Chapter Text
“Do we know him?!”
“Pretty sure I have never seen this man!”
Running through the woods. Great. As if they didn’t have enough things to worry about, now there’s some bloke trying to murder them? Mugman huffed, slowly running out of breath. His stamina was always great, but running for this long isn’t good for anyone. He took a sharp turn, his brother following suit. Cuphead, being the absolute crackhead he is, grabbed his straw, it transforming into and old fashioned pistol, and looked over his shoulder to shoot at their attacker. But he missed. Why? Well, it’s simple – he was in absolute shock.
“Kas per š*- Holy fuck, Mugs, he has a huge ass axe!!”
“What?!”
“Ya heard me!!”
Yes, Mugman heard him loud and clear – his twin was yelling after all… Mugman couldn’t keep up anymore, seeing his brother run past him, getting further and further, his vision dazing over, he felt like he was suffocating. His chest was tight, sharp pain right between his ribs. Not to mention he was already tired when they got attacked. “He probably lurked, stalking us,” – Mugman thought – “that’s how he knew when to attack, when we’re vulnerable-“
Mugman’s train of thought was disrupted by a tree root in the ground, causing him to trip over it, and fall to the ground with a grunt. He looked up, seeing Cuphead stop dead in his tracks, shouting at him… Or just shouting in general..? He couldn’t tell, the ringing in his ears prevented him to hear anything correctly, only allowing him to hear his own heavy breathing. He pushed through it, slowly standing up, Cuphead grabbing him just in time – the man – rabbit? – that was after them attempted to slash down onto Mugman.
“Jeez, Mugs! Are you okay-“
Cuphead asked, making sure to hold Mugman up so he doesn’t fall, but the other just pushed him away, dusting himself off, fixing his belt and making sure his handle is still intact. He was still in pain, and still breathing heavily.
“I’m fine, I just tripp-“
He saw the axe swinging at them in the corner of his eye, pushing Cuphead out of it’s way, as well as jumping backwards himself, barely grasping his footing. He looked up once more, just in time to see the attacker raise his axe once more, and jumped behind a tree, said axe hitting it instead of the mug’s head.
“Jeez, pal, why you coming at us for?! You want a sawbuck**or two?If so, sorry, ‘cause believe me, we don’t have those!”
He managed to joke in this situation. He knew Cuphead did this all the time, especially when he wanted to take his mind off of something – like, let’s say physical pain. He ducked down as the guy swung his axe at him once again. Mugman wanted to take a good look at this random joe, but couldn’t, since he was wearing a mask. All he could do was duck and avoid… Or-
“Ack-“
Mugman had kicked the bloke in the stomach. Why didn’t they fight him sooner? They had let their guard down, that’s why! But he wasn’t about to make the same mistake twice. He ducked and avoided every swing at him, punching and kicking the other every chance he got, until finally he managed to land a punch on his face, the mask flying off.
“You bastard-“
A pained voice groaned out, as the man held onto his face. He had kind of a British accent, if we’re being honest. The guy gripped his axe, trying to swing it at Mugman once again, but he ducked, so he kicked him in the chest while he was still slightly bent down, causing the other to fall down on his butt.
Mugman, could’ve stood up, yes, but he was too focused on trying to see the other’s face, so he just scooted away as the man got a stronger grip on his axe. The air felt denser than ever, the tension so thick you could cut it with a knife. The rabbit raised his axe, his eyes filled with pure determination as he was ready to end this fight…
But Mugman noticed something. That familiar blue. The ribbon, that easily complimented a pair of green eyes that he so fondly remembers… He looked away from the accessory, looking up at the attacker’s face, catching every detail, every sprinkle of gold and blue in his eyes, seemingly knowing exactly where to look for them…
“Anthony..?”
