Work Text:

“Come on Bakubro, it’ll be fun!”

“Tch,” Bakugo answers in response to Kirishima’s persistence. “There’s no way in hell I’m doing that,” he replies while carelessly flipping through a random magazine on his bed, earning him a groan from the red-haired boy across his room. “Who’s idea was this anyway?”

“It was Sero’s and he’s really excited about it so it would be pretty manly if you agreed!” Kirishima continued pleading his case. “He already got Kaminari, Mina, and Jiro to agree so you’re the last one we need!”

“I already told you I’m not doing it, shitty hair,” the blonde retorted.

            “Why not?”

            “Because it’s dumb.”

Kirishima drops his head to look at the ground in defeat and sighs. “Well I guess the five of us will have to manage without you,” he starts to walk away. “Maybe Todoroki or Midoriya can join us,” he says while turning out the door.

Bakugo pauses for a second, sighs deeply, and then reluctantly utters, “fine, I’ll do it.”

Kirishima bursts back into the room with a wide grin and fist pumps the air. “Hell yeah! I knew you’d come around Bakubro, you always do.”

“Yeah, yeah, whatever. I better be someone cool though.”

“Well Sero had you down as Iron Man, and he’s got the costume already.”

            “Good enough.”

       —————— Halloween night ————————

“So how does it look?” Kaminari asked.

            “Kinda stupid,” Jiro teased.

“Hey I put a lot of effort into this! I thought Thor would be a smart costume because of my electricity! Yours doesn’t even have anything to do with your quirk!”

Jiro, dressed as The Wasp, stares blankly at Kaminari. “Well why don’t you tell me what Marvel character has a superpower like mine, if you’re so smart.”

Kaminari opens his mouth to speak, but then falls silent.

“Exactly. Plus I didn’t know we were choosing costumes based on our quirks. Isn’t the whole point of wearing a costume to be someone other than yourself?” Jiro says.

“I thought that was what everyone was doing since Sero’s Spider-man, Kirishima’s going as the Hulk, and Bakugo’s supposed to be Iron Man if Kirishima managed to convince him. Their costumes seem pretty close to their actual quirks,” Kaminari pointed out.

“Well Mina being Black Widow doesn’t really have anything to do with her quirk.”

“I heard my name, I’m here!” Mina bursts into Kaminari’s dorm wearing a full Black Widow jumpsuit.

Jiro turns to her, “did you know we were wearing costumes based on our quirks?”

“No, I just really wanted to be Black Widow. She’s such a badass!” Mina grins excitedly.

Jiro turns back to Kaminari, “see? Is my costume acceptable now?”

“W-well I never had a problem with it I actually think it looks really good on you! I mean, you always look good but you can really pull the costume off!” Kaminari stumbles over his words nervously, hoping he said the right thing.

Jiro sighs and rolls her eyes half jokingly. “Where is everyone else?”

Mina looks around confused, “Sero was right behind me, I don’t know what happened- oh my god what did you do this time?”

Spider-Sero slowly shuffles into the room wrapped in his tape while smiling apprehensively. “Hey guys so um… I kinda maybe was trying to swing through the hallway with my tape and uh, got a little stuck.”

Mina facepalms. Kaminari laughs while saying, “and I thought I was supposed to be the stupid one!”

“Hey shut up! Can I get some help here?”

“Didn’t Mr. Aizawa help you out last time? Why don’t you go ask him?” Mina suggests.

Sero scratches the back of neck with his one free hand. “Well, yeah, but it’s humiliating! He kept muttering about how it was ‘too early for this shit’ and that he ‘doesn’t get paid enough to deal with this dumbass child’.”

“Fine, we’ll try to help. What do we do?” Jiro replies.

“Ok you need to find the end of the tape and just walk around me until it unravels. Kinda like a spool of thread, just stickier.”

“You’re lucky Bakugo isn’t here yet, he’d never let you live this down.” Kaminari mentions as he starts looking for the end of the tape.

“Don’t jinx it, he could be coming any second!” Sero hushes. Kaminari finds the end and starts unraveling the cocoon Sero made for himself. “Thanks,” he says when he finally gets out.

            “No problem dude.”

“Now we’re just waiting on the other two,” Sero smiles excitedly.

“Oh no, I know that look. What do you have planned?” Kaminari asks cautiously.

