Sorry For Trying To Get In The Act

Summary:

Jodie is a performer, and she finds out that maybe her act is a little "too much" for some of her co-workers

Work Text:

“Look, I know you don’t like Jodie, exactly–” Tavi started, already anticipating the spiel that would spark, “Neither do I. But we can’t get rid of her. You’ve seen how she can draw a crowd. People love her.”

“I know. I can’t argue with profits.” Dillan conceded, mostly out of tiredness, right as they finally reached the hall with their rooms. It had been a long day of performances. “But having her around is just so–”

“Yeah. She’s… a lot.” Tavi nodded without needing the specification, her dark brown hair bouncing as she did. She seemed a little less sick of Jodie than her counterpart, at least.

Dillan laughed a little, mostly to himself. “It’s not like we’ll have to deal with her much longer. We’re so close to being able to sell this place, I can practically smell the money already.”

Jodie almost flinched as they rounded the corner, sure she’d been seen.
She hadn’t, thankfully. (Though she was hardly in the mood to be thankful.)

They really think that low of me? She considered, finally understanding why they always seemed so… different around her. Not just compared to the patrons or the backstage workers, but even to the other acts.
It wasn’t a surprise that Dillan thought of her like that; he was always a questionable man.
Hearing it from Tavi was startling, though. She’d never–

She’d liked Tavi. They were friends, in a way, though they fought. Jodie never thought their bickering was anything serious.

Notes:

Thanks for reading!! Um. I don't know what to say. I guess I thought I'd expand on this, but I'm not great with OCs (which I think these technically are) and I really wanted to be able to post it and enter it to the After The Ball art challenge, and then I figured I wouldn't, and now I am! So here you go. Hope you enjoyed!
