“Aki your hot air balloon is arriving soon.” said Kirumi. She was your friend and your maid. She was known for following any request in Japan. But, since Japan had a war, many people died, leaving the remaining survivors to move to South Korea. Kirumi agreed to be your personal maid but you also considered her a friend.
“Okay” You said, anxious but also excited because you’ve never been on a hot air balloon before. You looked up at the bright blue sky and saw something through the clouds. Suddenly, a big balloon holding came out of the clouds, lowering itself down. The people who were in the balloon opened the gate thingy and stepped out, one by one. One of them was short and had long, wavy purple hair, and was wearing a tattered white uniform and a checkered scarf. The other one was taller and had navy hair and was wearing a black uniform and had a hat covering his face. The purple boy seemed very happy and the navy boy was very nervous and scared.
“That was fun!! Don’t you think Saihara Chan?” said the purple boy.
“Y-yeah….fun.” the navy boy said.
“Ah greetings Kokichi, Shuichi,” said Kirumi, smiling a little.
“H-Huh? Kirumi?” Said the Navy boy.
“Oh hey mommy! What are you doing here?” asked the purple boy.
“Do you know them?” You asked.
“Yes,” She replied, “They went to my school.”
“Why did he call you mommy?” You asked. She looked at me and then at the purple boy, who grinned, then back at me. She leaned over and whispered in my ear.
“I am afraid Kokichi never had a good relationship with his mother,” she said, “I was the best mother figure to he had.”
“Oh”, you said.
“What’re guys whispering about?” asked Kokichi, “Can I join?”
“Uh no anyways let’s go on the hot air balloon Kirumi.” You said
“Ok then.” said Kirumi. We walked past Shuichi and Kokichi and got in the basket. The hot air balloon started to lift up and you and Kirumi could see the whole city from there. You and Kirumi had a great time.
When the hot air balloon finally landed in the grass below you and Kirumi got out to be greeted by Kokichi and Shuichi.
“Well? Was that fun?” asked Kokichi.
“Yes!” You replied.
“Do you wish to go home now Aki?” Asked Kirumi.
“Yes!” You answered quickly because you were pretty tired as you didn’t go out very much.
“O-Oh already?” asked Shuichi.
“Yeah sorry! It was nice to meet you guys!” you said happily.
“Yeah you too! Aki right?” Asked Kokichi.
“Yup that’s me!”
You, Kirumi, Kokichi and Shuichi all said their goodbyes. You and Kirumi got in the car and drove home.
*TIME SKIP*
“I think you should take a break and go to bed, Kirumi.” You said
“Really? Are you sure?” asked Kirumi.
“Yeah! You’ve been working really hard lately and I don’t have any requests so you should go take a break for the day!” You said.
“Thank you Aki,” Kirumi smiled, “You are very kind.” She said and went upstairs. You sighed as you thought about the hot air balloon. Kokichi, Shuichi. Are they friends? Best friends? You coulda swore you saw them holding hands with each other when they thought they were out of your sight.
*Tok* *Tok* *Tok* You heard a knock at the door. Anxious, you decided to check the peephole. You stepped over to the wooden door and put your eye close to the peephole to see nothing but the dim street lights outside. You pulled back, confused.
“Is someone there?” You asked. No answer.
If there is no one there then that means they left, right? Maybe you got a package. Procrastinating a bit, you decided to open the door. You lifted your hand to the doorknob and unlocked the door, putting the chain on just in case. Then slowly lifting your hand to the bronze colored door knob, wrapping your fingers around it and slowly turning it.
The door slowly opened, as it did you could hear car noises coming from the freeway nearby. You looked down to see some water on the concrete below. You got your microglasses and put them on to see there was a tardigrade in the water. You looked at it, intrigued. You took off your microglasses and got a syringe to suck the water up and get the tardigrade and all the other microrganisms so you could study the strange creature.
Suddenly the syringe exploded, getting water on you and the ground below you saw a boy with a black skeleton hoodie and leggings. He had off white hair that, like Kirumi, covered his eye so all you could see was his purple eye.
“Hello human” he said, bored
“But, aren’t you human?” you asked.
“No I am grim reaper” he said in a deep dark voice.
“Oh okay” You said, not confused at all.
“You’re not scared?” He said.
“No.” You said, now confused.
“Why not?” he said, glaring daggers at you.
“Cause obviously you’re not a real grim reaper right?”
“I am a real grim reaper who can shapeshift into many different things and you are just a mere human who seems dumber than other humans I have seen.” he said, glaring more and more daggers, causing you to feel nervous.
“That’s not nice.” you said.
“So?” He said.
“....”
“Whatever. So do you know where Kokichi is, Aki?”
“Huh? How do you know my name?”
“I just do now do you know where he is?
