Work Text:
Sitting on a balcony, lonely among Avengers
Taking a long drag on a cigarette that can't hurt
Erskine-enhanced lungs but is a reminder that he missed
V-E day, V-J day and so many other days, alone
Existence is all, until through the door he sees James
Rhodes, not James Barnes. But this James is different
He makes his heart race instead of calm, palms sweaty
One day maybe he'll be brave enough to say what he thinks
Done with hiding, but until then he'll look. Old habits hold
Every dishonorable discharge running- but then he hears
You want to grab dinner, Steve? And a wink- he's caught
