Chapter Text
David “Hesh” Walker has been feeling pretty down in the dumps recently. His dad died and the same man who killed his dad took his brother.
Hesh couldn’t find the motivation to do anything: eat, sleep, shower, drink water. He couldn’t even bring himself to feed Riley.
Merrick took notice quickly when Hesh missed training. Hesh never misses training. Naturally, he sends in Kick.
—————
Kick sits down at the edge of Hesh’s bed, looking down at the depressed Lieutenant. “Y’know,” Kick starts, shifting slightly. “Riley needs to be fed. I’m sure Keegan is sick of feeding him.” His voice was gentle, almost soft.
Hesh just grunts, rolling over to ignore the man. “C’mon man, you have to get out of bed.” Starts Kick. Hesh pulls his blanket over his head.
Kick sighs. “Fine, no burgers for you.” Kick says, standing up.
“Wait.” Hesh starts, his voice gruff from lack of use. “Don’t leave me, please.” Pleads the man, who finally sat up. Kick looks down at him, a slightly shocked look on his face. He sits back down, putting his hand on Hesh’s shoulders.
“Look man, I know it’s rough, but you have to get out of bed.” Kick starts, moving his hands to his lap. “I’m sure you can talk to Keegan. Or a medic can refer you to a therapist or psychologist. Also, try and shower?” kick says, a soft look on his face.
It quickly turns into a barely held back smile. “Don’t wanna be smelling like Keegan, now do you?”
Kick watches as the look of helplessness forms into a soft smile, almost smirk like.
————
His talk with Kick was just enough to get him out of bed.
He looks pitiful, he can tell by the look on his teammates’ faces. He probably looks homeless. Sometimes, he feels homeless. The only thing keeping him from actually being homeless is the fact that he’s in the military and his inheritance from his dad.
God, his dad. Elias Walker. The man didn’t even look at him while dying. It was all about Logan. Logan got his mask, most of his money, most of his attention, and all of his affection. All because Logan looks more like mom.
All of the sudden, Hesh didn’t feel hungry. He wanted to go back into his barrack and lay down. But he already left his room.
————
Hesh gets to the mess hall, chewing at his nails. The sudden urge to vomit settled deep into his stomach.
He takes his seat between Kick and An empty chair. That’s where Logan should be, he thinks to himself, wiping the saliva off of his nails onto his cargo pants.
Merrick sets a plate of burger patties next to the buns, telling everyone to assemble and dig in.
Hesh watches the others assemble their food. Keegan took the most, like always. Merrick was a close second.
He himself had a few pieces of fruit and a sad looking burger. Kick noticed that Hesh wasn’t eating as much as he usually does.
“Hesh, you should try to take more food.” Kick says, sounding judgmental. Hesh gives him a glare.
If Kick doesn’t shut up, Hesh was just not going to eat.
Just as he was about to take a bite, Keegan feels the need to add something. “Damn, dude. You’re built like a stick! When was the last time you ate?”
Hesh didn’t respond. He felt like crying. He just wanted to eat his damn burger. But of course, the fatass that is Keegan just HAS to say something!
“Nobody asked you, Keegan.” Merrick snaps, mustard smeared into his beard. Keegan glares at Merrick, about ready to snap back, when Hesh storms off.
——————
Kick comes to check up on Hesh a few hours later, finding Hesh sitting in front of a mirror. The man was literally sitting crisscross on the floor, pouting at his own reflection. Kick couldn’t help but notice how beautiful Hesh truly was. It was a shame something like this was happening to such a beautiful man.