“Whaaaaaaat? Me? No way.” Sero grins mischievously. “Don’t worry about it. It’ll be fun.”

Kaminari eyes him suspiciously and is about to say something when they hear bickering from outside the dorm.

“Can you at least act like you want to do this?”

“Don’t tell me what to do.”

“Just trust me, you’re going to have fun!”

            “Whatever.”

Kirishima walks into the room first with a grin, “hey guys! Wow, all your costumes are looking great! This was an awesome group costume idea, Sero!” Bakugo follows behind him with a scowl.

“Thanks man, you look great too!” Kaminari replies enthusiastically.

“Tch, he’s barely even wearing a costume.” Bakugo turns to Kirishima. “You’re gonna freeze in just those shorts, dumbass.”

“Thanks for the incredibly helpful words Bakugo. Anyway,” Sero clasps his hands together and grins, “now that everyone is here I can reveal my surprise. Since tonight is the scariest night of the year, I’ve booked all of us tickets for a haunted house!”

Excited ‘oohs’ emit from the rest of the group, except Bakugo, who’s staring down Sero as if he just killed his dog. “Seriously? A haunted house?”

“What? Are you scared?” Mina asks teasingly.

“No! I’m not scared! I could do a haunted house better than any of you! I just don’t want to be out so late - I have training tomorrow morning.”

“Aw I forgot wittle Bakugo can’t be out past his bedtime.” Mina says in a baby voice.

“Shut the fuck up, Pinky Pie. You won’t be mocking me when I’m the Number One Hero.”

“Alright, alright, calm down. C’mon Bakubro, it’s Halloween! You can’t stay out late just this once?” Kirishima asks nicely.

“I’m already wearing this stupid costume for Tape-Arms over there, isn’t that enough to keep you extras satisfied?”

“Oh yeah, he’s totally scared.” Jiro says definitively from the corner.

“Shut it Ears, you don’t even know what you’re talking about.”

Jiro makes a face to the rest of the group. Sero steps in by saying, “c’mon Bakugo! It won’t even take that long. You’ll be back here in time to get some sleep. Plus I already bought the tickets for the six of us so unless you want to give up your spot to someone else in the dorms-”

Bakugo groans, “ugh, fine, I’ll do it if it gets you idiots to shut up and leave me alone.”

Mina and Kirishima cheer. Sero brightens, “awesome! Let’s get going then, since it starts in about half an hour.”

                                                ………………………………..

After getting out of Sero’s car the whole Squad walks up to hand in their tickets and wait to go into the haunted house.

“Ooh I’m getting kinda nervous now!” Mina says with a shaky laugh.

“Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!” Kirishima says with a comforting smile. “Just stay by me and I’ll protect you from the jumpscares.” He pretends to shield her.

She laughs, smiling brightly, “aww, thanks Kiri!”

“Yeah and you’re probably not half as scared as Bakugo is.” Jiro jokes.

             “I AM NOT SCARED DUMBASS!!!”

“Jeez calm down bro, you’re gonna get us kicked out,” Kaminari says cautiously.

“Yeah, speaking on that note, make sure you don’t accidentally use your Quirk on any of the scarers, Bakugo.” Sero mentions.

“Why the fuck would I do that?”

“Accidentally. You know, like a gut reaction to being jumpscared?”

“For the last time, Scotch Tape, I AM NOT SCARED.”

“Well can you at least stop yelling?”

Bakugo huffs. A staff member comes over to tell them that they will be able to enter in one minute.

“Who’s ready?” Sero looks at them excitedly, and most of them (*cough* Bakugo *cough*) smile back.

The door is slowly opened for them, and they walk into the haunted house.

“Uh, this is a lot darker than I thought it was gonna be,” Kaminari says with a nervous chuckle while hiding behind Jiro, who rolls her eyes.

Bakugo pushes his way to the front. “I’ll show all of you extras exactly how stupid this whole thing is. You guys are just dramatic, none of this stuff is actually sca-”

“RAHHHHHHHH!!!” Some monster guy with a bloody face and weapon jumps out from the side and yells at them. Mina and Kaminari scream in unison. Bakugo freezes.

Sero coughs, “you were saying, Bakugo?”

Bakugo practically growls through gritted teeth at Sero before stomping forward on the path through the house.

