My Ballad Cries in Dissonant Dreams

Summary:

Izuku Midoriya was born in an era untouched by quirks.

However, as Izuku enters his 3rd year of middle school, things changed. That year, a baby was born, but not just any baby; it was glowing.

Some months later, this mysterious person appeared on the news. He didn’t watch the news, but his parents did, and he had heard them talking about it. Few things were known about the man, and even less was known about him by the public.

The only thing Izuku knew was that the man wasn’t good. People have taken to calling him All For One. Why? Hell if Izuku knew.

All he knew was that his life had just been flipped. Izukus' day-to-day life went from a peaceful walk to school, boring 8 hours, and a pleasant walk back home, to walking to school in fear, and worrying for 8 hours if his parents would be okay.

…Izuku was just working on his schoolwork… So why did everything go dark?

Chapter 1: Warnings

Chapter Text

Before this story starts, I want to go over some information that might be needed. The reason is that I would like to avoid having to type out long paragraphs of information before certain paragraphs.

For the people who don’t usually read the tags or notes at the beginning of chapters, there will likely be stuff in this book that you aren’t/may not be comfortable with. I say this because I know some people are sensitive to certain subjects, so to sum it up, most of the warnings that will be mentioned throughout this story are

⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️

  • Abusive relationships (parent & child type relations)
  • Mentioned blood
  • Fights (physically and mentally)
  • Character death
  • Beatings
  • Locked up
  • Torture

⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️

  • If anything was missed, or is added later on, I will try to mention it at the start of the chapter as well as add it to this chapter.
  • At the start of each chapter, there will be a small reminder that there could be something possibly triggering to some people.
  • If I ever have anything to say or add, I will add it to the notes at the start of the chapter. I will not post a new chapter every time I have an announcement unless it is something related to the update schedule.
  • Chapters will be coming out randomly. There is no guaranteed schedule, mainly because I will be posting around my school schedule. Chapters are most likely to come out when I am on a break, or if I have enough free time to write them out, then they will probably be posted after school has let out.
  • I know different authors do different things, so I am letting y'all know that I will be using Military time in this book, mainly because I like military time more, but also because I'm like 98% sure that's what Japan uses to show their time.

Chapter 2: Prologue

Notes:

Remember to check out the first chapter for any and all possible tiggers/warnings

Chapter Text

It was a peaceful day in Musutafu, all things considered. Izuku was walking home from school on this sunny June day. School had just let out, and he even ran to the convenience store to grab his mom some ingredients for dinner tonight! Although that peace didn’t last long.

When Izuku got home, he went and set the grocery bags in the kitchen and sat down in the living room to do his schoolwork. Izuku had done this hundreds of times: get home, do school work, go on a quick walk or run, wash up, and sit down for dinner with his mom and dad. Today, however, things were different… Izuku sat down to do his schoolwork and saw that his dad had left the news broadcast on before heading into work, while reaching for the remote, something caught his attention.

“–Newborn just came out glowing–” Everything around him stilled, glowing? How could a baby be glowing? Surely they had to mean figuratively? How else could a baby be–

Then he saw it. A baby. A glowing baby. A bright white light literally radiates off the newborn's soft skin. How is that even possible? Why? Why is this just now appearing? Why is it happening?

He had apparently been sitting there longer than he thought, because he didn’t realize what was happening till he felt a hand placed on his shoulder.

“–zu? Izuku? Baby, are you alright?” His mom? When had his mom gotten home?

“Huh? U-uh yeah, I’m fine… how long ago did you get home?” He turned to look at the clock in the corner of the room, 18:37… He had been spaced out for an hour?!

“Oh! Honey, did you see the news?” His mom turned to look at the TV, seeing that it was already on. “Isn’t it amazing? I mean, I don’t know how it's possible, but it's got to be a miracle! I hear that they are thinking of calling this baby a ‘Meta-Human’. Probably because of the unnatural powers…” Izuku just nodded along with his mom. Sure, it was great, but was this just a one-off thing, or was this going to become the world's new normal?

“Y-yeah… it's… great?” But was it? “I’m uh… I'm gonna go wash up ma… I’ll see you in a bit.” Izuku saw her nod to him, so he packed up his schoolwork and started heading upstairs.

