Work Text:

Leone hadn’t been away for too long, just his average day at work; no night shift or anything tonight. The evening was peaceful and quiet and he couldn’t wait to curl up under his duvet and drift to sleep.

The apartment was seemingly deserted when Leone opened the door, no sign of Bruno in the kitchen or at the table. It was dark, too; the kids must’ve been asleep already.

“I’m home,” Leone called quietly just in case someone was here. Bruno muttered a little, “welcome home” from the sofa and waved slightly. Leone sighed with a soft smile, hung his jacket up and set down his briefcase. He walked over to the sofa and slid down beside his husband, who was watching something on a very low volume on the TV. “How was work?” Bruno asked Leone with a smile, leaning into the hand that raised to play with a strand of his hair. “It was fine,” Leone said. “A bunch of officers were out of the office so barely anyone was even in there. You’ll never guess what happened at lunchtime, though. It was after I got back from-“ Leone had begun to tell a rather amusing anecdote from his day, when his words faltered by the sight of two small children lying asleep beside Bruno on the sofa; one with blond hair, one with pink. “Bruno, who are these kids on our sofa?” Bruno had taken his eyes completely off of Leone by this point, letting them focus extra hard on the sea life documentary that was on the TV.  “Where did you get them from?” Leone sighed deeply, standing up and coming around to sit beside the sleeping kids. “They were both alone on the edge of the path I was walking down after lunch. I couldn’t just leave them there, what did you want me to do?”

“Call the police? Call social services?” Bruno shrugged innocently. Leone laughed; what could he do? This had already happened three other times before. “At least they’re both cute.” Bruno beamed and Leone stroked the first child’s blond hair. It was soft and coiled in little rolls around his forehead. The second child had pink hair that also curled adorably over her forehead, both their faces peaceful with sleep.

Suddenly, three other children came into the living room and pulled themselves up on the sofa. Except these children Leone knew very well. Narancia climbed up into Leone’s lap and smiled big and adorable, full of life and joy like he always was. Mista and Fugo squashed themselves between Bruno and Leone too, leaving room for the new twins to keep sleeping peacefully. Leone watched Bruno beam as they leaned their heads towards him and snuggled closer into his side, watched the utter joy on his face grow. Leone would never complain about the growing number of children Bruno would adopt for eternity; the pure love on his face for the children he took in out of the goodness of his own heart was more important than any petty disagreements they would ever have. Leone knew that Bruno wanted to make sure these poor children got all the love in the world, and so who was he to stop it? He edged closer to the huddle of the family with Narancia still curled on his lap, and he was pulled in closer. Leone felt like the luckiest man alive.
