guess, my way of showing you that appreciation"
He let his hand wander to Mike's knee, keeping it there. And there the same gaze, same starring contest was. All that greenery surrounding them yet Harvey's eyes swallowed him whole. That in a room of darkness he would keep searching for the equally colored eyes just to feel the gaze on his skin.
“You planned this entire day to spend time together, When have I ever put this much thought behind a date? Biking? I don't remember the last time I goddamn sat on a bike,” He let out a chuckle. “I love the way you surprise me each day with your ideas and thoughts. I love the way you care about others, including me. And I love you Micheal.”
He searched for a stupid joke, anything to make this less serious except he was only seeing that soft blinding smile, gleaming eyes, creases stretching the corner of his eyes, meaning it was those genuine Harvey smiles. Which Mike loved as that smile was just for him, just meant for his eyes in moments like this. Mike loved his eyes and god he loved the man that retains them too. He had fallen so deeply in love with him since day one only fear had kept him from breaking until now.
“I love you too Harvey” He said back before leaning in for a kiss. It was a soft, gentle kiss, because they were in their own little bubble.
Harvey pulled back to again look at Mike. “I do find the romcom picnic very funny, don’t think I didn’t see the blanket.”
He started giggling letting his head fall on Harvey's shoulder, “Oh god”
“Am I off the hook for bullying your bike?”
“Nah, keep next Sunday open. We're taking a ride”
He pulled back with pleading in his eyes. “I appreciate all of this I really do, But my ass is so sore and it’s not for the reason I want it to be”
“Calm down, I meant the car” Mike answered.
“Oh so you do like my cars”
“I like the man in them”