Once Izuku got upstairs and to his washroom, he started the shower and looked at himself in the mirror. “How is this even possible… I mean, come on, A GLOWING BABY!!?” Izuku couldn’t tell if he was mad that some random newborn had a cool ‘superpower’ or if his ‘small mind’ wasn’t able to wrap around the idea that this could happen. But there wasn’t anything he could do about it, so he might as well just get over it…

The rest of Izuku's evening went as it usually did; he got out of the shower, got dressed, and went downstairs for dinner. That was the normal part anyway, that changed slightly because once again his mom brought up the glowing baby, apparently his dad had already heard all about it through work gossip. But again, he had decided to ignore it, sure it was cool, but it’s not like he was the one with the power; it's also not like he could change the fact that it happened.

The next day, Izuku woke up at his normal time and started getting ready for school. He brushed his teeth, got dressed, tried to tame his hair, and went downstairs to grab breakfast from his mom and head out.

It was just another normal day… Right?

.

 .

  .

   .

    .

Wrong…

As soon as Izuku got into class, it was pure chaos. Students were yelling about the glowing baby, talking about how they wished it had been them to get such amazing powers. Yeah, being able to be a human glowstick was cool, until you almost blind someone in a dark room, sure you'll be able to walk home at night without worry, but what about if you're trying to hide or something? So, while yes, the power was cool, Izuku didn’t really think he would want that power.

When the teacher got into class, five minutes late as usual, he didn’t think anything of it. Well, that was until his teacher started a lesson about the glowing baby and what he thinks will happen because of it.

90 minutes… An hour and a half was dedicated to talking about the glowing baby. Why were people making such a huge deal about it? Hopefully, it would blow over and people would calm down… Hopefully…

But still, he focused on doing any schoolwork he could, trying his best to tune out this conversation until…

“Midoriya? What do you think about this phenomenon?” Izuku looked up from his desk and up to his teacher.

“H-huh?” He panicked, “It... um, it’s cool? I guess…” He whispered the last part as if his life depended on a good answer. Well, it did, didn't it? Everyone thought this glowing baby was some amazing, superior being. It’s a baby for crying out loud! His teacher looked at him strangely before turning and talking to the class again. That exact moment is when Izuku decided that he didn’t really like school right now, constant glowing baby talk, and no actual learning… You know the main reason they were at school to begin with. He wanted school to be over and wished he could go back in time to a couple of days ago and somehow stop the baby from being born glowing.

Don’t get him wrong, Izuku isn’t mad that the baby was born. He was mad that it was born glowing, and now no one will shut up about it.

When school let out, Izuku slowly started packing up his things, anxiously waiting to get home, finish his schoolwork, and relax for the rest of the evening. Hopefully, nothing would screw up that plan.

     .

      .

       .

        .

         .

          .

           .

Of course, something had screwed up his plan!

As soon as Izuku got home, he heard the TV, which meant his dad had left it on again. It wasn’t bad that his dad had left the TV on, just slightly annoying since he still had to study, but there was a very easy fix. Turn it off. But of course, with the way the last couple of days have gone, something happened…

Another one…

Another baby was born, but this one had tiny horns. Two very prominent dark horns.

