Reflection

Summary:

Miyoshi Yuta will always be there for her sister, even if she is weak.

Notes:

This is the forty-seventh in a series of drabbles inspired by the fic Fundamental Theorem of Heroics, a My Hero Academia inspired fic. If you want to be alerted when new ones come out, make sure to go to the series page for Fundamental Theorem of Drabbles located in the information box at the top, across from the "Series" tag, then subscribe to the entire series.

This is part of a fun little event on the discord where we get a new prompt every day until Halloween.

The prompt is the title of the drabble.

Who better to look at on Halloween than one of the nastier children at the orphanage?

Miyoshi Yuta is the older sister of Kei. She has the ability to make someone basically hallucinate a kind of living nightmare that appears before them by touch, but she doesn't have a say in what they see. Her sister Kei does, having been both with more control.

Shinsou meets Yuta at the orphanage when he returns in his third year of junior high and, after watching her continually bully other children, her own sister included, and after another bad day, Shinsou punches her.

It's not a great look for our protagonist, but the look on Yuta's face was pretty priceless.

Check out the end of chapter 165 for the epic punch.

The time is nebulous.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-

When she saw her sister, she saw everything she never wanted to be.

Brittle

Spineless

Unwilling to take what was hers

She was so naive.

Her quirk could leave people bent to her will.

For Yuta, it was the luck of the draw.

But Kei?

She only needed to learn their hopes.

Their dreams!

Their fears…

People were pliable

Not to be trusted

Yuta had made sure her sister didn’t know the feeling of something rigid and inflexible as it slammed into your back and crushed your spirit.

When they weren’t here, when the orphanage was a distant memory while they lay in a dingy office converted into a makeshift room for the next foster family to make a few yen, Yuta was the only one standing between the anger of an adult who’d had one too many beers and lost more than they’d gained.

Perhaps next time, she would slink into the shadows, so Kei would understand.

They'd been gifted the ability to make them see the consequences of their shortcomings.

Her sister has far too many.

All they had were their quirks.

All they had was an impending doom that kept them fed and housed.

All Kei had was her.

Notes:

I originally thought I would look at Kei for this piece, but Yuta made so much more sense once I started to write it. I always like looking at villain's perspective to see what their goals are and the impetus for their actions. I think Yuta is absolutely a dreadful girl, but even the most dreadful may try to protect the one connection they have to something called "family".
