Chapter Text
HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY
“Hi, my name is Riley Hogan. I’m 16 years old, I’m a student at (*bleeps the name of the school out*) High School… and I’m just your average guy-next-door to be honest? Well if you exclude that I’m pregnant”, the boy chuckles.
*Riley, 10 weeks pregnant*
“I live with my mom, Jessica, my stepdad, Tyrone, and my little half-sisters, Ashley and Alison.”
“What about your dad?”, the producer asks.
“My dad is just not in the picture. When he found out my mom was pregnant he refused to take any responsibility and just left for God-knows-where. I was raised by my stepdad so he’s my real dad”, the boy says.
Then he chuckles, “It’s funny because my mom wasn’t much older than me when she got pregnant. She was 19 when I was born. So I guess it’s in our genes”.
“How was dealing with the hardships of being 19, pregnant and without any help from the father of your child?”, the producer asks Jessica, Riley’s 35-year-old mother.
“Needless to say it wasn’t a cakewalk. I was in college when I got pregnant and I had to drop out to start taking care of Riley. Don’t get me wrong, I love my son. But I do regret not being more responsible. Luckily my parents didn’t turn their backs on me and helped me with everything and then I met Tyrone”, she ends her answer with a fond smile.
“Riley was 3 when me and Jessica started dating. She arranged a meeting between us almost a year into our relationship. So I like to think I’ve always been part of his life”, Riley’s stepdad, Tyrone, 41, smiles.
“How did you react when your son told you he was pregnant?”, the producer asks the couple individually.
“I obviously thought he was joking because I mean he’s my son so I have seen his privates! But then I remembered that some men actually can get pregnant, even though it’s an extremely rare phenomenon so I booked an appointment with the doctor who then just confirmed my worries”, Jessica answers.
“Worries?”, the producer asks.
“Yeah. I mean it was hard for me, a 19-year-old girl, so it will be harder for a 16-year-old boy. So I’m worried.”
“So did you freak out when the doctor confirmed the pregnancy?”, the producer continued.
“Oh boy, I did! It was like reliving my first checkup when the doctor confirmed my pregnancy back in the day. Only I was now reliving it from my mother’s point of view… God, I felt like fainting. To know that your child who is still literally a child is having a baby is… so strange”, Jessica answers.
“Well Riley told his mom before me and I was unaware of the whole thing till they came back home from the doctor’s appointment and dropped the bomb. I was incredulous at first because c’mon, ‘your son is pregnant?’ Who’s ever gonna believe that?”, Tyrone replies.
“We both accepted it as soon as we knew though. His mom has been through it before so she may be a little more upset about the whole thing but I think she’s also very understanding”, he continues.
“What about you? Are you understanding like her?”, the producers asks.
“I definitely am and don’t blame my son. I do blame the man who took advantage of him though”, Tyrone says with a very serious expression.
“Would you like to present yourself?”
“Oh yeah, sorry”, the nervous and awkward young man apologises, “Okay so hi, my name is Hakim Khan. I’m 17 years old and I’m a student at (*bleeps the name of the school out*) High School. My favorite subjects are math and science and I’m looking forward to becoming a software engineer. I like playing video games and watching sci-fi movies. My favorite movies are the original Star Wars ones and my favorite tv show is Star Trek. I also enjoy non-nerdy stuff though! Like soccer!”
“…and would you also like to explain why you’re here?”, the producer asks.
“Oh yeah, right!”, the young man facepalms his forehead maybe with a little too much strength, “Um yeah so,… me and Riley go to the same school and we’ve known each other for two years now. We clicked pretty soon as he also likes sci-fi movies. He’s a very nice guy. Very beautiful too. I’ve always liked his red hair and his big brown eyes. Oh and his smile too. He’s got some really nice white teeth, doesn’t he?”, the boy daydreams.
“…and what happened between you and Riley that is the reason why you’re here now?”, the patient producer asks hoping that Hakim would finally get what they’re talking about.
“Oh yeah right!”, the boy finally seems to understand.
“Um… so I think I knocked him up?”, the boy proposes.
HILO, HAWAII
“Hello, nice to meet you! My name is Drew Lee and I’m 17 years old and pregnant with my first child”, the boy rubs his belly as evidence.
*Drew, 16 weeks pregnant*
“Do you still attend classes at school?”, the producer asks.
“Well I try to”, Drew laughs, “this little guy in here kinda decides when I’m feeling good enough to go to school”, he says while still rubbing his belly.
“Oh so you already know the gender? Is it a boy?”, he asks, pretending not to know that carriers of the pregnant man gene can only have sons anyway.
Drew stares at the camera, “I don’t like officially know that yet but I just know I’m carrying a boy. Guess I’ve got those maternal instincts or something?”, he doesn’t wait for an answer, “Cool”. His answer leaves no doubt about his ignorance regarding the condition.
Still the producer chooses not to tell him.
“How did you react when you found out your son was pregnant?”, the producer asks Drew’s parents.
“We did not take it very well obviously. He should’ve been more careful. We have raised both him and his sister to be responsible people and we are very disappointed in him. However we won’t leave him alone on this”, replied Drew’s mother, Wendi, 46.
“Your parents don’t seem to be thrilled about the idea of becoming grandparents so soon. What do you think about their reaction to the news?”, the producer asks.
Drew takes a little time for himself to think before answering, “I totally get why they’re mad at me. ‘I should’ve been careful’ and yada yada yada. I didn’t plan to have a baby but now that I am in this situation I can only take my responsibilities and try my best to be a good parent to him. Maybe the timing is too soon but we cannot plan life to go a certain way and they haven’t understood that yet.”