But again, he turned the TV off and did his school work. The first one had been shocking, and this one was too, but they were born only a day and a half apart. Maybe this really was becoming the world's new normal.

~~~~~~~~~~~A MONTH LATER~~~~~~~~~~
It had only been a month.. And yet there were now around 996 meta-human babies. And likely more to come. The world had changed a lot over the last month, including the reveal of an ADULT meta-human, which means these abilities have been around much longer than originally assumed. However, despite the world being very open and accepting of these new abilities, this man was not. Although he had powers, he made it very clear that he thought other people didn’t deserve these powers.
At first, people had assumed he was either lying about being a meta-human, or was simply just trying to scare people… until the ‘accident’. This man had approached one of the meta babies and placed his hand on the baby's head. Luckily, people were filming, mainly because it was weird that this man was approaching one of the babies after claiming to be a meta-human.
Then they saw it.
The light
A bright, white light.
The light was coming from the man's hand and connected with the baby's head. Then a light blue started mixing with the white, blue moving towards the man and white moving towards the baby.
The baby had spikes that went down her spine and a small stump of a tail at the base of her tailbone.
That man had suddenly grown large, grotesque spikes down his spine, and a gangly tail grew from his bone.
The world collectively held its breath as they realized that his man had taken the babies' meta-human power.
After that day, news channels, blogs, YouTube channels, and podcasts, everyone had taken to calling him All For One.
After that incident, Izuku had heard that scientists were noticing that meta-human abilities were randomly appearing in adults. This had shocked the world even more. Especially because All For One had taken the powers of five other people. Not just a baby this time, no. Three adults and two babies had lost their powers, no, not lost… been robbed of.
Izuku may not have loved the appearance of these abilities, but from what one of the victims had said on the news, it hurt to lose a piece of you, even if it wasn't originally there.
So it wasn’t right. All For One didn’t deserve to take these powers from people, even if he thought they ‘didn’t deserve them.’
But it’s not like Izuku could do anything. So instead, he started doing what the rest of Japan was currently doing. Fearing that they would be the next ones hurt. Even if you don’t have a power, that doesn’t make All For One unable to hurt you. In fact, he had done it last week. All For One had attacked a mall.
So instead of walking to school peacefully and enjoying the scenery, he walked warily as if waiting for someone to strike him across the face. Instead of sitting in school all day and doing his schoolwork while absently wondering what his mom might make for dinner, he sat in school, hoping that his mom and dad would be okay. Instead of walking home in peace and doing his schoolwork, he walked cautiously and hastily turned off the TV and rushed through his schoolwork so that he would be able to tell when his parents got home.
So here he was, sitting in class, worrying about his mom and dad and hoping that his family would make it back home safely.
Izuku was just working on a little bit of math work when the TV turned on. Some students turned to look at the teacher because Mr. Tachibana didn’t usually turn on the TV.
But when Izuku saw the screen, he knew something was wrong. Not because it was the news channel. Not because it was an urgent report. But because All For One was on the screen. Floating in front of Aldera, in front of his middle school.
The only thing Izuku saw was All For One shooting up into the sky while the camera followed him. He was a small dot in the sky… a dot that was slowly getting closer and closer to the camera. A fast black flash. And everything went black.
He felt like he was floating.
Was it water? Or was he flying?
Maybe he had died?
How else would he be floating? That had to be the only explanation, right? He felt a slight, distant, stinging pain. But he was able to easily ignore it.
He could move. Not stand. No. He hasn’t been able to stand for a while now. But he could roll over and turn his head. He didn’t know what he was floating on, but the sky looked like a pool of stars and light.
For a while now, there has been a noise(?) in the background. No, not a noise… a voice. It was static and unintelligible, but it was there.
For a while now, he had been slowly moving towards the voice. He wanted to find out who it was.
  Maybe it was his mom… maybe his dad?
He was close now… so, so close.
Almost close enough to touch…
Notes:
I know it was a little fast paced and a little all over the place but it is the prologue so let that be the reason for that…?
Thank you so much for reading, I hope you enjoyed it, I don't know when the next chapter will be out but I will try not to keep everyone waiting so long.
I wanna thank my two beta readers PeachGingerine and THE_BANG_MASTER for reading over this and making sure it was actually comprehensible
Also please remember that it has been a while since I have just written creativly instead of in an essay format so please understand that it may sound slightly stiff for a couple of chapters until I have relaxed into creative writing again. Thank you!!! ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡
I do not associate with some of the works on PeachGingerine’s account……….
Chapter Text
It’s cold
So cold
Where am I?
Am I still me?
Why is it so cold?
I turn around, looking through the abyss, trying to find the voice. Who had been talking? Why were they calling for me?
I want to go home.
Where’s ma?
Where’s dad?
Where is home?
