Summary:

Barry invited Caitlin to a cabin in the mountains, where they could finally relax. They're deeply in love, but also deeply in denial. Will either of them confess? Or will things be left unsaid?

Chapter 1: Late Nights

Chapter Text

The fluorescent lights shone brightly in Star Labs as Caitlin endlessly analysed blood samples. They were a stark contrast to the overcast night sky. She carefully read over the latest result as Barry walked in.

Hearing his footsteps, she softly greeted him.“Hi, Barry,” She turned around in her chair and looked up to him with loving eyes. “What are you doing back here, so late?”

Barry smirked, glancing at her screen. “I could say the same about you!” He replied cheekily. “You need a break! Better yet, we both could use a vacation.” He stated, changing the subject.

Caitlin rolled her eyes playfully. Tiredness was evident in her voice as she responded. “I’ll manage.”

He leaned over and rested his arm on her desk. “Come on!” He urged her. “I found a nice cabin in the mountains. I’ve heard the views are incredible!!!” He beamed. His eyes glittered, and his smirk widened.

Cait sighed in response; that did sound nice. Barry was the best, wasn’t he? After a long pause, she answered firmly, “I’ll think about it.”

“That’s all I’m asking,” Barry said with hope in his tone. He could hardly contain his excitement. As he walked off, he added, “It’s this Friday! Call me when you decide!”

Cait thought about the offer for the rest of the night. It kept her up, unable to think of anything else. If she let herself relax, her love for him would bubble up, and it would be harder to suppress. She loved him, but she was terrified to lose him.

Barry’s offer called to her, beckoning her to accept. A weekend at a cabin would be nice; She really needed it. Thinking about it made her happy. When was the last time she gave in to it and let herself relax?

When morning came, she called Barry. His reasoning was very sound. “I’m in!” She nearly shouted as he answered.

“What?” Barry asked sleepily. When his brain caught up, he jumped. “Great! Would you like me to pick you up tomorrow?”

Cait nodded, then remembered that she was on the phone. “That works.” She hung up, a mix of emotions washing over her. She reminded herself that it was just for the weekend, as they had discussed over text. A weekend with her best friend! A weekend with someone she loved deeply.

She pushed her thoughts aside and started getting ready for work. Barry would be there, so they would have the chance to talk about it in further detail; That should calm her nerves.
