Work Text:
Their comeback for Nectar is up and coming. The group had tons of performances lined up for the past few months since the award show season has wrapped up.
Each and every member has a busy schedule. Whether it be in South Korea, or abroad, everyone has something that they need to do. Magazine photoshoots, radio shows, and content filming for their fans to see.
Their new album will be released in March, and the members are busy with the preparation for the album.
The group had already finished filming their music video. The only thing they need to do is to finish learning the choreography before their promotions start.
The Boyz are known for their powerful and complex choreographies. If we compare the choreography for Nectar to their other songs like “The Stealer”, “Reveal”, and more, the choreography is not as powerful as those songs.
Still, learning a new choreography could still have its own obstacles for people who are not accustomed to dancing. But, this is The Boyz. The group who had been in the industry for 7 years.
So why is Chanhee struggling so hard learning the choreography for their new album? Chanhee isn't the best dancer in the team, but he has learned and improved his technique over the years.
They learned the choreography three days ago, and have been practicing and improving their parts two days ago, yesterday, and today. They have been going over the same part over and over again for the past 30 minutes. All of them had memorized the full choreography. Well, except for Chanhee.
Changmin usually doesn’t mind it when they have to go over a part of the choreography for some time. He had the patience to teach the members and give them tips and tricks to master their choreography.
“Everyone else can take a break except for Chanhee. I’ll go over the choreography with you.” Changmin said.
Chanhee felt anxious about staying in the practice room with the younger. The younger displayed a frustrated expression on his face, though it does not show in the way he talks to the older, the other members who were around could feel it.
Chanhee kept messing up the choreography which made Changmin felt even more frustrated. The two stayed in the practice room longer than intended.
“You need to focus, Chanhee. You should practice the moves a bit more, then you will be able to do it. Let's go home and get something to eat.” Changmin said, patting the older's shoulder. Chanhee removed the hand from his shoulder and smiled at the younger.
“I think I'll stay for a bit. I feel like I could do better than what I just did.” Chanhee replied. Changmin didn’t say anything and packed his stuff and left the room.
The moment that Changmin left the room, Chanhee fell to the ground. Tears that he was trying to hold back had started to fall from his eyes.
It hasn’t been an easy week for him. He was too tired to continue on. He doesn’t know when it started, but everything became too overwhelming for him. Exhaustion took over his whole body and it made it hard for him to keep up with the other members.
It was already late when he finished practicing by himself. 2:30 a.m. to be exact. After practicing for a long time, he packed his bags and went back home. There weren't a lot of taxis or buses available at this time so he had to wait for a long time before he could eventually come home.
By the time he came home, the lights were already off and no sight of the 3 other members living in the dorm with him. That's what he thought.
Chanhee, feeling relieved that the members seemed to have gone to bed, took off his shoes and went straight to his room. The moment he opened the door, he was greeted by Changmin who was sitting on his bed.
“Why are you only coming back now? Do you know how late it is?” Changmin said, clear frustration was heard in his voice.
“Why did you wait for me?” Chanhee asked, confused.
“Because I was worried! No one knew where you were and some were blaming me for leaving you alone.”
Chanhee found it ridiculous. “Why would you worry about me? I'm perfectly fine.”
“I was worried that you're gonna overwork yourself because of what I said earlier!”
Chanhee words. He set his bags down on the floor and looked the younger male, “Get out.” placed his bag down and opened the door of his room, “Get out. Now!” Changmin didn’t argue back and left the room. Chanhee sighed and laid down right after taking off his coat.
Memories from practice earlier went through his mind. He knew Changmin. The two of them were very close in the group. He knew that the younger male didn’t mean any of those that he had said to him earlier. But it was still painful for Chanhee who was struggling. Changmin didn’t say anything else and stormed out of the room. Chanhee closed the door and laid down on his bed, tears rolling down his face as he closed his eyes to sleep.
The next day, Chanhee woke up with a massive headache. His body was so exhausted that it was hard for him to stand up properly and get ready.
He was moving so slow to the point that Younghoon had to check up on him every minute. Eventually, he got himself ready.
“Chanhee… Are you almost ready?” Younghoon asked from outside his room.
Chanhee put socks on and grabbed his shoes and opened the door. He smiled at the male in front of him and said, “All done,” before he walked past the male.
Younghoon felt something off about the younger male. He shaked the feeling off and followed him out of their dorm.
The two of them got in the car with Juyeon and Changmin. Younghoon and Chanhee sat at the back while Juyeon and Changmin sat in front of them.
The ride was silent. Juyeon had dozed off and Younghoon chose to go on his phone and probably update their fans.
Soon enough they arrived at their company. Most of the members were already inside. Some were roaming the building, taking pictures, and getting ready for practice.
Chanhee sat quietly in the corner trying not to gather attention from his members. He slowly massaged his legs that had been hurting since early morning.