As Izuku looked around the black space, he realized he could walk now. Before, it was just slight movements of the head or fingers, trying desperately to move, and at some point, he had moved. Quite far, apparently, because where there had once been stars above him was now a blank sky.
Izuku didn’t know he could now walk until he realized he already was. Blankly moving for hours. Days? How long had it been? He didn’t know where he was or why he was here, but this ‘abyss’ apparently isn’t one? Because he had just walked into a dark, wet wall.
He hadn’t realized until now, but when he walked, it almost sounded like he was walking in a giant puddle. He also couldn’t talk…. Great.
Izuku continued to walk along the wall for what felt like hours, but only a couple of minutes had passed. But he was as exhausted as someone would be after running a marathon. He hadn’t moved in what felt like months, so why was he already so worn out?
He needed to keep walking.
He had to find a way out, or something!
He wanted to get home…
He wanted his parents…
.
  .
    .
      .
He wanted his life back…
A tall figure who was standing in the corner of a small lab turned to a shorter man sitting at a desk, “Is he ready?”
“Soon. For now, I need to finish the containment unit.”
A long sigh escaped the man’s lips, “And how long will that take, another decade, two?”
“I know you’re annoyed, sir; however, once this project is completed, I assure you it won’t fail you.” The short man slowly started chuckling.
“And how are you so sure, Doctor?”
“Just have faith, that’s all I ask of you this once.”
The man stood quietly for a second, debating whether he should trust the doctor on this or not. It didn’t take long to decide, though. “Fine. Just make it quick. I’m sick of waiting.” The figure turned to walk out the door before pausing to talk again, “Oh, and if this fails, rest assured, you won’t get to have another project afterwards.”
A nervous chuckle left the short doctor as he slowly turned back to his desk. “Of course, Sir. I promise I won’t fail.”
It was cold.
So very cold.
He wondered if it would ever stop being cold.
There were times when he thought he saw a slight beam of light shining from somewhere, but where? The whole place was some black prison, only keeping him here for some reason.
Every time he had tried to slam himself or his fists into the black walls, only he got in return was an echo caused by the impact.
This place was making him lose it. He didn’t know where he was or how he ended up here. But the only thing was that there wasn’t any way out. He didn’t want to be trapped here forever; he wanted to go home, see his family, and go back to school. Izuku just wanted to live his life as normally as he could, but would he even be able to now?
Izuku knew that this place wasn’t normal. Every time he thought he had somewhat figured his way around the relatively small ‘cube’ as he had started referring to it, well, in his mind at least, he got dizzy, passed out, and woke up in a completely different area of a seemingly empty abyss.
But he was determined to find a way out. There were so many things he wanted to get back to. He wanted to see his mom and dad again, go to high school—maybe even college—find someone that he loved and who loved him, maybe even have kids.
Would he even be able to do that anymore?
Would he be able to do anything anymore?
For all he knew, he’s been dead this whole time.
Was he really dead?
Would he never see his parents again?
Even if he couldn’t, should he still keep trying?
His parents have always told him to keep trying, never give up.
But they aren’t here…
So what’s the point?
Was there even a point to figuring this whole thing out anymore?
There wasn’t much point in continuing to walk around, so Izuku had opted to lay on the cold, lightly damp ground. It wasn’t the most comfortable, but it was better than cold concrete. He had experienced that several times, definitely better.
Although, what Izuku definitely wasn’t expecting was a soft noise to start buzzing in the distance.
It sounded far away, but felt so right?
As if the noise was coming from within him?
Was he making the noise?
Izuku got up off the ground and looked for the noise. It can’t be coming from him; he wasn’t able to speak earlier, so why would he be able to now?
As he looked around, he saw a faint green light.
And it was pulsing?
Why was it moving with the noise?
Was the noise coming from there?
Well, now he wanted to know.
His parents had always called him curious by nature.
Might as well live up to the accusation.
Izuku took a deep breath before moving in that direction.
Truth be told, he hadn't fully thought this plan through all that well. Destroying a school, while an act of aggression, was still a very random target. Or so people thought. In all honesty, he had every intention of destroying that school and taking a captive. What he didn’t expect was for the young man he had chosen to collapse when the room caved in.
All he wanted was to capture the boy, but once he saw him, a greater plan had come to mind.
A plan that would hopefully draw thousands of people to his side.
This boy, Midoriya Izuku, was very interesting indeed.
The boy's father had been one of his associates, but the man had fallen behind on his debt payments. So he had to do something to remind Mr. Midoriya of the power he held against him. So instead of going after Mr. Midoriya himself, he went after his son. His only son at that.
The man had no other family, so why not take one of the few people he cherished? Of course, though, along the way, the whole family had died.
But Midoriya Izuku was different.
He had died. In a sense. Had a brain bleed. But his heart, instead of stopping after an extended period, his heart kept beating, even after hours of bleeding out and being hooked up to a few cords. The boy's brain showed no activity, but his heart kept beating. The boy wasn’t even breathing, but he was technically still alive.
Alive… but dead.
Interesting indeed.
