The day had finally come,after the hardships of Charles trying to make Mia understand his feelings toward her were romantic instead of platonic.The confession had been pretty much straightforward.
"I like you,like you. In a romantic way".
That seemed like an eternity ago,for which was the happiest for Charles.He wouldn't mind it had been longer.His dreams had become a reality.He was a fashion designer and dating the girl of his dreams.He couldn't have asked for more.
Today he was going to propose to her.He wore a black shirt,as well as pants with a dark crimson red tie.He pulled out the ring box from his pocket.
The green emerald had matched her eyes,the shank gold resembled her hair.His name and hers had been engraved in the middle.Simple,yet it was made to match her wardrobe.Sunlight was reflected with the ring,it glowed while light danced through the room.Just like Mia,it brought a glimmer of hope into his world.The first time he had met her,he thought she was timid,a coward.But after getting to know her,he could truly call it love at first sight.
Say It by Yorushika started blasting through his phone
"What's up,Core?"
"Honestly,I should be the one asking you that. Me and Ji-Won's already there."
"Got all the supplies I bought?"
"Yep.Got everything covered!Man,I remember that one time you got flowers for Mia and she still called you a friend"Corey bursted out laughing.
"Not funny!"Charles whined. It was humiliating getting the girl you like flowers,only to be considered platonic.
"Joking.What's that?Oh yeah,Ji-Won wants you to hurry up."
"What?B-but I need to get my hair ready!"
"10 minutes".
Corey hanged up the call._Darn it_
He was rushing things,skipping the hair gel, only taking his comb with him.Style it there.He ran to the spot he had promised to take Mia on their date for today.He brought out the proposal plan to Corey and Ji-Won to help him.Thought Corey was in a pickle because Emilia as well as Joni was beginning to suspect things.Nothing such as a lie gets through them.
He finally made it to the waterfalls after an eleven minutes run.
"You're late."Ji-Won stood before him with his arms crossed.
"Hey!Only by 5 minutes.That is barely late"Charles said trying to explain himself.Ji-Won rolled his eyes.
"Corey's inside."Ji-Won stated as they walked towards the spot.
A picnic basket layed on the grass with food on little plates.The whole scenery covered with shade underneath a big oak tree. It was perfect.Just as he had planned.
"What is going on?"They turned their heads to see Emilia with Joni behind her with her arms crossed.
"Hey Emi-uh...we were planning a picnic?"Corey smiled.Hoping it would make Emilia less angry.
"It was you,wasn't it?!" Joni shrieked while pointing to Charles.
"You planned this picnic date for Mia."
"Wha-" Charles could clearly see that Joni wasn't convinced.That monkey...
"Fine.I was planning a picnic date to propose to Mia"
"See told you it was a date-WAIT DID YOU SAY PROPOSE?!"
Charles clamped Joni's mouth shut with his hands.
"Are you crazy?!Mia's coming any minute now.And I want this to be a surprise.You shouting,might as well tell the whole world!"Charles whispered,letting go of his hands.
"Maybe I will!"Joni whispered back.
"Joni?Emilia?"Everyone was stunned to see Mia.
"Mia!Great to see you um-"Corey immediately grabbed Emilia and Joni,pulling them behind a bush.
"Cero,what's going on?"
This was it.He got on one knee while Mia stood infront of him,confused.His heartbeat was so loud,he could have sworn that Mia would hear it.
"Mia.You are the girl of my dreams.The sunshine in my darkness.You have made me the happiest man down to earth.And I would like to make you happy too.I wish to be by your side through comfort and hardships to support you".
He gazed at her.Her expression still clueless.He smiled.
"Will you marry me?"
"Yes!"
The whole group cheered.They were going to have a wedding.Joni and Emilia embraced Mia in a hug with tears on their face.Corey pat Charles back,clearly proud of him.Ji-Won congratulated him upon his marriage.Charles looked at Mia,she was stunning,beautiful as always.He would marry her over and over again if he could.
He came home that night.Everyone took a cab and left.He was overfilled with joy.He was Mia's fiancé.He was happy at just the word alone.He was going to get married to Mia.
Ringgg ringggg
He looked over to his phone to see his mother was calling him.It was the perfect time to tell her about his engagement.His mother was sobbing.He had never heard his mother crying like this.Worry dreaded over him.
"Mom?What's wrong?"He asked softly,hoping she would calm down.
"It's just-"she broke down into tears again.
"What is it?"
"I'm so sorry to tell you this,my dear.But...
Mia died in a car accident"
_Mia died?No.No.No.NO.THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING.SHE WAS THERE JUST NOW.WE HAD A PICNIC TOGETHER.WE JUST GOT ENGAGED.I SHOULD HAVE-_
"Charles?"
He hanged up the call.He was too stunned with the news.
I should have been there with her.I should have walked her home.
He broke down.Choking on his own tears.Mia,his lover had died.Just today,they had fun.And now she was gone.
The next day was a stormy rain.The sun was no where to be found among dark grey clouds.Everyone wore black.Joni and Emilia could not stop crying.Corey held an umbrella over their heads,crying uncontrollably.Ji-Won was digging a hole into the ground with strangers to bury her casket.
Charles walked over to the coffin that stood before him.There Mia had layed.Expressionless.She looked like she was asleep.He reached his hand over to brush her cheek.White powder had stuck to his fingers.She looked so pale.She wouldn't want this.She never liked the dark.She would stay in the light.She resembled the sun.But now,she would decay in it.