As the group continued walking, the house got progressively darker and scarier. Kirishima could sense Mina’s unease and squeezed her hand to give her some assurance. In a similar fashion, Jiro could feel Kaminari trembling behind her but continuously decided to turn around and jumpscare him herself. No matter how many times she did, he kept falling for it and almost fell over at one point. Even though he was shaking in fear, he counted it as a win to see Jiro laugh as hard as she did.

Bakugo continued his tough-guy facade by walking in front of the group and sometimes yelling back at the jumpscarers to “show these extras who they’re messing with,” which made Sero chuckle from the back of the group. Although he dropped his laughing after Bakugo started threatening to use his Quirk. It was unclear whether he meant on the jumpscarers or Sero.

Finally, they started to see the end of the haunted house and everyone exhaled a sigh of relief for getting through it.

“Oh thank god we’re done,” Kaminari says gratefully. “I thought we’d never get out of there.”

“Of course you’d think that,” Jiro teases as she flicks him lightly on the forehead.

“We did it!” Mina exclaimed as they walk out the door, holding Kirishima’s hand up in pride.

“Hell yeah we did!” Kirishima replied with just as much enthusiasm, pulling her in for a celebratory hug. “Great job everybody! Bakubro you really showed those actors who’s boss!”

Bakugo scoffs. “Tch. It wasn’t a big deal. Why don’t you choose something actually scary next time Ser- AHHHHHH!!!”

One final scarer had been placed outside of the haunted house for a last minute unexpected scare and jumped out from the side. Bakugo shrieked

As the scarer walked away, the whole group stood in a shocked silence, afraid to say anything about the past few seconds. Bakugo stiffly turns around to look at all of them and speaks in a menacingly low voice. “If any of you ever tell anyone about this I’ll make sure you never talk again, got that?”

The group nods silently, trying to hold in their laughter. Bakugo stares each of them down individually, as if testing them to dare to break the silence. Sero breaks first by laughing hysterically, and a few seconds later the rest of the group joins in.

“Laugh as much as you want, as if you all weren’t practically pissing yourselves in there. I’m the only one who made it the whole way through.”

“Oh shut up Bakugo you looked like you were preparing to be attacked the whole night.” Jiro says while covering her laughter behind her hand.

“Yeah I think you screamed at a higher pitch than Mina!” Sero manages to get out between fits of laughter.

The blonde looks like he’s ready to burn the entire haunted house down, so the group decides to lay off of him until he cools off. That is, until Kaminari remarked that he looked like a cartoon character with smoke coming out of their ears and then ducked before Bakugo could hit him.

After getting back into the car to return to the dorms Kirishima turns to Bakugo with an encouraging smile, “it’s ok bro! You were so manly in there! I’m proud of you.”

“I just want to get this stupid costume off and go to bed.”

“You sure you’ll be able to sleep in your own bed tonight, Bakugo? Do we need to get a nightlight for you? We wouldn’t want you to get scared,” Sero jokes.

             “SHUT UP ALREADY BASTARD!!!”

“Fine, fine, be that way,” Sero replies calmly. The members of the group who weren’t completely fuming continue talking about the night all throughout the car ride home.

When they arrive, it’s around ten o’clock and everyone steps out of the car yawning.

“Thanks for dressing up and going to the haunted house with me guys, I really appreciate it and had a lot of fun,” Sero tells everyone.

“Awww of course! We all had fun too!” Mina says happily as she gives him a hug. “We should do it again next Halloween!”

“I’m down!” Kirishima yells excitedly as he joins the hug.

“Me too!” Kaminari joins the three others.

“Well I guess Denki’s gonna need someone to hide behind again,” Jiro teases lightly as she awkwardly shuffles towards the group assembling before being pulled in by them and laughing.

All of them turn towards Bakugo, who’s standing with his arms crossed and has a scowl plastered across his face. “Hmph,” and after a few more seconds, “well I guess it wasn’t a completely shitty experience.”

“Awww come here Bakubro!” Kirishima drags him into the group hug. “I told you it would be fun!”

Bakugo groans at the sudden force of physical affection from everyone but is too tired to fight it at this point. “Don’t get the wrong idea idiots, I still think these costumes suck ass.”

“And yet you still wore yours, what a true friend,” Sero calls out slightly sarcastically, but with a warm smile on his face.

The whole group laughs, happy to be all together and sharing a normal teenage moment, even if it was just for a moment. It was peaceful.

They stayed like that for a while.
