Work Text:
Vampire are nocturnal, solitary creatures. Whatever TV shows and movies would say, most vampires would rather not have the company of another - usually a person - beside them in life; the risk of draining the life force from their body in cold blood and apathy a worrying problem.
For reasons justified and popularized by literature, vampires are to be feared as much as any mythical creatures that exist, if not more.
One example of vampires is Doctor Iva Robotnik. She appears to be a perfectly normal human, though a bit pale; if anyone knew the fearsome Doctor was a vampire, they’d say she was the most ideal vampire. Doctor Iva Robotnik despises humanity as much as she hated others of her kind, only staying around her creations and technology; she deems them the only reliable things on this godforsaken planet.
Solitary to her would be an understatement of the year. Any living organism would be a hindrance to her never-ending work, made literal by her immortality. Nothing would be able to make her stray from her path to world domination.
So, at this moment, Iva is confused to have found herself in her current predicament, though it is not all unpleasant. It isn’t bad to be wrong from time to time, not in this situation at least.
It is past midnight by a few minutes, but the Doctor works tirelessly throughout the night, begrudgingly trying to finish her government assigned projects, the blue illumination of her holographic the only source of light in the void of a lab. Iva knew she didn’t need rest, her nocturnal instincts making it so she is most awake at night and tired in the morning, but coffee solves that problem. However, a certain somebody kept insisting she does.
Unfortunately for Iva, she found that she has grown attached to this certain somebody, someone who at first was view as a pest, an annoyance and a hindrance, now one of the many motivation keeping her going. They fill her cold, dead heart with a warmth that she has never experienced, a sense of being loved that was far beyond her. Her undesirable traits were appreciated and adored, nothing like how the people that surrounds her treated them.
That person happens to be a government dog - both literally and figuratively. It didn’t take long for Iva to realize the literalness of that term when referring to them, didn’t take long for Iva to find out that they were a werewolf; it was a surprise, but it wasn’t all that shocking.
Over the many years of fictional literature - and fanfictions, unfortunately - people would come to think vampires and werewolves don’t have a good relationship with one another, hence the petty rivalry for plot reasons and enemies-to-lovers trope. Iva didn’t know how it was with others of her kind, but she finds she gets along rather well with a werewolf.
Iva doesn’t look away from the levitating panels even as the light footfall of an unexpected visitor comes closer, stopping just shy of the back of her chair. The lab is silent again, Iva’s breathing and pings of the Control Gloves barely audible but present.
“Doctor,” the person spoke up, their voice feminine, low and soft. Iva doesn’t spare a glance, only humming in acknowledgement as she crosses out an entire section of an equation she was working on.
Eventually, the Doctor spins around to face her visitor, finding that it is indeed her ever loyal agent standing there. If the Doctor is not mistaken, just an a few hours ago, Stone announced she was heading home, now here she is, standing before Iva with her hands clasped behind her back, spine straightened and eyes unwavering; the perfect image of professionalism and obedience. A dog that would never leave its owner no matter the situation, predicament and/or circumstance.
Iva smiles, more of a smirk, looking up at her agent - or as she likes to joke, her bitch – to meet those dark brown eyes, a glint of concern and adoration shining within their depths. Iva still cannot for the life of her figure out why Stone has such big eyes, looking almost like black boba pearls.
“Missed me already, Stone?” Iva cooed mockingly, one hand straying from the arm of her chair to hold Stone’s thigh, urging her to step closer to her. Nothing suggestive, but because Iva purely couldn’t keep herself away from Stone for too long. Immediately as she comes into contact, the warmth of Stone’s body soaks through her gloves, warming her icy hand unlike any other source of heat.
Stone does as Iva said, inching closer until she is between her legs, looking down at her beloved Doctor. Iva looks up at Stone, mind momentarily forgetting about her projects that are due that Saturday.
“Doctor, it’s late. You should have been in bed hours ago.” Stone said, slowly slipping onto Iva lap with the gentle ushering and gentle gaze. Once she is situated, she stares at her Doctor, patiently waiting for an explanation.
“See here, I am caught up in finishing three projects that are due this Saturday. If that isn’t something I should putting my mind to,” Iva trails off, smoothing her hands up her Agent’s thighs, then waist and coming to a halt at her sides. Iva gives Stone a gentle squeeze, then slowly, she leans to rest her forehead on the junction of Stone’s neck and shoulder, breathing in the earthy scent of her partner, a hint of her lavender perfume lingered.
Stone doesn’t say anything, just snaking her arms around Iva to embrace her, resting her chin atop the Doctor’s head while she soaks in the warmth of the other. The lab falls silent, a comfortable silence that both Stone and Iva have come to know, to appreciate, to love.
Love. Such a strong word, and even stronger emotion. Love could cloud one’s vision, maybe even distort it into something not quite pure. Iva has never known love; it was such a frivolous feeling that will divert one’s attention off their path to success, Iva would never want any relations with that feeling. That was up until now, until Stone came along and showed her exactly why people crave this feeling so much; why they crave to be loved by another.
Iva knows she would never be able to understand the meaning of loving and being loved, but as she holds Stone in her arms, hugging the Agent ever tighter, Stone combing through her hair while whispering sweet-nothings to her…
This, Iva concludes, this is what love feels like.
After another stretch of minutes, which to Iva felt like it lasted a decade, Stone pulls away while holding Iva’s gaze, her eyes soft and comforting. “Come to bed, Doctor?” Stone asked, her voice still hushed as if not to ruin the moment.
The Doctor nods despite herself, finding that she would agree to almost anything Stone would say at that moment. The Agent smiles, easing herself out of her partner’s lap. The instant Stone moves away, Iva feels the full force of the freezing lab’s atmosphere hit her, its coldness rivalling that of her own.
In the dark, she finds Stone holding out her hand, beckoning her to follow. Iva does, her grip on her partner like a vice, but not nearly strong enough to hurt her on accident. Stone leads Iva back to her personal quarters, never straying too far from Iva’s side. The room has seen much less use from Iva herself and more for Stone whenever she was working overtime.
Iva gets under her covers first while Stone excuses herself to change out of her work attire. The Doctor sits on the plush mattress, not really knowing what to do with herself but wait for the other woman to return.
When Stone returns, the glint in her eyes doesn’t contain any more concern or worry, but replaced by something for positive and happier. Stone slips in beside Iva, wrapping her arms immediately around the vampire and pulling her in, basically spooning her.
Iva would never admit to being a little spoon, but she does like the solidness of Stone’s body behind her. If she didn’t know any better, she’d assume that Stone’s metaphorical - in this form, at least - tail wagging with pure happiness.
The Doctor can only huff out her amusement, settling down to prepare for her state of unconsciousness and vulnerability. Though, Iva supposed being vulnerable isn’t so bad knowing that, beside her, there is someone who cares and would protect her.