Younghoon entered their practice room after talking with their manager about his schedule. He immediately set his eyes on Chanhee who was sitting in the corner. He didn’t dare approach the man, but carefully observed its movement.
Not long after, Changmin had entered their practice room. The members all stood up, including Chanhee, and gathered in the middle of the room.
The practice went smoothly without any mistakes. The members noticed the change in Changmin’s attitude towards Chanhee, but decided not to pry.
In Changmin’s mind, he was happy for Chanhee since he had been more focused on dancing and they were able to finish cleaning their choreography easier. However, the conversation with Chanhee from yesterday never left his mind, thus, he was too afraid to approach him.
“Let’s take a 30 minute break.” Changmin said, before a loud thud was heard in the room.
Younghoon, who was still observing Chanhee, was horrified when the male suddenly dropped to the floor. He rushed beside Chanhee, while the other members stared in shock.
Sangyeon immediately called their manager and told him about the situation before telling Younghoon to carry the male towards the parking lot.
“Let’s all go home today. I’ve already talked with the manager on the phone about it.” Sangyeon calmly told the rest of the members.
The other members nodded and began packing up their things, including Younghoon and Chanhee’s, before leaving the room.
One member fell quiet after what happened. Sangyeon who was still on the phone with their manager noticed Changmin who was staring at the floor where Chanhee had collapsed.
He ended the call with their manager and walked towards the male. He placed his arm on Changmin’s shoulder which made the other flinch and looked towards him. Sangyeon could notice how the male had a frightened expression.
“Are you okay?” He asked. Changmin shook his head and looked down again. Sangyeon placed both of his hands on Changmin’s shoulders and looked at the male. “Mind explaining to me what happened?”
Before Changmin could talk, Sunwoo had come into the room calling for the two of them. “We’re waiting for you two. Are you guys done?”
The two grabbed their bags and nodded. The two of them followed Sunwoo out of the building and into the van. Before they could go inside, Sangyeon took a hold of Changmin’s wrist and said, “We still have to talk, okay?”
Changmin smiled and nodded at the older male before stepping inside the vehicle. Sangyeon followed behind, sitting beside Eric who was on the phone with Jacob.
“Jacob-hyung said that Chanhee-hyung seems to have a fever. They’re heading home first so that Chanhee-hyung can lay down comfortably. Jacob-hyung asked us to grab some medicine, and if possible something to eat.” Eric told Sangyeon.
“I thought they were on the way to the hospital?” Sunwoo asked from the backseat.
“Hyung said that Chanhee-hyung woke up. He said that he just wanted to go home. The others couldn’t say no.” Eric replied.
Meanwhile in the other van, the members were making sure that Chanhee was comfortable. The male regained consciousness for a while before sleeping with his head on Younghoon’s lap.
“What’s happening?” Chanhee said, as he looked up at Younghoon who had his arms wrapped around him.
“Chanhee-hyung! Don’t get up yet.” Haknyeon said, supporting the male’s head to lay down on Younghoon’s lap.
“You passed out earlier during practice. We’re gonna take you to the hospital.” Jacob replied to Chanhee’s question.
“Can we just go home? I don’t want to go to the hospital.” Chanhee pouted, while massaging his head.
“Are you sure?” Haknyeon asked. Chanhee responded with a nod.
The three members looked at each other then nodded. Jacob informed their manager about the change of plans.
“I’ll call the others and tell them that we’re heading home. I’ll ask them to grab some medicine for you and something to eat.” Jacob said, before fishing out his phone from his bag.
Younghoon looked down on the male on his lap, “You should sleep. I’ll wake you up once we get home.”
The van stopped by the parking lot of their residence. Carefully, Younghoon woke up the sleeping figure of the younger male on his lap. With no signs of him waking up, the members helped him carry Chanhee out of the vehicle and into their dorm.
Haknyeon supported Chanhee’s head as they slowly walked towards the dorm where the male lives. Jacob went in first to assist Younghoon towards Chanhee’s room.
The three of them tried to wake up the sick male. Chanhee was sleeping so much that they didn’t want to bother the male to get changed into a more comfortable clothing.
Haknyeon took out some clothes from Chanhee’s wardrobe and gave it to Younghoon and Jacob. The two of them slowly undressed the sleeping male before wiping down his body with a wet towel.
Chanhee stirred in his sleep which made the rest panic a bit. When he showed no signs of waking up, they began to wipe his body again before putting him in more comfortable clothing.
Soon enough Kevin, Juyeon and Hyunjae arrived. The three of them rushed to see Chanhee. Jacob and Haknyeon, who were leaving the room, dragged the three to the living room.
“Is he okay?” Kevin asked.
“Not sure. He woke up in the car earlier, begging us not to bring him to the hospital. He has a fever though and it seems like he has a headache.” Haknyeon replied.
“I think I remember Sunwoo telling me how Changmin and Chanhee were probably fighting last night.” Juyeon told them as he recalled his conversation with Sunwoo earlier this morning.
