Work Text:

Dazai and chuuya were in a predicament. Their marriage hasn’t lasted long but unfortunately already left the honeymoon stage. They’ve been sleeping in separate areas, stopped eating together, and all in all just tired of each other. Of course, the usual bickering. Tonight however, they got into a huge argument.

“Dazai, I don’t give a shit anymore! I cant keep doing this!” Chuuya slammed the counter, knocking over a wine glass in the process.

Dazai laughed in response. “Can’t keep doing what Chibi? What is so awful that I do to you?”

Chuuya lost it. He got up from his chair and grabbed Dazai by the collar.

“EVERYTHING!” Chuuya shouted in his face. He gripped onto his collar harder.

“You’re embarrassing, I literally had to fish you out of a river today in front of all my colleagues! You’re stupid eating problems piss me off, I cant! I can’t stand you anymore! I can’t do this anymore Osamu. I’ve put up with your bullshit for too long. And also, stop fucking calling me Chibi in serious conversations.”

He unhanded Dazai tossing him to the floor. Dazai stared at him, baffled. Chuuya gets angry, but never this angry that he words literally everything that pisses him off about his “favorite” person.

“You’re not pleasant either! Shithead! How dare you use EVERYTHING I trust you with about me against me? I can’t believe you’d stoop so low.”

“ME? STOOP LOW? Oh, you’ve gone LOWER. Osamu, you’re the embodiment of a shithead.”

“Stop calling me that. I don’t like when you say it like that.” Dazai was beginning to break (in his own way).

“Fuck you. And fuck your shitty trust issues. I’m leaving. And hey, maybe I’ll divorce you so we don’t have to fucking deal with this shit anymore. This argument is YOUR fault.”

Chuuya slammed the front door behind him. Dazai was shocked. His eyes were dull. As long as he’d known chuuya, he’d never seen him act this way towards him. He’s the last person he’d expect this from. Dazai let out a loud cough whilst helping himself up. All that arguing messed with his throat. He’s been ill for a few days, but today it seemed to be worse. He was surprised Chuuya didn’t notice.

Dazai wasn’t going to cry. He normally doesn’t. These past few days have been rough for both of them. Work was very busy and to be fair, Dazai has been more of a burden lately. Still, he was heartbroken. He didn’t think Chuuya would break his trust, ever.

Dazai felt something hot rise up his throat. He gagged, running to the bathroom. He lifted the toilet lid and puked. It seems the argument made his illness peak. He felt feverish, weak, and overall just very sickly.

The next hour consisted of on and off vomiting. He couldn’t stop, mainly because he ate more than he should have. He was congested and struggled to breathe. He rested against the wall panting he was out of it at this point.

He called Chuuya, twice. Of course he was mad at him so he wasn’t going to answer. He tried leaving a voice mail but all that came out was Dazai saying his name and persistent gagging. Dazai passed out from exhaustion soon after sending the voice mail.

~

Chuuya heard his phone vibrate for the third time. He groaned. He decided this time he’d check the notification since it was a voicemail and he assumed it would be Dazai just sending him more comments.

While listening, he spat out his drink. Dazai didn’t sound like that an hour ago? What the hell happened?

“Holy shit! How the hell-? He was fine an hour ago..?” Chuuya was flabbergasted.

Part if him really didn’t give a fuck but he was always running after Dazai after something bad happened to him. He left a few bills on the counter and began running back home.

~

Dazai awoke and immediately gagged again. He moaned in pain as he vomited for the fourth time in the past two hours. He was delirious and nauseous. His head was pounding. He left out a breathless cough as he heard his husband calling his name.

“Chuu? Y-you came back?” He couldn’t yell as his throat hurt too much. He was upset at Chuuya but he really needed him.

Chuuya could smell the sick and vomit as he walked closer to the bathroom. He opened the cracked door and saw a very pale and sickly looking Dazai leaned again the wall with the toilet lid opened and vomit on his face.

“Jesus Christ! Dazai!”

He ran up to spouse and leaned next to him. He placed a hand on his forehead and watched as he shook in pain.

“I didn’t even know you were sick, how did you let it get this bad.”

Dazai let out a deep cough and answered to the best of his ability.

“I- ve been sick for a few days. It got worse after our uh- arg-argument.” He gagged again and subconsciously pushed Chuuya out of the way as he only spat up this time.

Chuuya suddenly felt guilty. If he really had been sick for a few days, the stress of their argument made it progress. Though Dazai was the cause of it, Chuuya was actually the one who started it. Not him.

“Okay, are you done puking?”

Dazai looked up at him. Sickly eyes. Oh how he looked horribly sick. Suddenly tears fell.

“Woah, hey, it’s okay. I’m here.”

Dazai weakly wiped his eyes and fell into Chuuya’s arms. Chuuya used his shirt sleeve to wipe the excess vomit from his mouth.

“I’d get you changed but I want to let you breathe for a second. And you’re clearly not in the right mind at the moment.”

“Chuu~” Dazai hoarsely groaned before letting out another cough and also a sniffle.

