Work Text:
“Good morning!” Anzai's clearly excited voice knocking on her door made Sakura bury her head deeper into her pillow. “I know you're in there, open up, or we'll be late.”
With no other choice, or else he would get complaints from the neighbors about the noise, the bicolor got up and walked to the door, opening it with a look of disgust. Anzai barged into his apartment with a bag in his hands and took off his shoes.
“Don't make that face, just put them on and keep your word.” Sakura groaned at that and took the bag from his hands.
“I'm never drinking with you guys again!” he growled at his colleague, who just laughed.
“Being drunk doesn't exempt you from anything. Just do it.”
Still complaining, Sakura went to the bathroom. He had gone out drinking with Anzai's group and some other captains, while Nirei and Suo decided to stay home and flirt, so they didn't go. To sum up, his night: lots of drinking, stupid challenges, and a terrible hangover the next day. Ah, young people.
Wearing the damn kitten pajamas that consisted of a fluffy shirt to imitate fur, brown shorts with a tail in the back, and a pair of ears that matched her hair color. Ridiculous! Totally ridiculous! He put on his uniform jacket, wanting to have a shred of dignity.
The walk to school was terrifying. He even avoided going to Photos for breakfast so he wouldn't have to walk down the main street. Anzai cursed him for it, but Sakura wanted to arrive at school with a little dignity. That was impossible, though, since he was the leader of Bofurin, and having their leader arrive in an outfit like that was not something to be expected in the middle of the morning.
Telling everyone to fuck off, of course still joking around even though he was dying inside, he kicked Anzai and headed for the announcement room in the principal's office. Nirei was there, finishing writing something in his newest notebook and widened his eyes when he saw the state of the two-tone.
“I tawt I taw a puddy tat!” Nirei said, trying to control his laughter, and got a smack on the head.
“Shut up, or you'll be my dinner, Tweety,” I grumbled, sitting down at the table while the other rubbed where he had been hurt. “What news do we have for today?”
Fulfilling her role as the new spokesperson, Sakura explained the day's schedule, reminding them of some important duties. Nothing out of the ordinary, and he soon found himself free when he hung up the intercom. Not wanting to break with tradition, he hugged Nirei tightly, as if he were a warm battery that put everyone in a good mood, and received a kiss on the cheek before leaving. Haruka had learned to live with affectionate people, and that freed him from some of the hatred he woke up with due to his hangover.
He went up to the roof, receiving jokes here and there along the way, and took a deep breath as he closed the door. The morning air chilled his bare legs, and he heard the quiet humming that always accompanied this time of day. Walking to the left, past the old sofa and the many books, he found the oldest member of Bofurin with his straw hat, gloves, and watering can in hand.
“Good morning,” Sugishita said in a calm tone, already knowing who it was at this hour.
“Morning,” the two-toned man walked over, stretching his body. “They're fine, I think I just need to buy some more organic substrates.”
“Don't worry, I already took care of... that.” He finally looked at his colleague and smiled instantly. “So that was the surprise Anzai kept talking about?” He put the watering can aside and laughed sincerely.
Sakura looked just like a ripe tomato, crossing her arms and frowning at the situation.
“I don't know what I did to deserve you guys as my friends! You're a bunch of jerks!” he shouted, stamping his foot. “Sugishita, if you keep looking at me like that...”
“What are you gonna do? Scratch me?” scoffed the taller one, still laughing.
The leader didn't think twice about grabbing the other watering can, which was nearby, and throwing water at him. Kyotaro wiped his face, stopped laughing, and wasted no time in going after Sakura. A frantic chase began on that roof. Sugishita was like a rabid dog chasing a mischievous kitten.
Both knew the place well, and because it was a large area, it made it easy to escape. Sakura spun and somersaulted, narrowly escaping the taller boy's clutches, but even though he was agile, Sugishita was treacherous. Both fell onto the sofa, tipping it over in the process, landing on top of each other and staring at each other breathlessly.
“That's not fair! You pulled my tail.” Sakura's indignant tone made the blue-haired boy chuckle softly.
“Certain runaway, troublemaking cats deserve dirty tricks.” Taking advantage of the fact that Sakura was on top of him, he pulled her waist down. “I should throw you in the water tank, you damn cat!”
“I love the new compliment,” he joked, brushing a damp strand of hair from Kyotaro's face and tucking it behind his ear. “But you're not getting a good morning kiss, you already started laughing at me.”
“Then you're not leaving until you give me my kiss!” he hugged the two-colored cat, holding him there. “I should be the one punishing you with no kisses for getting me wet.”
“You started it.”
“Has anyone ever told you that you're annoying and boring?”
“You've been telling me that for three years.”
“Someone has to tell you the truth.”
“And of course it had to be my biggest rival of all.”
The two laughed and got up from the floor, sitting on the overturned sofa. They weren't officially dating yet, neither of them really wanted to label the crazy feelings they had, unsure if it was lust or love, and because they were young, they were just enjoying the moment. It got to the point where Sugishita had to keep asking for his clothes back from time to time, since the two-toned guy would sleep at his house and not return the shirts he lent him.
Sakura loved coming up with new hairstyle ideas for Kyotaro, showing up at his house with various hair clips, elastic bands, gel, and other things to practice what she had seen on the internet during the time she couldn't sleep. It was almost therapeutic. They would buy snacks and watch some bad movie to discuss while Sakura braided her classmate's almost blue hair.
Physical contact wasn't a problem between them, so Haruka didn't mind the kisses on his neck moving up until they found his lips, fulfilling the ritual of giving each other a few kisses on the old sofa every morning. Perhaps they would have gone a little too far if the door hadn't opened, startling them both. Sakura was the first to lift his head from his hiding place, adjusting the tiara on his head, seeing that it was a freshman with a slightly panicked look.
“Sakura! Something unexpected has happened, we need you near the main gate, it's that Tokei guy.”
“Okay, we'll be right behind you.” The boy nodded before leaving, and Sakura sighed, looking down. “We have work to do.” She reached out her hand to help him up.
“It's going to be a busy day,” Kyotaro commented, taking his hand and getting up. “Meet me later on that street after Photos?”
“I'll think about it.”
“Combo twenty-seven with Coca-Cola?”
“Okay. You've convinced me.”
Now, even in that ridiculous outfit, Sakura was happier about the appointment she had later.
