Chapter Text

"Three bodies. Wounds all in similar places—the crime scene - also in similar places. Out in the open yet hidden enough that it took a few hours for it to be reported." A pause as she stared at the outline of the body, which was concealed by the typical white sheet. "Whoever this is, they are no amateur. I couldn't find any leading evidence on the scenes. There was a small plastic bag of cocaine, but it only had the victims' fingerprints on it."

The room was quiet, save for the small breeze coming in through the barely opened window and the occasional chatter from the hallway about who knows what—"Did you hear? There was another murder..." "Really? Gosh, that's bad.." "Apparently the police caught someone... I think it was just bait."—the typical conversation a hospital could have. The breeze fiddled with the ends of the sheet, raising them up as if it were a soul rising to the heavens. Sun, breaking in through the blinds, creating a soft atmosphere. It was peaceful... well as peaceful as being in front of a dead body can be. It was rotting, but most bodies rot quickly. Forensics show that the person was murdered around 14 hours ago—not long enough to show obvious signs of decay. Both were thankful for that, no foul odour stinking up the room nor any leakage from mouth and nose.

This body was one of the quicker ones to be found. In the middle of a park, though, it was around 2 AM for the time of death. A perfect time for a thought like this, where everyone was asleep and only the weirdos were out. A mother, just simply taking her child on a walk, stumbled onto the body, which was pushed into a bush after the torture. Such an innocent day turned into a horror.

The doctor pulled back the sheet, exposing the grime sight. The victim, a man, neither age nor name, disclosed. A supposed drug addict considering the cocaine found in the scene. The victim's face mangled, cuts all over it to the point where it was impossible to know who it was by first sights. And a clean stab where the heart was. "We've been trying to figure out who this one is. Possibly connect them to the other victims who suffered the same injuries." The forensics said, exhaustion evident in her tone.

The doctor nodded in response. He didn't really have much control over this one case, yet the bodies involved with it were always placed with him. "Seems good enough," He started, "Perhaps we will actually get something this time. Hopeful thinking, but what else could we do right now." As he spoke, the forensics covered the body once more, the white sheet framing the victims upper body. It was almost as if it was a barrier between life and death—a border, a limbo.

It was a horrid thought. To murder someone in cold blood, someone who seemed so innocent in an environment that promoted health.

"A coworker of mine said that the other bodies are taking up too much space in the morgue." The doctor continued. "If your team is going to do anything with them, then do it. We have other bodies to put in there, Ann." It wasn't a command, more of a hurried suggestion, one that should've been said long ago.

The forensics sighed, making her way to the head of the bed that the victim laid in. "We'll do that soon." She spoke, her tone calm, almost as if she had been practised that line over and over again. "It's not every day where we have to deal with a serial killer, Chishiya. We also need to prepare room for the bodies."

The sun pierced onto Ann's face, though was soon covered by a foreboding cloud. The once light atmosphere turning more corrupt by the second. Without another word, the forensics rolled the bed out of the room, pushing past the doors as if they were nothing but a mere obstacle to an even bigger goal. Perhaps it was.

The journey to the morgue was a simple one. The elevator ride to the basement boring due to the lack of company. More times than not, Chishiya had followed Ann to the sorry state of some people's resting place. However, this time, the doctor had more major business to oversee... if anything could be more important than a serial killer, that may or may not already be in custody. It hadn't been confirmed yet, for all Ann knew she could be doing this for quite literally nothing.

That would be fun.

The morgue was a desolate place. It always was, save for the one or two people who made ensure a smooth business. It was unsettling. The building above being such a crowded, almost overwhelming area, yet just a few feet below sat something that resembled a ghost town. Though that thought was ironic.

Dwindling down the abandoned corridors, Ann pushed the stretcher through the doors, exposing herself to the coldness that stabilised the corpses. It was a familiar feeling. She's had to be in a mourge more times that she could count.

The process was quick, also second nature to Ann at this point. If she wanted to she could do it with her eyes closed.

A breeze of air hit her as the doors opened once more, the gentle footsteps of another person entering filled the quiet room. Ann paid no attention to it, people always come and go.

The footsteps paused several feet away from her, she could feel their gaze. Turing her head slightly to the left, a man in a trench coat stood. He stood tall, proud even, clearly confident in his abilities and stature.

"Hello Ann." He said, tone flat and monotone, "I hope you have time to talk."