So, instead of using young Midoriya Izuku as a captive, he used him for an experiment.
At first, it was to see how long the boy would stay alive while unconnected from the wires. The conclusion, an indefinite amount of time, he was only willing to let the test last about two weeks before it bored him.
However, after that test, he had decided that maybe the boy would be a useful asset to him. After all, if he found someone, someone crazy enough to listen to his idea, maybe this idea would come to fruition.
The hard part wasn’t finding someone to listen to his idea; no, he had found plenty of people. The hard part was trying to find someone willing to actually follow through with this scheme. Someone crazy enough to experiment on a fourteen-year-old boy, someone who would turn this boy into something amazing.
The plan was, technically, simple… sort of. All he needed was a good doctor, the boy, a small lab away from his main one, and a decade or two for it all to come together.
Well, now, he had the doctor, he had the boy, he had found—taken—another lab, and nearly two and a half decades had passed. The plan was almost done, according to the doctor, he would only have to wait another month or so.
He had waited so long for this plan to come together that he was now considered a villain and had a villain organization behind him that he had created. He also had gained a “son” along the way, whether he wanted the boy or not.
He helped the young man by giving him some food, and for some reason, the boy had yet to leave. That was about fifteen years ago. The boy had told him his name was Tenko Shimura… he had been quick to change that. There was some… bad blood between him and the Shimura name.
And too much conflict that he would like to not dive right back into.
This was not good.
Not good
Not good
So very not good!
He had royally screwed up!
He had promised All For One that the boy and the experiment would be finished in just over a month. Which was true. However, he had no way of waking the boy up!
He had managed to transfer the boy's consciousness, or was it his soul? Either way, that was now in an artificial body, a metal tomb if you will. But there was no way to safely wake the boy up. It was a long shot that the kid would even remember his own name, and if he didn’t, it might just work in his favor.
After all, what good is a puppet if it remembers it had strings?
The only thing he had to do was wake the boy up. All For One would take care of the rest afterwards. Maybe he should turn up the voltage on the defibrillator? That might work… maybe. The worst it would do is slightly dent the boy's body. So he might as well try it.
As Garaki walked across the room, the only things making any noise were his shoes, the light swish of his jacket, and his small box fan sitting in the far corner. Well, until he heard a small rustling of fabric, but that had to have been his imagination, because he was the only one in the lab. Well, other than the half-dead boy.
As he messed with the defibrillator, he heard the noise again. Maybe it’s a mouse? It wouldn’t be shocking if it were a mouse; it’s not like this lab was the cleanest. If the young master ever came in here, he would surely throw a fit. Either way, Garaki continued to mess with the difeibrillator, trying to untangle wires and up the voltage. When he heard the pesky mouse again!? He whipped around only to be filled with a tsunami of emotions.
Nausea
Guilt
Excitement
Dread
And… glee.
The boy.
His masterful creation.
The creation he had spent nearly 30 years working on.
The boy was up.
He was sitting up.
And he was looking straight at Garaki.
Notes:
HIIII!!! I hope you enjoyed this chapter even though it took so long to come out, nearly a month... sorry about that, btw.
Anyway, the reason this chapter took was long was because I went out of town a few weekends ago, and then about a week or two ago, I went to NYC to celebrate my sister getting a scholarship award! And last week on Tuesday, technically on Monday, I got back into my town and got back into school on Tuesday, and was immediately swamped with school work. It took me a couple of days to get caught up on missing work, and since then, I haven't been able to catch a break. I really did try to work on this chapter little by little, but every time I would even get close to being done with school work, I would have more.
For example, I just finished one of my last projects (still have one more for this specific class) and it was an essay, only 1000 words, not alot, but when I am assigned a topic i don't really care for and I am tasked with a high goal I stress over it and worry myself to the point where it takes me forever. But at the same time I also have another essay for one of my other (harder) classes, that is also set for at least 1000 words, but on top of that my first block teacher told us she is giving a project right before finals, and is my last project, in the first class i mentioned, is due on the day of finals.
But I digress. I hope ya'll were able to enjoy the chapter despite it being short. I really do hope that later on down the line I'm able to make these chapters longer. I am loving how this is going already. And once again, I wanna thank my Betas, PeachGingerine and THE_BANG_MASTER, for reading at least the first half of this chapter.
I hope ya'll have an amazing morning, afternoon, or night, and thanks again for reading!!!
Please don't judge the name I chose for him to have, but if you do have a better suggestion by all means let me know, also just so ya'll know, his stage name will be MIKU, but when he is being talked to he willed be called Izuku or some other name, so the name MIKU will only appear as a stage name or some sort.
Also I was thinking of possibly making a discord, I have already started making it but I still need to work on it! Let me know what ya’ll think, and what I should do, cause I’m trying to make it but it could take a tiny minute….
