Chapter Text
What the hell was happening.
The team was sent on an intelligence op just outside the border between Russia and the Ukraine. They had received intelligence that a Russian weapons facility was holding a cyber nuc that was to be sold to a group of soviet radicalist tonight. Usually this kind of information would be handled by a lesser team but, this particular group who was supposed to me being the nuc was known for its cyber attacks on the States the last of which, had rendered hospitals in Texas without power for over a week. 11 Americans had died as a result of the attack and that is why Bravo team had been lying in the dirt for the last 7 hours. The drop was supposed to go down at 2200, but Bravo had arrived early and had been running surveillance since 1600. Clay and Ray were on sniper overwatch, they would take out the guards and the driver. The rest of the team was hidden in a grassy area closer to the compound, they would take out the rest of the men and secure the nuc. It was a cold rainy day in October and nobody was particularly enjoying this op. It was currently 2250 and nothing had happened which meant they were all a little extra cranky.
“The hell are these guys” Sonny mumbled through the comms.
“Shut up and keep watching,” replied Trent. He sounded just as unhappy about the situation as Sonny.
“Anyone got anything?” asked Jason. He was cold and had lost feeling in his feet about an hour ago. If nothing happened soon he was going to call it.
“Hold on, I think I got something,” said Ray, looking through his sniper rifle. “One black HTV with four white fighting age males approaching from the south.”
“Finally” grumbled Sonny. “Let’s nail these suckers”
“Agreed” Jason concluded. “Everyone knows what they're doing?”
Everyone nodded.
“Execute.”
————————————————————————
Everything went off without a hitch.
Bravo stood in the middle of the compound admiring their work. Exfil would arrive in 15 minutes to pick up them and the nuc.
“These are some fancy looking shooting things” drolded Sonny picking up a weapon that looked like something you’d see in Star Wars.
“Don’t you break anything there Sonny boy” Clay said, finally breaking his hour long silence.
“Oh so it can talk” laughed Sonny. “You had us all worried there for a minute.”
“What are you talking about Sonny?” Clay said play dumb. The truth was there was a ringing at the back of his head that had been driving him crazy. He had spent the last 7 hours cold, tired and with a pounding headache. But admit that to Sonny? Over his dead body.
“You my brother, have barely spoken a word this op!”
“Sonny compared to you no one has spoken a word” Jason interjected.
“Oh ha ha” mocked Sonny
Grateful for the way out of the conversation, Clay went back to checking out the weapon they had just secured and thinking about the weird ringing.
He had heard it all day, faint but clear as a bell. He heard it all the way up to the attack. Then it just stopped. ‘Probably just the adrenaline’ he thought. At least it was gone now.
“Check out this one!” Sonny suddenly shouted from behind him.
“Whoa.” said Brock “that’s cool. I wonder what it does.”
It was a gun about the size of Sonny’s hand made of silver metal. The weird part however, was the muzzle. Instead of it being regular sized it was giant and sort of resemble a satellite dish.
“Ask and you shall receive” and with that Sonny pointed it at the far wall and flicked the red switch that was where the trigger should be.
All of a sudden the ringing exploded. Clay grabbed his head and fell to the floor. It was so loud. His ears were painfully numb and his head felt like it was bursting.
He felt his knees hit the floor. ‘God just make it stop’ he thought as everything went terribly dark.
—————————————————————————
“Make it Stop! Make it Stop!” Screamed Clay as hit the ground. He held his arms over his head making them cover his ears. “For the love of God just make it stop!”
“What is happening!” Shouted Ray running over to the comotion. He had been looking at crates in the corner and came when he heard Clay sceam. “What is he talking about!”
“Sonny! The gun!” Turn the gun off” released Jason. Clay was rolling on the floor breathing heavily and screaming.
“Got it!” Sonny said in a panic. They all turned and looked at the young man. He had gone silent about ten seconds before and to say it worried them would be an understatement. He was lying still on the floor and appeared to be unconscious. He had sweat droplets under his blond curl and his forehead and eyes were scratched in pain. The thing the team found the most disturbing was the blood slowly running down from his eyes down his extremely pale face. “Is he ok?”
“I have no idea,” said Trent. Usually he was good with medical issues. Gunshots, stab wounds, fevers, that he had covered. Magic Russian guns that made soldiers drop to the ground screaming in pain was way out of his league. “Anyone have any idea what just happened?”
“Sonny turned on the gun and Clay lost his mine.” said Jason. They were all staring at Clay's pale form on the ground. Jason shared a concerned look with Trent.
“Why didn’t anything happen to us when I turned it on?!” said Sonny angrily “Both Trent and Jason were standing way closer to the damn thing and for god sake I was holding it!”
“He seems to be getting better now,” said Brock. Motioning at Clay. He had regained some colour in his face and the blood was starting to dry. He still looked terrible but was right he did look better. “Why are his eyes bleeding”
“That I can answer,” said Trent. “He burst some blood vessels in eyes. It’s not life threatening, it just looks weird”. As soon as he finished saying that the body on the ground began to move.
“Clay! Clay. Wake up buddy.” said Trent tapping his check gently.
“Come on Spencer” said Jason “Wake up”
“Ughh.” Clay tried to sit up but was immediately pushed back down by Sonny.
“Welcome back to the land of the living.” said Sonny. He felt responsible for this mess and there wasn’t a chance he was going to leave his brother's side.
“What happened?” asked Clay, reaching for his head his arm was again, stopped by a worried looking Sonny.
“We have no idea, why don’t you tell us.” Said Ray. He, like the rest of the team, had found the recent event terrifying and wanted some answers. Clay, however, seemed more confused than they were by the whole ordeal.
“How did I get on the floor? Why does my head hurt? Did someone knock me out?” he asked, his eyes moving from each member of Bravo to the next. This time he tried to see why his cheek felt so weird.
“No one knock you out-” Jason’s explanation was cut short by an angry voice.
“Why is no one answering me!” This made all the members share a concerned look. Finally Sonny got right in Clay's face and asked: “Clay can you hear us.”
“What’s happening? Why can’t I hear you?” replied Clay. His blue eyes moving around frantically. He was still being held down by Sonny and he was growing less and less fond of this by the second.
“Go update HAVOC. We’re going to need a medevac.” said Ray taking his eyes off Clay and turning them to Jason. He nodded, took out his radio, moved a few feet away and turned his back from the group.
“Let me go and answer me!” came an angry demand from Clay. He didn’t like not knowing what was going on ‘Why won’t they answer me! Where did Jason go!” he asked himself.
Ray noticed the look on Clay’s face and realized he had no idea what was happening. He knew if they didn’t do something then he was going to start fighting. “Sonny let him go”
Clay felt Sonny let go of his tight hold on his chest and arms. He was grateful for this opportunity and used it to sit up. Then he saw Ray come right into his line of sight holding his phone. The notes app was open and he relished Ray had typed something. ‘You can’t hear us.’ This freaked Clay out. What did he mean ‘You can’t hear us.’ Then he felt it. The searing pain on the inside of his head.
Suddenly, he couldn’t see straight, the world was spinning. ‘Oh god not this again.’ he thought, remembering how he ended up on the floor.
