"My sweet Adder needs to be more careful", Janosh said while dressing Adder's wound.
"I wouldn't be if you had dodged that swing", Adder argued.
"Mmm, and you jumped between us like a knight to save a princess."
"You're the ugliest princess I have ever seen."
"Always so well-mannered, like rabid dog."
"Well, it's your fault I have this wound. It hurts."
Janosh finished and pressed his hand to Adder's bare chest.
"Why did you do it?" He asked, letting his thumb brush Adder's skin.
"Why do you think?"
Janosh smiled sadly, wishing the other man would say the words. But maybe he didn't have those words under his skin like Janosh had. Maybe to him this was just… no, it wouldn't be "just". It would be something that Janosh could live with.
Janosh took a wet rag and washed blood from Adder's skin. He complained that he was just wounded, not invalid, and could clean himself, but Janosh didn't let him. When he was done, he headed to Adder's chest to find a clean shirt for him. He opened the chest and instantly noticed something he had almost forgotten. He took it and turned around.
"You kept this?" He asked and showed Adder a small ring made of hay Janosh had once made when Adder and he had been bored. He had put it on Adder's left middle finger after noticing it was too small for him.
"Yes", Adder answered. Janosh smiled. He took Adder's hand, raised it to his lips, and kissed it. Adder gasped. Janosh slipped the ring to Adder's finger, but not to the middle one this time. He put it on the left ring finger.
"Will you keep me?" Janosh asked. Adder nodded. Janosh kissed him.
