Oakie stood there, fist clenched so hard that if he had the presence of mind, he might’ve worried about his bark cracking. But that wasn’t at the forefront of his mind as tears gathered in the corners of his eyes.
Joanie was in front of him, pacing and ranting. There was a ringing in Oakies ears, allowing only some of her cruel words to reach him as he desperately tried not to break down.
Half an hour ago Oakie had brought Otto over to meet Joanie. It had taken weeks for Oakie to finally work up the courage to introduce his boyfriend to Joanie, only for all his worst fears to come true.
She had kicked Otto out, and Oakie had stood there, all but trying to hide in his shell, and let it happen.
He wanted to scream, cry, run away, his insides felt like a turbulent storm threatening to rip him apart and leaving him disoriented. Unsure how to act. Unsure how to fix this.
“God are you even listening to me Oakie!” Screamed Joanie, breaking through his internal conflict.
He slowly lifted his eyes to look at her, but couldn’t force any words to come out of his parted lips.
Joanie scoffed at his, slapping her hands down at her side.
“You know what, just go back to your room, I can’t even stand to look at you right now.” Joanie seethed.
Feeling like a passenger in his own body, Oakie did as she asked. Slow steps back to his room, eyes cast down.
How had everything gone so wrong. How would he ever be able to fix everything.
