It was strange, to be represented by someone so different from herself. Shenhe watched Yun Jin as she moved and sang across the stage, her elegance contrasting with her own awkwardness. After the show, Yun Jin grinned up at her and asked her if she'd liked it.
"It was beautiful," Shenhe said. "I never thought I would see myself, my story, what happened… like that."
Yun Jin bowed her head minutely. "Did it help?"
"Yes. I think it did."
Yun Jin smiled at that. "Could we share a drink, perhaps? You are the protagonist of tonight, after all."
Her voice was silky smooth, almost teasing, and Shenhe's cheeks warmed up with a want she had seldom felt before. Only raised among the adeptus, she did not know how to feel.
"Of course," she said, avoiding Yun Jin's gaze as they sat down.
Shenhe took a sip of her drink and tried to not pay any mind to how Yun Jin looked at her, how her big dark eyes sized her up. Her stomach coiled with unknown emotions.
"Cheers," Yun Jin said, raising her glass. Shenhe could only answer in kind and try not to look at her lips too much.
