Work Text:
It’s a miracle when the company lets them have a week off during the holidays.
It’s the first time Minjeong celebrates her birthday and the new year in the comfort of her home in Busan with her members.
They let loose, cares and worries washed away by endless soju shots and glasses of beer.
Minjeong doesn’t know how exactly the topic comes up, her mind otherwise preoccupied by the suspicious way Aeri has her hand in Yizhuo’s lap.
“I just don’t get it.” Jimin shrugs casually. “I never understood why the fans see Minjeong and I like that.”
“You really don’t get it?” Aeri fires back incredulously. “Don’t tell me you never thought about it.”
Jimin shrugs again, and that’s when the conversation starts to click for Minjeong. “I agree with Jimin. I never understood either.”
“You two are so clueless.” Aeri mutters under her breath, earning a knowing giggle from Yizhuo. “Experimenting exists for a reason, you know. Yizhuo and I have made out plenty of times.”
Minjeong chokes on her own spit. Jimin’s eyes widen.
Yizhuo’s cackle echoes throughout the living room. “I think their brains just exploded. Maybe you guys should try it too.”
“Try what?!” Jimin all but screeches. “Why would we do that when we are just friends?”
Minjeong nods along drunkenly. “Just friends!” She clinks her freshly poured soju shot against Jimin’s empty glass of beer.
Hours later, Minjeong finds herself staring up at the ceiling from her childhood bed. This bed was only meant for a small child, but she feels a body shift closer to her.
“Minjeong, are you still awake?”
“Yes. Your loud breathing kept me up.”
Jimin ignores her complaint. “Aeri and Yizhuo are just friends, right? How can they do things with each other and feel normal about it after?”
It was a question that had Minjeong just as stumped. Even thinking about it after sobering up made her head hurt.
“I guess we’ll never know how they feel unless we try it for ourselves.”
She feels Jimin whip around to eye her in the dark. “What are you saying?”
“That we’ll never know unless we try it for ourselves?” Minjeong answers dumbly, like her words should’ve been self explanatory. “But it’s not like we would, so I guess we’ll just never know.”
Jimin sits up abruptly. Minjeong squints at her blurry figure. “What if we did? What if we tried it for ourselves?”
“Making out?”
“K-Kissing. Just a kiss.”
“Only so we can prove a point.” Minjeong sits up and turns on the light. “Are you still drunk?”
Jimin scowls. “Obviously. Otherwise I wouldn’t be entertaining this!” She lies. She was barely even drunk to begin with.
“Clearly, I’m still drunk too, agreeing to this nonsense.” Minjeong fibs back. “Alright. Come closer.”
“Me? Why do I have to go to you?”
Minjeong effortlessly wraps her arms around Jimin’s neck, successfully pulling her in closer. Something strange stirs within her chest at the sight of a breathless Jimin.
It all felt oddly natural.
“I’m sure you’ve kissed plenty of people before.” Minjeong muses softly, eyeing Jimin’s lips and her mole in the dim lighting of her room. She tilts her head, licking her own lips in preparation for what’s to come.
“Honestly, I haven’t—“
Minjeong cuts her off, pressing her mouth against Jimin’s incredibly soft plush lips.
Uh oh.
She stills, neither of them making a single move. It almost feels like a million years has passed until Jimin pulls away. “W-Wow.”
Minjeong still has her eyes closed, not quite sure if she could face Jimin after what just happened. “Point proven.”
“What was the point we were trying to prove again?” Jimin mumbles incoherently, leaning back in to sweep Minjeong up in a breathtaking kiss.
The next morning, Minjeong wakes up to her arms wrapped around Jimin’s waist. Big spoon, of course.
She smiles at the older girl’s light snores and cute pout, kissing her shoulder as she snuggled closer.
Oh. Oh.
It finally makes sense.
