Work Text:
A knock startles Spock out of his thoughts. He quickly saves his work, then rises from his chair and crosses the room to answer the door.
It’s the human cadet from before. “Hi,” he says. “I’m Jim Kirk, your new neighbour.”
“I recall,” Spock replies. “Do you require assistance?”
He grins. “Oh, no, I’m good. Just thought I’d introduce myself. Since we’ll be living next door to each other and all.”
Spock nods. “Well, you may consider your objective accomplished.”
“Wait,” Kirk blurts out, sticking his foot in front of the door before Spock can close it. “Actually, I was wondering if you could help me with something?” He leans closer to Spock and flashes a hopeful smile.
Spock sighs internally. “Of course.”
“I just got here, and I’m starving. I was wondering if you could recommend a place to eat lunch?” Kirk leans against the doorframe in a clear display of feigned casualness. “Maybe you could even show me the way?”
“Of course,” Spock replies.
Kirk’s expression lights up. “Really?”
“You should have received an electronic copy of the orientation handbook when you enrolled. Refer to Section 8.1, On-Campus Dining Facilities.” And with that, Spock closes the door.
