Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Chapter Text

Sam

He and Colby were currently packing for their new video which was being filmed in a rural area of Vermont. They were doing another haunted hotel video, and it was beautiful in New England around fall, so they’d had ulterior motives in choosing the location. Coming along with them for this video would be their friends Celina and Kris, one of their most popular collabs.

“Hey Colby, where did we put the flashlights?” Sam yelled over his shoulder to his best friend.

A muffled reply came from the next room over. “Check the editing room. I put a lot in there and forgot about it.”

Sam pushed away from his suitcase, making his way to the location pointed out.

They finished packing all the usuals, their equipment, spare clothes, and a first aid kit. Sam had an uneasy feeling he couldn't place, but he chalked it up to the familiar nerves that came before a haunted video.

Colby seemed to be off too, but his best friend was always more cautious than him, and maybe Colby also feeling nervous meant they'd get a good video.

Colby

Colby couldn't shake that something was up. He knew he was more sensitive to spirits, not like an actual medium, but slightly more empathic than your average person, but whatever this was was strong, stronger than it should feel, given he wasn't that in tune with the spiritual world. It was like every single spirit was all getting ready for something, or warning of something, or was just restless. It was like a power wave hitting him, and if he felt that, then he had no idea how mediums felt right now.

He was able to get past it easily, though he could tell Sam knew something was up, but Sam also seemed more fidgety than usual, and if his best friend was sensing it, it must be something.

The brunette zipped up his bag, letting out a large breath. He'd ask Celina and Kris about it when they arrived. For now, he tried to ignore it.

Kris

Something was going on. The world felt like it was holding its breath, like the air was charged. She was having her husband, Caleb, drive her to the haunted location because she just couldn't focus with this, whatever, happening. She was massaging her forehead, trying to block it out, hoping it was just a migraine and not about whatever would happen at the hotel.

Caleb kept glancing at her looking concerned, but she said she was fine, not wanting to worry him.

Kris looked out the window, watching the fall colors pass by, focusing on anything but the pounding in her head that felt like it was coming from all directions.

She would ask Celina about it when she saw her, as Celina most likely knew more, being the most empathetic of their little group.

Hopefully it wasn't anything but her mind playing tricks on her.

Celina

Celina was the first to arrive at the chosen hotel, and she paced around the room she, Kris, Caleb, and Adam would be sharing. The spirits were restless, and not just the ones in the hotel. Every spirit was. Even back at Celina's home, the ghosts around the house seemed nervous? Scared? Excited? She couldn't tell, but it was very prevalent. She could feel the power in the air and it was… something.

She heard a key in the door and she stopped pacing, rushing over as a troubled looking Kris and worried Caleb entered.

For a few minutes Celina worried they would ignore it, unpacking and talking small talk, but as soon as their husbands left to check out the food downstairs, the air changed.

Kris laid back on her bed, letting out a breath. “Celina what is going on?”

Celina sat down next to her. “I don't know but something is up. Even the spirits back at my house…”

Kris nodded. “Everywhere. The whole way here it wouldn't stop.”

Celina nodded. “I'd be interested to see if the boys can tell something is up.” They agreed, both simultaneously getting a text from their group chat with Sam and Colby.

Sam: were abt 20 mins out

Kris typed an answer back quickly to let them know where they'd be, and they headed down to find their husbands.

Colby

He and Sam pulled up to the hotel, and the waves of whatever it was hadn't stopped. They had a few texts from the girls which they checked quickly.

Kris: me and celina are heading to the restaurants downstairs

Kris: when you get here well probably be there

They grabbed their things, checking in before heading to the restaurant they were told by the girls. Colby spotted them quickly, in a corner booth, and he waved Sam over.

He slid in, ending up next to Adam. The others already had food, but he and Sam ordered a few fries as they'd had McDonald's on the way here. Kris kept rubbing her forehead, and Celina kept fidgeting and he made a mental note to ask them about it afterwards. Adam and Caleb also seemed to have noticed, as they were looking a little concerned for their wives.

“How was your drive?” Celina asked, stirring her drink with a straw.

Sam passed some fries to Colby. “Pretty good. And you?”

“It was okay. The colors are really pretty here in fall.”

Kris nodded. “I'd love to go on a hike after the video.”

Colby agreed, the trees were really beautiful. “Definitely.”

Sam

After everyone ate, they all headed into Sam and Colby's room, the most haunted, to discuss the video, and probably what seemed to be troubling everyone.

Sam was the last one in, so he pulled the door closed behind him. He made his way to the couches and chairs, picking a spot next to Colby. He was about to ask where Celina was, noticing her absence, but Colby made a shushing motion, pointing to where Celina was on a call in the corner.

They could hear scattered words from Celina, but Sam didn't feel the need to put it together.

When Celina returned, she took a deep breath. “It was Amanda. She's feeling the same thing we are, and she's having weird dreams like me.”

Sam blinked. Everyone was nodding, but he was confused.

“What? Who is feeling what? What's going on?”

Everyone was quiet for a second, looking like they were thinking of how to explain it.

Kris eventually spoke up. “All of us have been feeling a little weird lately, like something is up with the spirits. Even Colby was able to tell, and Caleb felt something off as well, and he doesn't even believe!”

Sam puffed out a breath, leaning back onto the couch. “I felt a little something too, but I thought it was nerves to be honest.”

Colby nodded. “I don't know what it could be though.”

Sam's head snapped to him and Colby's equipment backpack, hearing a familiar sound. “I guess we'll have to find out.”
