“San Lang, are you alright?”
A concerned hand comes up to cradle his cheek. The other hovers around his side, fingers ghosting over the fabric. Hua Cheng curses internally; his discomfort must have been too apparent. His side thrums dully, and the throb in his head is making his thoughts hazy. These grievances are nothing for a Ghost King, and he especially does not want to worry his beloved with such trivialities.
“Mn, just a bit tired.” He shuffles to lay on his side, smiling to suppress the slight wince that escapes him. “Gege must be exhausted from the day, this husband apologises for hindering your rest and causing you to worry.”
“Nonsense,” Xie Lian huffs, though the crease between his brows eases a little. “I worry because I care. And especially after San Lang’s stunt this afternoon, it is natural I worry even more.”
“It was nothing,” Hua Cheng chortles, wrapping his arm around Xie Lian’s waist and pulling him close. They had gone to the mortal realm earlier in the afternoon to handle some prayers about a monster causing some havoc in the area. The lowlife had tried to sneakily attack Xie Lian while he was distracted, but Hua Cheng had stepped in the line of fire just in time.
The wound had probably been one of the 10 most ignorable hits Hua Cheng had ever received, but apparently, Xie Lian had known only one thing: his husband was hurt.
“It was amazing to see that useless trash burn to ashes. Gege’s hot when he is angry.”
“And right now I am angry at you,” Xie Lian huffs, smacking at his husband’s chest lightly. Hua Cheng grits his teeth through his smile, hoping his discomfort doesn’t show. “Stop throwing yourself needlessly into danger.”
It is a bickering they usually have, neither willing to back down. Yet his wounds must have hit him a little too hard apparently, for today, Hua Cheng finds his energy to be waning.
“Okay, beloved.” He whispers, gently pressing a kiss in Xie Lian’s hair and breathing into his scent. He is answered with a soft kiss and a snuggle, and it isn’t long before the comforting warmth lulls him to sleep.
