Work Text:
The smile of the waitress is clearly forced, and he can’t blame her.
“I’m sorry, that’s out of stock, too.”
“Um…”
He meets Mamoru’s gaze, and it’s clear the older boy doesn’t know how to react either.
“Could you give us a few more minutes to think, then?”
“Of course.”
As soon as she leaves, Mamoru tries to bow to him. “I’m sorry, Ken-kun! I thought this would be a good option, but I was wrong! We can totally leave!”
Kensuke takes a deep breath, looking around.
“It’s not your fault, Mamoru-senpai. You didn't know that they were going to be with a shortage of coffee and run out of the trending things…”
They were told about it when they entered, but the situation seemed worse and worse after they accepted.
“I’m sorry for the date…”
“No! I’m happy to spend time with you anyway. Again, this is not your fault, Mamoru-senpai~”
Even if he said that, it was obvious that Mamoru was still feeling down.
While it had his charm, he didn’t want to see his sad expression.
“Why don’t we buy some cookies and walk around? Or we could go to my house! Mom and dad are working and nee-chan has classes, so we can play games together in the living room!”
“Eh, would that be okay?”
“Of course!”
It’s still all very new, though. He’s not sure of how couples work, so the closest thing he had as a reference was Ryota, who had been dating Koki since the start of the year, and they did go to each other's houses, so…
It doesn’t take long for them to reach it, and he’s just a little annoyed that he didn’t properly fix his room like his mother had told him to do before, when he takes a little too long trying to unplug his game console from his TV to bring it to the one in the living room.
When he comes back, he can’t help but laugh as Mamoru was stiff on the couch, looking in front of him.
Even if he was older, Mamoru admitted to him that he didn’t have such close experience of interacting with others, so usually ended up being the one sort of leading the interactions.
In his opinion, it added to Mamoru’s charms.
“Mamoru?”
“Yes?!”
“You can take off the jacket, you know?”
“Ah!”
"You could’ve gotten more water, too. The jar is right here~ I’ll make coffee to make up for the one we couldn’t get earlier, do you want one?”
“Yes, please!”
“With milk?”
“And three sugars!”
“Got it. Why don’t you look if any game catches your attention? You can filter multiplayer in my library.”
“Okay!”
When he’s done, Mamoru hasn’t picked any game, since he keeps asking about each of the stories.
Kensuke is happy to explain them to him, and when they finally decide on one, the coffee is already finished.
It helps for them to focus on it, until a particular hard level that takes them multiple tries to clear.
There was nothing in particular that made it different from other days, but when he realized midway how close Mamoru was, he couldn’t help but reach for a kiss, making him turn red before replying to it.
Kissing Mamoru made him feel warm. He could only remember the taste of their first kiss, not that long ago, when they went out for ice cream when summer was ending… Mamoru had gotten chocolate and dropped it on his shirt, and after trying to clean it, they had to work together, hurrying to eat it before it melted totally. Kensuke had helped him clean his face, before leaning for a small kiss that was responded to.
“Mh… Ken-kun-”
It just wasn’t enough. There were so many expressions that Mamoru could make that he wanted to know, so much he wanted to do with him, and yet they had so little time…
“Just what do you think you’re doing, Kensuke?”
Sadly, that was not the voice of his boyfriend.
Feeling his blood cold, he turns around.
“Nee-chan?! Why are you- Weren’t you supposed to come home later?!”
“Well, yes, and you’re not supposed to be kissing a boy on our couch, but here we are.”
“I- I’m sorry for intruding!”
“Nope, you’re good. When were we going to know about this, Kensuke?”
“... It’s not any of your business, Kira-nee.”
“It is very much my business when I’m the one who finds out?! You damn brat, what do you think mom and dad are going to say?!”
All that moment is broken, and he’s only left alone after dinner. Mamoru had left in a rush before his parents got home, and he didn’t blame him. Both his parents wanted to talk with him, and he’s sure that his sister was enjoying it, until they had to be separated by their parents because they were fighting, and then again at dinner.
While he’s happy that they didn’t seem to have any problem, he’s still annoyed that they didn’t let him handle the situation like he would’ve wanted.
But, once he's finally alone in his room after showering, he picks up his phone, calling his boyfriend.
They would always text or call before bed, so he’s happy to know that Mamoru wasn’t already holed up in his room doing homework, as he replies to him rather quickly.
“Sorry. Seems like today’s date just wasn’t meant to be.”
“It’s okay. I had my own fun… Though I’m totally going to apologize to your family!”
“It’s fine… They were just wanting to tease me for a while, I’m sure. Let’s forget about it. Is it okay if I pass to get you a little earlier tomorrow? I was thinking we could walk to school…”
“Yeah. I would like that.”
“Great. I’ll text you, then!”
“Okay! I’m going to sleep! See you tomorrow, Ken-kun!”
Mamoru lingers on the call for a little longer, and he doesn’t process it until the call is over, that Mamoru had sent him a kiss over the phone.
He could imagine his red face, wanting to forget it as he hid in bed… And while his cheeks were red, too. He couldn't help but feel his grin getting bigger and bigger.
“Mamoru-senpai, you’re older than me and yet you’re so cute… I can’t wait for tomorrow.”
“Ken-chan, come help me here!”
“I don’t want to!”
“You’re grounded, you have to help me!”
But for now, all his happy thoughts will have to wait, because he’d rather not also get grounded for trying to kill his sister.
What he had to do was pay her back, knowing her secrets until they became useful.
