When you really, truly believe that you only have so long left to live, it tends to cloud your judgment. Unfortunate. Just over fifty hours remaining, and Scout wants to spend all of that time preparing himself for the possibility of a single date. And Spy wants to help him! There’s no hope for either of them.
And yeah, maybe Spy is just doing this because he finds it funny to ridicule Scout. But he’s still doing it.
Something about spending multiple straight days exclusively with one person, being coached by that person on how to romance someone in a dignified way, though, is that it really makes a body start thinking about that person in a romantic way, dignified or not. Using a dummy for a stand-in does little to change that.
Especially when Spy is yelling at Scout to seduce him, and the dummy ceases to be sufficient so they’re dancing together, and Scout is supposed to be the one learning so it only makes sense for him to lead but instead Spy keeps trying to lead and they keep fighting to wrench that control away from one another—
Then Spy is getting fed up and pinning Scout against the wall and they’re arguing about who’s actually supposed to be in charge here, and then he’s kissing him fiercely on the mouth, and Scout, never one to shy away from a challenge, is kissing back. Hey, if a person were to spend all that time getting ready for a date, it only makes sense to be ready in case any kissing happens, too! It’s totally just practice. Totally.
It’s probably also practice when Scout starts clumsily tugging open the buttons on Spy’s blazer, and Spy slaps away his hands to undo them himself because the suit is Italian.
