The day started off as normal. Or, as normal as it could be.
Recently Haruka had noticed something odd about her dear friend Minori. Whenever she dropped something, Haruka was sure it would float a little before fully dropping. An unbloomed flower one moment turned into a beautiful rose the next. A horrible rainy day transformed into a mostly bright, cloudy day (along with an oddly exhausted Minori). Sure a lot of it could be passed off as luck but Haruka knew this girl’s luck was….lacking.
“I don't know An- Don't you think this is all a bit weird? I mean, just yesterday a penguin plushie appeared out of nowhere while we were shopping! I swear to you they had none left in stock! Trust me, I checked.”
An looked at her with a funny expression. Haruka knew what that face meant and she hated it. If An wasn't going to indulge in her delusions then who would!?
“Listen Haruka, I love ya but- this is insane! You know that, right?”
She let out a small chuckle, with a stupid smirk accompanying it. Sure the thought of magic existing was far fetched, if not impossible…but still!
“Hehe, I mean, Minori? Doing magic? I'm not saying that she's not talented but I don't think that's possible.”
“But you're always telling me crazy things all the time! Like when you were convinced there was a ghost in your shower but it was just your shadow?”
“HEY! I told you not to bring that up anymore- Wait, that's off topic!”
Haruka leaned back in her seat. Maybe she was being a little delusional but these things all lined up too nicely. It wouldn't hurt to make a little conspiracy would it?
“No”
“What?”
“I know that face Haruka. This isn't getting through that thick skull of yours. Minori does not have magic and you can not test whether or not that's true!”
An was serious. Looks like neither of them were going to convince the other.
“Whatever An. Let's talk about something else since you won't indulge me”
An rolled her eyes and let out a sigh, there was nothing she could do to convince Haruka. She was as stubborn as a mule when she had her head set on something.
♪♥♥♥♪
Halfway through the school day and none of Haruka's experiments had worked. She has set up so many scenarios for Minori to use her magic but Minori acted like nothing was out of the ordinary. Haruka even saw her trip! (Not part of the plan) And Minori didn't do anything to help herself!
Haruka sighed. Guess this was all for nothing. An was right, unfortunately. She was acting a little crazy.
“Ugh now I have to tell An she's right. She's absolutely going to rub it in my face for ages…”
Haruka walked sloppily up the stairs. Airi and Shizuku were out for a gig so it was just her and Minori today. Not that she minded. Minori was amazing. Her abundance of energy, her sheer tenacity, her angelic voice, the way her eyes crinkled when she smiled, the sun shining around her head like a halo- Hold on, what was she thinking!? This was a whole different can of worms Haruka did not feel like opening.
“Hehe, it's only you Minori”
Minori brought down her defenses so well. Haruka figured Minori could have any way with her if she really wanted.
Just then, as Haruka was lost in thought, her footing faltered. A small scream escaped her mouth and she tightly shut her eyes. These stairs were tall, and Haruka knew she would be severely injured, if not dead by the time she got down to the bottom. But as if time stopped, she could not feel herself falling anymore. It happened just as suddenly as the fall. Slowly she pried one eye open, then the other. She was floating!
“Haruka are you alright!?”
A familiar brunette haired girl swiftly appeared behind her, as if she had always been there. Haruka felt herself slowly sink into Minori’s arms.
“Uh Minori?”
“Yeah?”
As if realizing what she just did, Minori’s turned bright red. She attempted to say something but all that came out were sputters of words.
“HARUKA I- I SWEAR I- UH- YEAH??????”
Haruka couldn't stop the hysterical laugh that came out of her. Minori was acting so adorably flustered. Plus, SHE WAS RIGHT! Looks like An would have to suck it!
“BAHAHA! You're a riot Minori!”
Haruka swiftly wiped a small tear at the corner of her eye
“You're not…scared? Or weirded out? I mean, I just made you float!”
“Oh Minori, how could I ever be scared of you? Just because you have magic doesn't change anything about you. And you saved me! Of course I'm not scared!”
“...really?”
“Really”
Minori stammered a bit before going silent. She couldn't make out anything cohesive in a scenario like this.
A scenario she may or may not have dreamed about….
“Well, are you ready for practice? I'll be a little more lenient considering you did just save me from probable death”
Minori couldn't focus on Haruka's face for much longer. How could someone be this kind and beautiful and-
Haruka laughed again as Minori let out a high pitched scream. She always found it amusing when Minori got lost in her thoughts. Part of her wondered how she would react if Haruka confessed….
Nope! Haruka was determined to not think of that right now. She just wanted to focus on the present and look at the wonderful girl in front of her.
“Sorry Haruka…Let's go up.”
She gently set Haruka down and sprinted up the stairs.
Smiling once again, Haruka was sure she was falling hard. But that didn't matter, at least right now. She was sure to get teased by An later.
“Haruka!?”
Right, practice…
Guess she would have to think of this later.
“Coming!”
Walking up the stairs she was met with warm sunlight. And the warm smile of Minori's flustered face.
Haruka knew that she would love her forever.
Even if she was a witch.
