Work Text:
If there was one thing he knew his partner hated, it was using so many credits to travel.
Granted, it was a rare vacation they were taking from their work with the Akatsuki Space Travelers Corp. What was the point of travelling across space hunting dangerous criminals if they didn’t get the chance to use it?
It had taken quite a bit of arguing before they had agreed on a space cruise through the rings of Jupiter as they sit out in the observation deck; there was a large pool, some places to sit with a perfect view of the planet they were circling as the atmosphere of it was shifting with radiant colors.
Hidan sipped his mai tai with a hum, having sunglasses on as he crossed his legs; wearing a black Hawaiian shirt with red skulls on it, dark red shorts and a good pair of black sandals. He’s been waiting to do something like this since they had their big payday and he sure as hell wasn’t going to waste it being grumpy.
“You know Kakuzu, you’re meant to relax and enjoy the sights while on vacation. I mean, yeah Jupiter is a gas planet but from here it looks like you’re watching paint being swirled around by someone on the other side,” Hidan sipped his drink with a relaxed sigh. He’s been desperately needing this.
“I wouldn’t mind if you hadn’t made me spend so much money on this,” Kakuzu rumbled as he crossed his arms; wearing a dark green button up, black dress pants and loafers. It made him look a little out of place on the observation deck/pool area. His long dark brown hair is tied back in a bun as he had the medical mask over his face. Beside him on a side table was a simple lemonade.
Hidan throws back the rest of the mai tai with a snort, “Forgive me for wanting an actual vacation you and I could enjoy instead of something cheap and boring. Honestly Kakuzu, you should loosen the purse strings just a bit.”
Green eyes on red sclera narrowed at Hidan as he picked up his drink once more with a huff. Kakuzu logically knows that he still has a lot of money left over. Money that he could be sorting through to see what repairs to the ship they and their fellow teammates resided on until work was available. What needed to be restocked, what new things they needed and the likes.
Instead, here he is on a cruise ship that cost money that could have easily paid for brand new, high grade medical equipment instead of spending it on this.
“....still. If I wanted to watch a planet I would have just driven our own cruiser around it.”
“Ugh, Kakuzu come on the least you can do is try to enjoy it,” Hidan huffed at him with narrowed fuchsia eyes, “Why not get something a little more adventurous? Fuck maybe a vodka soda if you want! You’re on vacation–”
“I have a budget Hidan and I’m not going to blow it on expensive drinks that just end up giving me a nasty stomach ache.” he spat back, crossing his arms as he sank down in the beach chair they were given. Honestly he’d much rather be on earth sitting on one of those beaches instead of by a pool that smelled like chlorine while watching a planet overhead, “Besides you know how expensive it is to pay off the employees here so they don’t report those missing people?”
Hidan huffed and crossed his arms, “Hey, this is my vacation too. I have a right to still practice some of my rituals.”
“We are literally on a cruise ship with no escape. You’re lucky no one spotted you on a security feed. I am not about to risk you getting arrested and then having to bail you out for the seventh time,” Kakuzu hissed at him under his breath, his eyes narrowed and teeth gritted, “So no I am not going to enjoy myself because my partner is an idiot.”
This made the silver-haired, pale man blink in surprise at him before he puffed his cheeks unhappily at him, “...and here I was hoping we could get a nice dinner later and be able to relax over some steak and monkfish liver…”
That seemed to make Kakuzu perk up at the mention of his favorite meal. Then he scowled, “..am I paying for it?”
“Nope.”
“You’re sure?”
“One hundred percent.”
“How are you paying for it?”
“I have money too, you’re not the only one who saves up, old man. Besides I did say I would treat you for paying for this trip you know? I’m not a complete asshole.”
Kakuzu narrowed his eyes and looked his partner up and down before he hummed quietly in thought. He looked up at the window showing Jupiter before them; watching the colors shift between red, oranges, yellows and so many warm colors. He had to agree with Hidan that it looked like they were watching paint swirling.
He picked up his lemonade and slipped the straw under his mask to sip as he did not wish to show his scarred face and startle the other cruise goers.
“Kakuzu,” Hidan speaks up now, his voice gentler when Kakuzu let go of his straw from his lips, “I wouldn’t make you pay for a cruise and then foot you the bill on everything else. You know I wouldn’t do that to ya…”
“I would think not considering I’m the one who handles all your taxes and keeps track of both our financials,” the older man relaxed more though as if just having his young partner confirm what he would have made sure he would do anyways brought some peace.
He pretends he doesn’t feel the other’s cool hand gently takes his and gently stroke over his fingers as the ship continues on.
Both of them don’t seem to hear the screaming of some crew employees who happened to open the supply closet.
