Work Text:
It was late. Shizuku was lying in her bed, staring up at the ceiling. She couldn’t bring herself to glance at her phone to check how late it really was.
It had been a day since the news of Kaori’s passing. The funeral was in a couple days. Shizuku couldn’t even think about it without tears forming.
Her life. Gone.
Her willpower. Her savior. Just.. gone, in all but a couple of hours.
She sounded pathetic, didn’t she? Shizuku already could feel the all too familiar pressure behind her eyes. Then stinging in her nose.
Kaori was gone.
Shizuku focused on the sight of the plain white ceiling to get out of her head. But the thoughts still rang loud.
If she reached up, would Kaori return her desperate pleas? Was Kaori, her sweet Kaori, watching her in pain? Was her own pain giving her pain? She didn’t want Kaori to be in any pain.
She said she was going to see her tomorrow. Maybe she still could. Shizuku could still do it- join her, see Kaori again. They would be together, forever. All she had to do was..
Kaori wouldn’t want that. Shizuku still couldn’t figure out why Kaori wouldn’t want that.
She’ll never figure out fully, anyways.
Kaori sacrificed herself to keep Shizuku alive. Kaori wouldn’t want her dead. That was a good reason. She had to listen to Kaori.
But Kaori wasn’t here.
She’ll never be here again.