“No. Are you a friend of his?”
“I am Kokichi”
“Wait what?”
“........”
“Why did you ask me where he is then?”
“I’m from an alternate universe and the only way to open my universe back up is to have me and him be at the same place at the same time.”
“Is something wrong? I heard an explosion.” said Kirumi’s voice. She looked at you and then at the strange boy.
“Who is this?” she asked.
“I am Kokichi but you can call me Karito instead.”
“What?” she said, shocked.
“I am from an alternate universe” he said.
“Oh okay that’s not strange at all” she said now calm.
“You people are weird.” he said.
“So we just go to Kokichi right?” You said.
“Yup.”
“So let’s go!” you said as you ran out of the house and to the car. You unlocked the doors and went into the driver's seat. You then signaled Kirumi and Karito to go inside the car. They got the message and opened the door and went inside.
“So Kirumi do you know his address?” you asked.
“Yes I do. It’s Antagonist drive number 420”
“Oh okay thanks” you said. You put the address into google maps and followed the directions. You were very careless with driving which caused Karito to yell at you while you drove. But, finally you safely made it to Kokichi’s house. You stepped out of the car and walked along the path.
“By the way I lied he doesn’t live on Antagonist street number 420 he lives with Shuichi who lives on Protagonist street number 11037. When you were driving I secretly put Shuichi’s address instead” said Kirumi.
“Oh okay thanks” you said, not bothered at all. You, Kirumi and Karito went along the stone rock path towards the door of Shuichi’s house. You finally made it to the front. Since it was so quiet outside, you could hear something coming from the inside of the house. It sounded kind of like that one tik tok song from that one relationship trend but they couldn’t be doing… that, right?
“They sound busy. Should we go?” asked Karito.
“Nah we gotta see this” you said, wanting blackmail.
“But it is their personal business. I think it is best if we wait in the car.” said Kirumi.
“Okay.” You said.
You, Karito, and Kirumi waited in the car until you thought they were done with...whatever they were doing. You went back to the door and tried to listen for any other strange noises but couldn’t hear any so you decided to knock on the door. *Tok* *Tok* *Tok* And waited for a minute before the door opened to reveal Kokichi. Karito was behind you and he looked at Kokichi.
“Hey.” he said
“Uh hi. Who’re you and why do you look so emo like Shuichi?”
“I am you Kokichi.” he said ignoring the other question.
“Uh what?’
“What?”
“You don’t look or sound anything like me so how are you me?
“I am from an alternate universe and in order to open the portal up we need to hug.”
“Um ok..”
“Hey what’s going on?” Shuichi came from behind Kokichi.
“This guy says he’s me from an alternate universe and that we need to hug in order for him to go back.
“Oh okay” said Shuichi.
“Well hug you guys,” you said inching closer to them but then tripping and falling on your face.
“Pfft BAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHA,” Kokichi laughed.
“Clumsy humans,” said Karito.
“Be careful next time Aki,” said Kirumi.
“But I was,” you answered
“Well you weren’t careful enough,” Karito stepped closer to Kokichi and hugged him and disappeared.
“Wow that was fast,” said Kokichi.

“Hey guys i’m back” said Karito.
“Oh okay Karito.” said Kokichi
“Okay” You said.
“Okay then” said Kirumi.
“Let’s go to the beach!!” I said, very excited because I loved the beach and you lived close to the beach.
“Why?” said Karito who seemed very bored with life.
“Why not?”
“Why?”
“Why not?”
“Why?”
“Why not?”
“Why?”
“Why not?”
“Why not?”
“Why? Oh-”, I said. Karito laughed. For the very first time, he laughed. I looked at him, dumbfounded as I never knew he was capable of laughing. He looked at me confused and then as he realized he put his hood over his head and covered his face like he was some tsundere anime girl or something.
“What are you looking at?” he asked.
“I believe Aki is shocked because she has never heard you laugh like that before.” said Kirumi. Karito puffed his round chubby cheeks and looked away. We walked to the beach and saw many people there. Kokichi and Shuichi were wearing their swim shorts and went into the water.
“I have Covid” you said.
“What” said Karito
“Then you need to go to the hospital Aki” said Kirumi.
“Welp I guess you're dead” said Karito who looked like he didn’t give a f about anything
“That sucks.” You said, looking away disappointed.
“Should I call 911?” said Kirumi, a little more worried now.
“No” said Karito, “You know how much I hate those people right?”
“Sure” You said.
“I hope you won’t die then.” siad Kirumi. Suddenly, there was a loud and quick footsteps getting louder.
“DID SOMEONE SAY HOOOPE”. We looked over at the voice and saw a boy with fluffy white hair and pale skin who was only wearing swim shorts.
“Nagito not again!” said another boy with brown spiky looking hair.
