Summary:

Date! Start! What is Susie's idea for a date? Well, much like her, it's a bit unorthodox.

Work Text:

Kris takes a long, deep breath in. Steeling their nerves, they exhale. Standing on this windowsill, they know what they have to do. They put one leg out, and let their body fall, barreling toward the ground.

Their body falls into the strong arms that were waiting beneath their window, who places them gently on the ground afterward. The night air was cold and unforgiving, but the two of them thankfully had on warm coats to combat the chill.

"Heh... You're a little too comfortable with jumping out of windows than I'd like to think about." Susie says, rubbing the back of her neck. Kris just shrugged and gave an awkward half-smile. Susie took their hand in hers, and started leading them in some unknown direction. "So, this place I'm taking you to... Its kinda my secret place. So, just, don't tell anyone about it, ya got that?" She said, looking back at Kris, who nodded. Those ruby red eyes of theirs that Susie loved were staring back at her. She felt her face heating up and had to force herself to look forward again before that weird feeling she got in her chest exploded. "This place will be perfect for our first date, trust."

Kris blushed at the mention of this being their first date... they weren't sure what to do with the new feelings they had discovered about Susie. On one hand, Susie always managed to put a smile on their face; on the other, everytime they heard Susie laugh or saw her smile, it gave them this gut feeling that almost made them wanna puke... But in a good way? Kris had never felt this way about anyone before. Now, they found themselves being dragged along by this girl... It was safe to say, Kris was along for the ride. They weren't sure that they minded too badly, either.

"Where are we going, Susie?" They asked, in their normal monotone. Susie didn't say anything on the matter, other than "We're almost there, dude." Right now, Kris was getting a bit worried, because they were entering some heavily forested area... "...Susie. Be honest with me. You're not an axe murderer, are you?" Kris asked, dead serious. Susie guffawed, looking back at them long enough to ease their worries with a smile.

"Only in the dark world, dude. And only when I have to." She answered. Kris wasn't entirely sure that 'eased' their worries, but at least Susie made them feel lighter just by smiling at them like that. The pair emerged out of some kind of brush or bush, and Susie proclaimed loudly, "We're here!"

Walking out from behind Susie to get a proper look, it seems that Susie has brought them to... What looked to be an old, wooden car shed with a rusted car inside. There were various tools inside an old, red, almost dilapidated toolbox. Susie walked over, breaking off from Kris's hand, and lifted the toolbox up onto the table inside the shed. She turned back to face Kris, gesturing two hands toward the car.

"Ta daaaa!" She said, with great fanfare. Kris just stared at the ancient looking car, face scrunching up in confusion. "...We're fixing a car?" They asked, finally. Susie's excitement crumpled a bit.

"Well, yeah. I thought maybe you'd like to help me get this puppy up and running. Imagine if we can get this thing working again! Driving around wherever we wanna go, whenever we wanna go. Wouldn't that be so cool?" She asked, gesturing wildly and excitedly toward the car as she spoke. Kris approached, not saying much as they inspected the car. The hood was open, and it had an engine that was missing cylinders, a stripped battery, and a completely rusted interior.

"...It seems pretty busted." Kris says, finally. Susie sighs.

"...I know... My dad, he.. He knows a lot about this car stuff. But... I could never just ASK him about it... Heh, deathwish, much? So... I've just been kinda playin' it by ear. I mean, its not like I don't know what I'm doing. Dad taught me everything he knows, but... This model, I've... Never worked with. He'd probably be super disappointed in me if he knew what I was doing. He'd probably kick my ass, too..." This seemed like a very, very sore topic for Susie. Kris didn't quite know what to do about this, but they felt real sorrow in their chest for what Susie must go through. They walked over to Susie, looking up at her. She looked back, realizing that she might have spiralled a bit there. "Uhhh, sorry about that, Kris, I-"

Susie was silenced from the warm arms wrapping around her, as Kris hugged her tightly.

"Its okay, Susie." They said, softly. Their breath was smoke in the air, and Susie just stood there for a moment, shocked. She marvelled at Kris, not thinking they'd do something like this. Then again... They had kissed before. Why would this be any different? But even still...

Susie couldn't help the sting of tears collecting in her eyes, as she shakily returned the hug. "Th-Thanks, Kris..." She said, her voice suddenly weaker than she remembered. The two embraced for a while, before finding themselves laying atop the rusty car, resting on the roof as they looked at the stars through a hole in the ceiling of the shed. Susie had her hands behind her head, Kris with their hands intertwined and laying on their stomach.

"...This was a crummy idea for a first date, huh?" Susie said after a bit, chuckling. Susie never moved her head, but she heard Kris looking at her from the shift in the fabric on their coat. She could practically feel those ruby reds staring at her, practically searing her under their intensity. She shivered a bit, partly from the cold and partly due to the feeling she got from being under Kris's gaze.

"...I don't think so. I got to hang out with you, right? I think that's all that matters." Kris said, simply, before turning their head to look at the stars again. Susie smiled, thinking for a moment.

"Thanks, Kris. Promise that we'll go on a better date soon, okay?" Susie said, adjusting her body to get more comfortable. She laid one of her hands to her side, and Kris wasted no time taking it into theirs. Susie jumped a bit, and looked at Kris. They looked back, smiling at her.

"Anything with you would be just fine." They said, genuinely. Susie felt her face heating up again, and she began laughing to cope with the butterflies in her stomach.

"Hehehe! Okay, Cassanova. Whatever you say." She teased, squeezing Kris's hand in her own. They gazed at each other for a moment, scanning each other's features lovingly. After a few moments of silence, Kris would use their other hand to reach over, grabbing Susie by the snout and kissing her. Her eyes went wide for a moment, before she closed them and kissed back. Kris moved the hand on her snout up to her cheek. Susie moved over onto her side slightly, facing Kris more. They broke apart and connected again multiple times, before Susie had to put a stop to it. "Wait wait wait wait- I can't breathe, dude, geez..." She huffed, putting a hand over her forehead, pushing her hair back a bit. Kris just smiled, cupping her face in their hands. She smiled, gazing at them.

"...I love you, Kris." Susie said. Kris froze, and the goofiest smile emerged on their face. Susie chuckled. "Dude... What is that face?"

"...I love you too, Susie." They got closer, and held Susie close. She wrapped an arm around them, and the two laid there, listening to each other breathe slowly. They ended up dozing off right there, wrapped up in each other's warmth and comfort.
