Chapter Text

“Sam, I know we said that we would do it, that we would put all the effort into it, but I don’t think that's what I want anymore.” The 18-year-old girl said. “I love you, I really do. But I need to put all of my focus on school, I need to do well in school, and I don’t think I can put all of my focus there if we are still together.”

“A-Are you trying to break up with me Sunday?” Sam asked, eyes wide with surprise. “I thought we were good. I mean you did the whole surprise party and everything.”

“Not trying Sam, I am breaking up with you. Plus…” Sunday paused. “I-I’ve met someone.”

“W-What do you mean you met someone? You say you are breaking up with me because you don’t want a distraction from school, but say you like someone else? Sunday, did you cheat on me?” Sam stepped back, betrayal written all over her face.

“I- no I didn’t. But I want to be with her. Sam we’ve been together for so long, I don’t see a future for us, I don’t.”

“What the hell do you mean? How can’t you see a future for us! You can’t just spring this bullsh*t on me!” Sam yelled. “You said you loved me…You promised Sunday! Why can’t you give us another try?!”

“No Samantha! I already told you! I can’t do this, this is not an argument, we’re done. I’m done.” Sunday turned around walking away from her now ex-girlfriend.

“Fine! I don’t need you anyway Sunday! Go f*ck yourself!” Sam screamed as Sunday walked away. Sam raced back to her car as the two had met at a local McDonalds to talk. Once in her car, Sam started bawling her eyes out, sitting there till midnight. At this point the parking lot was almost empty except for the workers cleaning up. Sam was about to fall asleep, but then heard a knock on her window.

“Sam…are you okay?” Sam opened her door and stepped out of the car. It was obvious she had been crying.

“She dumped me Carlos, she dumped me. I don’t know what to do. We had all these plans for our future. We had a planned trip for next summer to go to Florida and-”
“Hey hey hey, everything will be alright Sammy. Come here.” Carlos said, holding Sam in an embrace. “She’s an idiot for breaking up with you, but it’s probably for the best. Look at the bright side, now when you get to school, you won't have anything extra to worry about.” He said, trying to cheer up his sister.

“Carlos, I love her, I wouldn’t have cared to have her as a distraction.”

“I know you do, but you need to let go. Personally I think you’re too good for her. You’ll find someone better, I just know it. Let me drive you home, you’re in no condition to drive.” Sam just nodded her head, she had no more words to speak.

The car drive home was quiet except for the faint sound of the radio playing songs. The two walked inside through the garage quietly, thinking their parents would be asleep, but both stopped dead in their tracks when they heard voices.

“Me sorprende que realmente lo haya hecho, ¿qué le ofreciste Andrea? (I’m surprised she really did it, what did you offer her Andrea?)”

“Simplemente la convencí de que estaba condenando a nuestra chica al infierno, Gabriel. Podría haber agregado unos cientos de dólares, pero bueno, el hecho de que haya aceptado este trato demuestra quién es ella. (I simply convinced her that she was damning our girl to hell Gabriel. I might have added a few hundred dollars, but hey, her taking this deal shows just who she is.)” Sam couldn’t hold back her anger from hearing the words come from her mother’s mouth, so she stormed into the room that her parents were talking in.

“Are you f*cking serious mother? You’re the reason Sunday broke up with me? Do you really hate me that much? You are a horrible mother, if anyone can even call you that.” With that, Sam ran to her room and started packing her bags. She called a friend to pick her up and take her to her car. Once the friend got there, Sam took her stuff without a word and left with her friend.

A Week Before

----------

Her 18th birthday seemed to be a bust, no one seemed to remember, except her brother, though they shared the same day so that would be hard to forget. Not even her girlfriend wished her a happy birthday. Carlos took Sam out to get a celebratory little ice cream, but when the two came back home the door was cracked, Carlos told Sam to wait while he checked it out, and a few moments later he cleared it.

“Everything is fine here Sam, you can come in.” Sam was confused why Carlos didn’t turn on the light, but just shrugged and went inside, jumping at a noise.

“Happy birthday babe!” Sunday cheered, multiple people coming out from hiding places and screaming surprise. Sam was shocked, Sunday had gathered their closest friends for a surprise birthday party.

“Wow! Guys you didn’t have to do this for me!” Sam said. Sunday ran up to her and kissed her on the cheek.

“Of course we did babe. You deserve the world.” She said with a bright smile.

“You are amazing, you know that right?” Sam said, before pulling Sunday in for a kiss. “Let’s get this party started!” Sam yelled after pulling away.

The part was going well, everyone dancing, talking, playing games. Everything seemed perfect, everything was going as planned. But near the middle of the party Sunday was pulled aside by Sam’s mother, Andrea.

“You know Sunday, the longer you two are together, the deeper she is bound to go to hell. Do you really want that for her? If you really love her you’ll let her go, you’ll only hold her back. Plus, if you break up with her, I’ll give you $500, that could help with the burden of college, think about it.” Andrea said, then walked away. Sunday was stuck in shock with what her girlfriend’s mother had just said. She was so confused that she left early, giving the excuse that her mother was yelling at her to go home.

Once she got home she kept replaying what was said. She wanted to do what was best for Sam, and if that meant breaking up with her, she was willing to do it. And that $500 would be good for college. So she came to the conclusion that she would break up with Sam, she just needed to figure out how.

After Sam Left (At College)

----------

“Why hello there, pretty lady, what's your name?” A man with dark brown hair and green eyes asked Sam.

“I don’t know if I should tell you, you seem awfully drunk.” Sam said, narrowing her eyes.

“Well why don’t you get drunk with me?” The man suggested. Sam thought for a moment, any other night and she would have shooed the man away, but earlier that day the man she was dating had dumped her, so she was feeling pretty crappy.

“If you’re paying, then I’m down.”

“Splended, hey bartender, whatever she wants is on my tab yeah?” The bartender rolled her eyes, but nodded. Sam drank a ton after that, right to the point where she couldn’t see straight. The two ended up at Sam’s apartment that night, but the man was gone by the morning. Neither of the two actually learned the other’s name.

The days after were weird for Sam, she kept throwing up in the morning but couldn’t tell why. But then one of her friends told her that she should take a pregnancy test, so she did, but just as a joke, until she saw the double lines. That night she called the one person she had been dodging calls from for two years.

“Carlos…I messed up.”