“I don’t think their fight led to Chanhee having a fever.” Hyunjae said, before they heard the door opening.
The rest of the members came back with bags of food in hand. Hyunjae and Juyeon helped them carry the bags, while Kevin and Haknyeon set up the table in the living room.
“Where’s Sangyeon-hyung and Changmin?” Hyunjae asked Eric as he placed the bags of food on the table.
“They’re outside. Sangyeon-hyung ushered us to go in first, because they had something to talk about.” Eric replied.
Jacob took a plate from the kitchen and put some chicken and pizza on it. “Sunwoo. Give this to Younghoon, he hasn’t eaten anything yet. He’s in Chanhee’s room.”
Sunwoo took the plate and walked towards the said room. He knocked twice before entering. “Hyung. Here’s some food for you to have. If you want more you can go outside or you can call one of us.” He said, as he placed the plate on the desk in Chanhee’s room.
He looked towards Chanhee. The boy was wrapped in his blanket, but was still shivering badly. Sweat was dripping down from his head.
“Thanks. Can you ask Kevin to make some soup for Chanhee?” Younghoon asked, as he wiped the sweat from Chanhee’s body.
Sunwoo nodded and exited the room. He went straight to Kevin and asked him to make some soup for Chanhee. The elder nodded and went straight to the kitchen.
Just then, Sangyeon and Changmin had both returned as well. Sangyeon went straight to Chanhee’s room with medicine in hand, while Changmin sat beside Juyeon hugging his legs to his chest.
Juyeon offered him the chicken he had in hand, but the younger refused before standing up and walking towards his room. The others exchanged glances, but decided to let him be.
After a few minutes, Kevin finished cooking the soup for Chanhee and plated it in a small bowl. He took a wooden tray from the cupboards and placed the bowl of soup on it with a spoon, a cup of tea and water before giving it to Sunwoo.
Sunwoo thanked him and carefully went to Chanhee’s room with the help of Eric. He placed the wooden tray on Chanhee’s desk.
“Chanhee-yah. Can you sit up for a while? You need to eat something before drinking medicine.” Sangyeon said to the sick male. Chanhee nodded slowly, and got up with the help of Younghoon and Sunwoo.
Sangyeon took the bowl of soup and gave it to Younghoon. Younghoon took the bowl and scooped a small amount and blew it before feeding it to Chanhee.
Sangyeon and Sunwoo decided to leave after the male started eating. Sangyeon told the rest of the members outside the room to go to their respective dorms to get some rest.
They all stood up and gathered their stuff before saying goodbye to Sunwoo and going to their dorms. Sunwoo closed the door as the last member left the dorm. He looked back at the state of their apartment, and it wasn’t completely clean.
Sighing to himself, he began to clean up the mess they had made. He also washed the dishes and went back to his own room after.
Meanwhile, Chanhee had finished the soup that Younghoon was feeding him. His stomach felt better after having the soup. He had the tea as well, and drank medicine after.
He was about to settle back to sleep, when Younghoon began talking, “I know you’re tired, Chanhee. When you’re tired, get some rest. Don’t push your limits like this.”
Chanhee saw disappointment in Younghoon’s face. Everyone knows that Younghoon isn’t the type to get mad easily.
“I… I didn’t want this to happen. I just didn’t want to become a burden to all of you.” Chanhee replied, hugging his legs to his chest, “What Changmin told me yesterday got to me, and I couldn’t stop thinking about it.”
Younghoon paid full attention to Chanhee, “What did Changmin tell you yesterday?”
Before Chanhee could speak up, a knock was heard getting their attention. Younghoon stood up and opened the door to see Changmin. “Can I speak to Chanhee? Alone.”
Younghoon looked at Chanhee, who smiled and nodded. He let the man in and grabbed his stuff in the room before leaving.
Silence filled the room after Younghoon left. Changmin walked towards Chanhee’s side and sat beside the male hesitantly.
“I’m sorry… I didn’t think clearly enough and said those words that might have hurt you. I should have kept my personal problems and worries to myself. I shouldn’t have taken it out on you.” Changmin explained.
“I know you’re tired, but you’re not the only one. Stop messing around and do it properly.”
Chanhee remembered those exact words. Their argument last night didn’t help to soothe their situation. In his mind, what the younger said didn’t hurt exactly. It was a fact, he thought. Everyone else was tired from their own schedules.
“I’m not mad at you, Changmin. I know what you meant when you said those words. I’m also sorry.”
“Still. I could have approached the problem better, and your apology is accepted.”
Chanhee smiled at the younger man and reached towards him before pulling the man into a hug. “Thank you for helping me even though you yourself were having a hard time.”
Changmin snuggled into his arms and hummed. “You're welcome. Are you feeling better now?”
“Much better.”
The two drifted into silence. Soon enough, the arms that were tightly wrapped around Changmin’s body slowly loosened and soft snores were heard from the sick male.
Changmin got up and wrapped the blanket around Chanhee’s body before leaving the room.