“Although we have raised him with good strong values, he has always been pretty rebellious. He would often do the exact opposite of what we told him to do just for the sake of spiting us and he has never really listened to us and the advises and tips we still try to give him. As his parents, we naturally love him but he’s just so stubborn… if only he was just a bit like his sister we wouldn’t have to deal with a pregnant son now!”, Drew’s dad, Tom, 50, says.
“Your parents seem to hold you sister in high regard. Can you tell us more about her?”, the producer asks.
A clearly annoyed Drew rolls his eyes and replies, “Emily has always been the favorite child, mommy and daddy’s little princess. She’s always been good at anything and everything and my parents are very proud of her, especially after she got that scholarship to study at Stanford. My parents just like to compare us a lot because I’m the opposite of her.”
“What’s your relationship with her like?”
“She acts like she’s better than me and never misses a chance to remind me of that. Now that I’m pregnant she will never stop using this to mock me for the rest of my life”, the boy says.
“So you don’t get along?”, the producer asks.
“No, not really. I mean she’s my sister and I know she doesn’t hate me and I for sure don’t hate her but our relationship would be much better if she weren’t a f(*bleep*)ing c(*bleep*)nt all the time.”
“Tell me about the baby’s father. Does he know? Is he happy to become a father?”
“Yes, of course he knows! But I told him not long ago because I knew he wouldn’t take it very well.”
“My name is Keoni Hale. I’m 19 years old and I’m a college student. I’m the father of Drew Lee’s baby”, says the young man with a neutral face, but one could clearly perceive the discomfort when he pronounced those last words.
“How did you and Drew meet?”, asks the producer.
“Four-ish months ago we met at a frat party on my campus and we drank a lot of booze which led us to this sticky situation”, the young man says.
“You don’t seem very happy about it, do you?”
“Why would I? I’m becoming a father at 19 and my child will not even come out of a vagina!”, the young man responded finally losing his cool.
“Well didn’t you know that there are many men in the world that can get pregnant?”
“I did but I’m not gay! I don’t swing that way.”
“…yet you still slept with another guy and made a child with him.”
“I was drunk for f(*bleep*)’s sake! I’m outta here!”, Keoni said before storming out the room.
ORLANDO, FLORIDA
“Hey y’all! My name’s Alexis Rivera and I’m the hottest pregnant 18-year-old you’ll ever meet!”, says the smiley boy while holding his noticeably big stomach.
*Alexis, 20 weeks pregnant*
“How did you take the news of your son’s pregnancy?”, the producer asks.
“The pregnant man gene runs in my family so I’ve always known there may be possibilities that my son would also have it”, Alexis’s mother, Yanina, 47, says.
“So you weren’t surprised?”
The woman answers almost immediately, “I was surprised but in the same way your daughter would come to you and tell you she’s pregnant, you know? The fact that he’s a pregnant boy didn’t surprise me.”
“Your brother is having your mother’s sixth grandchild, is that right?”, the producer asks Yennyfer, Alexis’s sister, 25.
“Yes, he is. Me and our sister Yoselín have two kids each and our brother Wilmar has one kid”, she replies smiling.
“You guys also had your children pretty young, am I right?”
“Yoselín had her first kid at 17 and her second at 22. Wilmar had his kid at 19. And I was 24 when I had my twins, last year”.
“So your mother is pretty understanding of Alexis, right?”
Yennyfer cringed before replying, “I think she’s trying to metabolize the whole thing in her own way but she’s definitely not happy about it. I mean she kicked him out the house and now he’s living at my place”.
“Why did you kick your son out? Especially in his current state?”, the producer asks Yanina.
“Because he needs to understand that his actions have consequences; you s(*bleep*)t around, you find yourself pregnant! It’s that simple! Karma is a b(*bleep*)tch!
If he wants to be an adult, it’s time he acts like one!”
“Your mother doesn’t seem supportive of you. What do you think about it?”, the producer asks Alexis.
“Look, when I finally had the courage to tell her, I knew she wouldn’t be like ‘that’s great mijito, I’m happy for you and so supportive’ but I honestly didn’t expect her to kick me out. Like do you call yourself a mother after that? Leaving your pregnant teenage son to fend for himself? She’s dead to me”, the boy said.
“What about your father?”, the producer asks.
“He knows but he doesn’t give a f(*bleep*). Not like he ever showed any interest in me in the first place. When I told him he was like ‘okay’ and everything’s been the same ever since; I see him like once every two weeks like I always do and that’s it.”
“I understand your parents are no longer together?”
“No, they broke up when I was like 7 after my dad cheated. Also, in case you’re wondering, he’s only my dad. My sisters and brother have a different father.”
“What about your baby’s father?”, the producer asks.
“He’s tall and handsome and a d(*bleep*)head but he knows how to be sweet sometimes.”, Alexis says with a smile.
“I was talking about how he took the news?”, the producer offers.
“Oh… I think he’s very happy about this whole thing!”
“Get the f(*bleep*) outta here, I said!”, the young man shouts, trying to cover the camera with his hands.
“Aren’t you DeShaun Wayne? Alexis Rivera’s baby’s father?”, they try to ask him.
“I said leave me the f(*bleep*) alone! I didn’t sign to be part of this s(*bleep*) like that lil’ b (*bleep*) wants me to! F (*bleep*)ng respect my privacy!”, the young man says before taking the camera and throwing it to the ground, breaking it.
