Work Text:

Lightning crackled upon the darkened sky and the rain sounded almost deafening to his sensitive ears. He thought, you could even say it was raining cats and dogs. The general chuckled to himself as the storm raged on. Wooden walls seperated him and the unforgiving weather outside. His smile dropped as his eyes continued to scan the harsh weather just out of reach. Why was I even laughing? It wasn't that funny. Gorou's ears were alert, and listened to the rain drops patter on the ground and the way the wind rustled between the trees. He thought that there was some beauty to such cruel nature that was relentless in it's march of destruction. But the sunlight does shine brighter after the rain, doesn't it? He closed his eyes and tried to focus on the whistling of the wind. The air does feel crisper. And smells fresher too.
Gorou could hear familiar footsteps approaching his quarters. His eyes shot open and he held his breath for a few seconds. Even after all this time, he had to prepare himself to face him. As the door shuffled, he turned his head around to see Kazuha standing with his familiar smile. I really can't be saved, can I...
"I hope the weather hasn't bothered you as much as it has bothered me, dear friend." Kazuha began to come closer and dusted off a cushion to place it next to Gorou. "Ah, not really. I mean, it has, but it could be worse." Thunder roared outside. "I've been desensitized to this sort of noise I suppose." Gorou gazed out of the translucent window.
"Hmm. You would think all those months spent on The Alcor would have made my senses numb to the harsh sounds of nature, but, the numbness seems to disappear quite quickly. What a shame, really. I would have enjoyed wandering about Watatsumi about now." The wanderer tucked his hair behind his ears, a habit Gorou noticed would return whenever Kazuha wasn't bothered to give himself a haircut.
"I'd say Watatsumi looks better after the rain stops. Everything looks shinier somehow, as if the rain polished the trees and ground."
Kazuha responded with a hum. His eyes seemed fixated on the pattern of rain, or maybe it was the way the leaves danced against it, Gorou couldn't tell. He could never tell what the other was thinking. They were so similar, yet couldn't be more different to one another. It was an incredible chance of fate they were ever allowed to meet eachother, a chance that Gorou would forever be thankful for. I wonder if he feels that way too.
"General, is there something stuck on my hair?" Kazuha chuckled as Gorou quickly snapped from his daydream. How long was he staring at Kazuha for? "N-no! Sorry, Kazuha.. I was just lost in thought.." He turned his head to look outside, and unlike before, he couldn't really focus on anything with how hot his skin felt on his face. "No need to apologize, Gorou," Kazuha smiled fondly at his friend. "You looked quite dashing while being in such deep thought, and the oppurtunity to tease was too tempting."
"W-whatever! Please just let it go, Kazuha.."
The rain continued throughout the night, yet Gorou felt less alone than he did before. The thunder roared in his ears yet he felt as though he could handle the noise as long as he had Kazuha.
How funny. He thought. I wonder if he feels this way too.