Chuuya placed a hand on his forehead. Wincing at the heat. He was burning up.

“I’ll be back, I’m going to grab the first aid kit.”

Chuuya put the thermometer in his mouth and went back into the bathroom to set a bath.

“103. That’s not good. We need to get it down. Do you feel like eating? It could help you feel better.”

Dazai shook his head. Chuuya grabbed a water bottle from the fridge and helped his lover drink.

“Your bath should be ready, let’s get you undressed.”

Chuuya undressed him. He didn’t know if he should take his bandages off but he really didn’t have a choice. His body was scattered with scars. Self inflicted and wounds from his days at both the agency and mafia. He helped him into the bath and began washing him gently.

“Chuu, I’m sorry.”

Chuuya looked confused. Then remembered he was probably mentioning their argument earlier.

“Dazai, I’m sorry. It was my fault. I shouldn’t have said any of that to you. That wasn’t right of me. And now look, I stressed you so much now you’re incredibly sick.”

“Mm- I’ve been sick for a few days chibi.” He let out a cough.

“Yes, but you were fine which is why you didn’t tell me. And then I went ahead and got you worse. Stress really does affect your health.”

Dazai let out a series of painful coughs that wracked his frame. Chuuya helped him out the tub and redressed him. He lifted him and placed him into bed along with a trash can on his side.

“Okay, I’m going to give you some tea and also medicine. Any request?”

“Chamomile.”

Chuuya smiled. He brushed his love’s bangs out of his face and kissed his forehead.

—-

Chuuya placed the tea on the table. He gave Dazai a tissue to blow his nose and began preparing the medicine.

“No.”

“What?”

“No medicine.”

Of course he wouldn’t want to take it, he’s stubborn.

“Babe please, it’ll help you get better. I don’t like seeing you this sick. You’re clearly in pain.”

Dazai let out another cough. He looked at Chuuya tiredly and groaned deeply.

“Just give the damn pills.” He snatched them from his hands and threw them in his mouth.”

“Okay slow the fuck down before you choke, here take a few sips of your tea.”

Dazai grabbed the teacup and lifted it to his lips, his hands were shaking but Chuuya helped steady them with his.

“I’m sorry.”

“Gosh stop apologizing, I already told you it’s my fault. Now try to sleep.”

“Sleep with me?”

“Hm? I need to shower.”

“Please?” Dazai said like he was a little boy. Chuuya smiled sadly and sighed.

“Babe, I’ll be as quick as I possible and then I’ll sleep with you.”

He was indeed quick. He slipped into the bed next to Dazai. He stoked his hair for a while before he fell asleep.

~

Dazai shot up. He was panting loudly. He leaned over and choked the tea he drank earlier into the garbage can. He started whining and this startled Chuuya awake.

“Babe? Osamu? Oh poor thing. You can’t even keep tea down.”

Dazai fell back into the mattress and started crying, sobbing. Not like him but he was feverish.

“Woah, it’s okay. Dazai?” Chuuya turned over brushing the hair out of his lovers face.

“Im in pain, Chuuya’s mad at me, Im tired. I hate this I want to die!” He sat up and bawled into the palms of his hands.

Chuuya hugged him tightly as he sobbed into his arms.

“I know it hurts, I’m sorry. I might need to get you stronger medicine. And Im not mad at you anymore, I promise. I didn’t mean what I said. I’m sorry.”

After quite a bit of time, the sobbing stopped. Dazai fell asleep in Chuuya’s arms. He adjusted them both and they fell asleep in each other’s company.

In the morning, Chuuya called them both out of work. While Dazai was still asleep, he went out to buy medicine and things Dazai can keep in his stomach when nothing else will.

“Samu?” Chuuya opened the bedroom door to see Dazai sitting up. He seemed more in his own mind than the previous night. He walked up to him and placed a hand on his forehead.

“It seems the medicine really did help despite not being strong. Your fever went down.”

Dazai hummed in response.

“Sorry for uh-“

“God stop apologizing. I already told you remember? Now. I got you a different tea, more medicine, and some light crackers. If you don’t feel like eating it’s okay.”

He gave Dazai the medicine, which he reluctantly took of course, along with tea. The day consisted of Chuuya doing paperwork whilst Dazai slept or watched Tv.

That night, Dazai improved drastically. He did still have a slight fever and was still congested but other than that he was mostly recovered.

“Thank you, Chuuya. And I’m sorry. For everything.”

“I’m also sorry, very sorry. I regret all that I said.”

Dazai let out a small laugh which turned into a cough.

“I’m surprised you feel regret? You know what you said is true. You can get mad at my annoying nature sometimes it’s fine. I can take it.”

“Clearly not. I stressed you out so much you got extremely sick.”

“It’s okay Chibi. I’m fine now.”

“Im glad. Also, don’t be a dumbass and tell me when you’re sick before hand.”

Dazai smiled warmly. They cuddled closer and embraced into a warm kiss.

“Feel better Mackerel. I love you.”

Dazai smiled, letting out a small chuckle.

“I love you too, Chuuya.”
