Work Text:

The coach shed was silent, save for a few creaks caused by strong winds outside hitting the building. It was dark outside and inside, the room being almost pitch black and void of colour. And Wrench was wide awake.

She had stayed the night at Belle's yet again (as she now did most nights), the sleeping car currently being fast asleep. The two of them had their arms wrapped around the other, legs slightly tangled also. But, despite how comfortable she was, Wrench just couldn't fall asleep.

She felt like she had been extremely unproductive during the day, and it was playing on her mind. She still got work done, but she felt like it wasn't enough. Wrench knew that Belle didn't like her overworking herself, but she figured that this would be for the greater good. Maybe getting a little more work done would help her get to sleep? She knew there wasn't much logic behind the thought, but she ignored that.

Her laptop was sitting on a counter in the kitchen, all she needed to was get up briefly and do a little extra work. The kitchen wasn't far from Belle's room, she would probably be a few minutes at most. Belle wouldn't even realise she was gone, and she wouldn't even be gone that long anyways. What harm could doing a little extra work even cause?

So, she untangled herself from Belle slowly, watching her closely should she begin to stir. Once she knew that Belle was still asleep, she stood up hesitatingly, being careful to avoid making the floor creak as it so often did.

She made her way out of the room as quietly as she could, checking over her shoulder every so often to double check that Belle was still asleep. Wrench was honestly amazed at how effortlessly gorgeous Belle was, even when she was asleep she looked graceful. After standing and admiring her for a few minutes (definitely only to make sure she wouldn't wake up) she skated down the hallway to the kitchen, being extra quiet to avoid waking up the shed's other inhabitants.

Belle woke up gradually, suddenly feeling a lot colder than she had been before. The reason for this made itself clear relatively quickly, as she woke up to empty arms and an empty bed. Where was Wrench?

Usually if there was an emergency, Wrench would wake her up to tell her she had to go, or at the very least leave a note, but neither of those had happened as far as she could tell. This left a slight pit in Belle’s stomach, the emptiness of the bed almost swallowing her whole. What if something bad had happened and she wasn't awake to help? She knew that Wrench would've woken her up should something that bad actually happen, but the possibility was still there nonetheless. She had to check around the coach shed, just to make sure she wasn't there. There was no point panicking if she was.

Rubbing the sleep out of her eyes, Belle got out of her now cold (but still surprisingly comfortable) bed, slightly shivering at the room somehow being even colder. She grabbed one of the smaller blankets from her bed, and wrapped it around her shoulders. It didn't make a lot of difference, but it still brought her a little comfort.

Slowly, to avoid making too much noise and waking anyone, she opened her door and stepped out into the hallway. Almost immediately, she noticed a faint glow emanating from the kitchen down the hall. She sighed.

Of course Wrench woke up to do more work, she had to practically drag her away from doing anything extra earlier. She had already finished her day's work and a little more, yet she still insisted on doing more and more. It wasn't good for her, especially now that it was interrupting her and Belle's sleep (and cuddling).

Belle made her way down the hallway, and turned the corner to reveal that her suspicions were true. Wrench was sat at the small kitchen counter on one of the stools focused solely on her laptop screen, probably doing some form of paper work or something similar. Where Belle was stood she was still shrouded in darkness, meaning that Wrench hadn't noticed her yet. Perfect, she could catch her off guard.

She moved through the shadows, the subtle noise of typing being the only thing that could be heard. Wrench looked exhausted even from where Belle was standing, and it made her feel so sad for her. She wished that she didn't overwork herself; Belle did admire how dedicated she was, sure, but not when it became unhealthy.

She continued moving closer to Wrench, until she was only a mere couple of feet away from her back. She was surprised she hadn't been noticed yet, Wrench was usually pretty observant. She inched closer and closer, until she was pretty much directly behind her, being able to clearly see what she was doing now

As suspected, it was indeed paper work, one of the ones that made Belle feel like an idiot with how complicated they were. She was starting to feel tired again just looking at it, she needed to get herself and Wrench back to bed. So, she raised the blanket previously on her shoulders over Wrench's head, and dropped it.

Wrench's train of thought was instantly interrupted as she struggled getting the blanket off of her head. Belle had never seen Wrench like this, she was usually so composed, but she remained serious as she finally got it off of her head and whipped around on the stool to see the culprit. As Wrench saw her, her eyes widened.

"Belle? I thought you were asleep," Wrench said, with a hint of sheepishness in her tone that Belle was pretty sure she had never heard before, at least coming from her.

"I was, but then someone decided to get up and do extra, unnecessary work and make me cold," Belle replied with an accusatory tone, and she could practically hear the cogs turning in Wrench's brain as she thought of a response.

"I couldn't sleep, I thought it would help," she finally admitted, muttering as she averted her gaze. Belle picked up her face by the chin, meeting Wrench's eyes.

"And you thought doing more work would help because…?" Belle asked, in a more loving and less accusing way than she did before.

"I thought that maybe if I got more done I would feel less stressed, it feels like I got nothing done today." Belle felt guilty for a second, before she remembered how much Wrench had actually done before she had gotten a hold of her.

"Wrench, you do more work than the whole yard combined. You deserve a rest just like anyone else. You got so much done today, I promise," Belle dropped Wrench's face, which still stayed facing hers. She looked so tired, if there was any time she needed to rest this was definitely one of them. She glanced at the laptop screen and back at Belle a couple of times, before sighing.

"…I guess so." Wrench muttered.

"No, you know so. Come back to bed Wrench, otherwise I'll be lonely. And cold." This was true, but she played it up a little to try and convince her even more. By the looks of it, it was working. Wrench twiddled her thumbs from where her hands were resting on her thighs, weighing the options in her head.

"And I'll make sure you fall asleep," Belle added last minute, hoping it was enough to convince her.

"…Okay," Wrench agreed after a few seconds of silence. Belle internally celebrated as Wrench turned around to turn her laptop off, making sure to save whatever she was working on. As she turned around, Belle held up her hand for her to take. Wrench obliged, holding it tight. The two slowly made their way down the hallway, still holding each other's hands.

When they reached it, Belle held her room's door open for Wrench, who entered and made her way to the bed. Belle followed, and they both crawled into the bed on their respective sides. Almost immediately, they were tangled together once more, Belle resting her head just under Wrench's chin.

"Thank you for coming back," Belle said quietly and sleepily, tracing circles on Wrench's back and pressing a small kiss on her jaw.

"Mmm," Wrench made a content hum, already being almost fully overcome by sleep. They stayed in the silence of the room, Belle continuing to trace circles on Wrench's back. She fought to stay awake, just until Wrench fell asleep fully. She didn't want to wake up to an empty bed again.

The room soon filled with only the sounds of their breath, Belle feeling Wrench’s chest rising and falling as she laid there. Her breaths soon slowed and evened out, and Belle heard her heartbeat become slower. Wrench was asleep.

She smiled to herself as she let her eyes close also, arms still tight around Wrench. She was glad Wrench was finally able to get some sleep, maybe she would be able to convince her to take a longer break tomorrow.
