A Domain That Was Meant To Be Shared

Summary:

Ares reminisces about his faded twin sister Enyo.

Work Text:

Ares recalled his twin sister Enyo, even if the memories were starting to fade because of the long time that had passed. He recalled her laugh, how she joked, how great she was at stabbing people.

Ares sighed, as more memories dwelled to the surface of his mind. He also remembered how clear it had been when they were born, that Enyo wasn't as powerful as him. She didn't have the strength of an Olympian, nor the relevance, and Ares vividly remembered the day when she finally faded.

Both of them had still been young, not more than 300 years old. For decades, Enyo had been growing weaker and weaker until the day finally came. Ares recalled looking her in the eyes one last time, when she was barely more than a whisper of the wind. He recalled saying goodbye before taking a domain for his own that was never meant to be fully his, a domain that was meant to be shared.

Ares had grieved, Ares had moved on, and then Athena had barged in, claiming War as if it was nothing. At least the Romans had righted that wrong. Athena had been pushed away from his domain, and Enyo had returned as Bellona. It was a comforting thought that Enyo was here again, even if it was only in her Roman form.
