Chapter Text
It was a sunny day out. Barely any clouds, a summer that wasn't too hot, and perfect for outdoor activities. Or just hiding inside all day with your loved ones. Much like Mal and Molly. The two had finally gotten married about 2 years ago, after they got their own place and finished college. At the moment, Mal was busy at the kitchen table, scribbling down some lyrics for a song she was writing, with Molly in the living room laying across the couch. The silence wasn't too overwhelming, which is just how the two liked it. Eventually Mal spoke up after struggling for some time.
"Sometimes song writing is way harder than it looks i swear." Molly just chuckled before responding. "Well you are more of a natural at it than I am, thats for sure."
"Yea well you never tried writing words that rhyme and make sense over and over again." Molly eventually got up and walked over to her wife, leaning against her back and resting her head on her shoulder. Mal looked up at her, smiling softly. "If ya keep being all sappy like this, i won't be able to focus," she said. Molly just fidgeted with one of Mal's earrings gently. "I'm just trying to give you ideas," she replied. Mal rolled her eyes playfully at her but didn't push her away. "You're lucky I love you, you know?" The tall blonde just chuckled softly before kissing Mal's cheek, causing the latter to blush. "Tease," she replied. "That's what you get for marrying me," Molly said. Mal couldn't help but smile at her wife, eyes shining. "Well I wouldn't have it any other way," she admitted. "Well that makes two of us then." Mal eventually set aside the lyric sheet and stood up from her spot, turning to face Molly properly. Molly raised an eyebrow. "What are you planning?" She asked teasingly, knowing full well what she was planning. Mal just leaned in and kissed her softly, holding it for a moment before pulling back. "That," she said matter of factly. Molly couldn't help but smile, grey-blue eyes sparkling with affection. "So, wanna binge-watch Sweet Tooth?"
Later in the afternoon, almost evening, the two were sitting in the living room, watching their show. Molly was clinging to Mal like a koala in a way (despite being the taller one), with Mal barely batting an eye about it. "So, what's this season about this time?" Mal asked. She already knew but wanted to hear about it anyway. "They're trying to escape the zoo," she said. "And their friends are trying to help them." Mal frowned slightly, knowing the feeling a little too well. With Molly's mother being an abusive piece of shit and practically hiding Molly away, it was almost ironic in a sense. Thankfully she was able to get Molly out of that household. She spoke up quietly after a moment. "This is nice, you know? No drama, no chaos...just us." Molly hummed slightly. "Yea, me too." The two sat in comfort for a long while, blowing through the season quick. After a while though, Molly's phone suddenly rung. Mal grumbled a bit, sad that the cuddles were ending as Molly picked up her phone, seeing the familiar number pop up on screen. "Oh its April," she replied. April? It's been a while since they heard from her last. "What is she calling for-?" Mal asked confused, but slightly upset about the cuddles. Molly shrugged. "Dunno, I'll talk to her and find out." She then proceeded to step into the hallway to take the call, leaving Mal on the couch, cuddleless. She leaned back against it, arms draped across the back and looking up at the ceiling. She eventually felt fur brushing against her hand, and she instantly knew who it was. "Hey bubs," she replied. The little chitter that came from the raccoon confirmed her suspicions. She gave Bubbles some light head scratches, resulting in the striped animal rubbing against her like a cat. "At least someone loves the attention," she joked. She eventually settled back down with him on her lap, and Molly came back in to the room eventually, looking slightly shaken. Mal instantly perked up. "What's wrong? What happened-?" She asked confused. Molly spoke up, but slightly quiet. "The camp's shutting down." Mal stiffened. The camp for hard-core lady types? There's no way Rosie would let it close down. the lady was practically made of iron. "Why?" Was the only thing she managed to ask. "That's the thing...no one knows why. April just heard about it on the news. She already told the other two." This was definitely not on Mal's Bingo card of the year. "And what did April say-?" Molly just froze for a moment, her gaze averting. "Well...that's the interesting part." OH no. The word 'interesting' always meant trouble for the Roanokes. Molly eventually continued. "She plans on...investigating what's going on, but she said she needs a team." Mal instantly knew what was going on. "After all these years-? That was when we were fourteen, Mols." Molly seemed to stiffen again. "Oh gods...what do you have planned?" Mal was clearly concerned now. Molly eventually replied with one sentence. One that would soon change everything. "Friendship to the max, right?"
