Work Text:
Luke rubbed his eyes, pulling himself out of bed. He could smell something burning, and the lack of his boyfriend in bed with him had him worried Dino might be cooking something. Luke loved Dino, but Dino was a horrible cook, honestly Luke should probably put a rule in place that made it so Dino wasn't allowed to cook.
Luke shoved his blankets off, and wandered his way to their kitchen, where Dino was in fact cooking, well cooking was a bit of a stretch, more like where Dino was burning things. “What are you doing?” Luke asked, fanning the air slightly to try to relive the smell of smoke.
“I was trying to make pancakes but it didn’t exactly work.” Dino said with a huff, “I wanted to surprise you.” he followed up, sounding a little bit like a kicked puppy.
“Baby I love you, but we both know you're miserable in the kitchen.” Luke approached, leaning on Dino’s shoulder as he looked down to see what Dino had made, and made a face. It looked a little bit like a piece of coal. Luke poked, and frowned. “I have no idea what this is.” he said, poking it again.
“Pancakes.” Dino said, indignantly.
“These are not pancakes.” Luke said.
“Well they were breakfast, so now what do you want to do? I still want to do something special for breakfast.” Dino said, crossing his arms and glaring at Luke.
“Let's walk to that bakery a few blocks down.” Luke said, extracting himself from Dino’s grasp, going to get dressed. Dino followed him like a lost puppy, plopping down on their bed. “Have you showered yet?” Luke asked, pulling clothing out of the drawers.
“No, can you get some clothing for me too.” Dino asked, lounging on the bed, watching Luke. Luke nodded, grabbing a t-shirt and jeans for his boyfriend.
“Come on, let's take a shower.” Luke said, pulling Dino up off the bed, and into the bathroom. Turning on the shower.
The warm water was relaxing on his back, and Dino’s presence against him was gentle and relaxing. He leaned into his boyfriend, and Dino washed his back, kissing his neck lightly. They lazily completed their morning routine. Getting dressed, brushing their teeth, and doing their skin and hair care. Both boys dancing gently around each other.
“Dino!” Luke called from the doorway, back to his boyfriend who was still putting on his shoes. It took Dino a few more minutes before he came running up to Luke, grabbing his hand, and pulling him out the door. “Dino you were the one taking so much time, and now you're the one rushing us out of the door.” laughed Luke, letting Dino pull him out.
It was a nice day out. There was a small breeze, and the air was clear, it was the perfect day to go for a walk. Dino had his hand still wrapped around Luke’s as they walked down the streets heading towards the bakery. The soft call of birds and rustle of the wind through the leaves followed them as they walked. Luke watched his boyfriend excitedly lead them towards the small bakery, they had had many a morning at. In fact they had gone there so many times the person who owned the bakery knew them and the younger girl who worked mornings had become one of their good friends.
As per usual they could smell the bakery, around half a block before they arrived, it smelled like freshly baked treats, vanilla, cinnamon, and of course that hint of rose. The morning baker, Bianca loved the smell of rose, and the taste, she always had a rose lemonade with her.
“Buongiorno.” Dino called in, and Bianca popped her head up from where she had been fusing with a coffee.
“Buongiorno, Dino!” she waved. “The usual?" She asked switching to English, mostly for Luke, actually all for Luke, while his Italian was getting better he was still far from fluent, whereas Dino, who had been living in Italy for a while now, was.
“Yes please.” Dino said, approaching the counter, and handing her his credit card.
“I watched the most recent race, a one, two, for the spirit, and third for Dino in the race, buon lavoro.” She said, mixing up Dino’s coffee, after she had pulled out their pastries.
“Grazie Bianca.” Dino said, accepting their pastries. “How has school been for you?” he asked, handing Luke his food, and taking a bite of his own.
“Oh you know, school. It’s been fine, new, but fine. University is definitely a wild ride.” She smiled and handed them their coffees. “Gustare!” she said with a wave, before returning to what Luke now realized had not been fusing with coffee, but in fact fussing with homework. They waved back to her, before going to sit at their favorite of the small white wire tables outside. It gave them a beautiful view of the city, and all the bustling people moving past them.
“I love every time we do this.” Said Dino, leaning back in his chair, a small smile on his face. He looked so beautiful, relaxed, the wind blowing gently through his hair as he looked out across the city. “It’s so… domestic,” he laughed, and Luke stared.
“Ya, I love it too, even when we do it because you almost burned down our apartment trying to make pancakes.” Luke joked, and Dino swatted at his arm.
“Chivalry is dead.” Dino said with a serious face.
“Right, because somehow me telling you that you can’t make me pancakes because I know that you will burn the apartment down with them, makes chivalry dead.” Luke said, rolling his eyes.
“Very much so.” Said Dino, reaching over to steal a bite of Luke’s pastry. Luke tried to bat his hand away, but Dino was too quick, and he successfully snatched the maritozzo from Luke's plate, taking a big bite.
“You have your own you know.” Luke said, frowning.
“Ya but your tastes better.” Dino said, licking his fingers.
“Just get the maritozzo next time.” Luke said, snatching his food back.
“But it tastes better from your plate.” Dino said, pouting at Luke, blinking his eyes in an exaggeratedly "innocent" way. Luke rolled his back at Dino.
“Alright then.” Luke said, reaching over to snatch Dino’s pasticciotto leccese, he took a bite grinning at Dino, who frowned back at him. “You know what, you're right it is better.” Luke said his grin widening, Dino stuck his tongue out at him, snatching the pasticciotto leccese back.
“You suck.” Dino said, taking a bite out of his own pastry.
“Whatever you say baby.” Luke said, leaning over and capturing Dino’s lips in a kiss, the sun glowing around his boyfriend like a halo, framing him like an angel.
