Work Text:
It was a normal, brisk day. The sun was out, minimal clouds with mainly light shining from the rays of light. Things seemed to be normal, and the area that Artful was in seemed to be clear, a perfect time to perform some risky magic tricks, as nobody was in range to be hurt from impact.
"Et, maintenant...", the man said, before pulling out a stack of cards, lighting them on fire with his wand.
"Je presente..."
The man circled the cards around, creating a ring of fire, then circling them around himself.
"Flammes, PRENEZ VIE!"
An explosion occurred, but...
...
...
...
The trick had one mishap, which left Artful in a bad condition with several burn marks. He wasn't severely hurt, but around his body was slightly burnt clothes and on his face was his messed up makeup that smudged and melted on the impact of the accident. After a few minutes, he adjusted himself to get up slowly, and sooner or later, his boyfriend Mequot, was hovering over him, making him just sit down instead.
"Are you alright?", he asked the Frenchman.
"Yes, yes I'm fine...", Artful peeped, mostly in lie.
"I wouldn't believe it. May I inspect you?", Mequot requested. Silence happened between the question and it's response.
"Sure."
Mequot, not long after searching, saw multiple burn marks all over Artful's body, even ones that weren't just his face, which was the most notable since the makeup wasn't covering that area.
"BLOODY HELL!!!", he shouted. He felt disappointed in Artful for doing this even knowing the consequences. Shortly, Artful got up from the ground, ready to talk to Mequot.
"Your recklessness is your biggest flaw, Mister", Mequot said, slowly before adjusting his own turtleneck.
"I understand that there are things you'd rather do in your alone time, but your little tricks that could do as much as render somebody as ultimately hurt as possible is something that should not be on your list", he continued. Artful looked down, embarrassed of his own actions, almost frowning. Mequot then put a hand on his shoulder.
"Know that this is not me bullying you, or picking on you for your magic. This is me looking out for you. You need to start looking out for yourself, okay?"
Artful nodded.
"I know, I know, I'm truly sorry, mon chou", he said.
"I accept your apology. Let's get you back to home."
The two walked back to their shared home together. Despite how royal the two sounded for their European descent, the home looked just like your average suburban house, just small ways away from other homes. When they came home, Mequot took his time to help the burn marks on Artful heal, and he as well sewed his best clothes back together, and cleaned the scorch marks off his shirt. Hours after, it felt like the incident never happened.
"Thank you, thank you a lot actually, Mequot", Artful said.
"You're welcome", he replied.
"Take this as a lesson to be more cautious, alright?"
