Work Text:
Marnie adores Lewis.
She worships him. She would give anything to be with him.
Officially.
Publicly.
And he promises her that, one day, they will be together that way.
Three months turn into six. Then, a year.
On the night of their first anniversary, as she scribbles another entry into her journal, she realizes something:
Their situation will never change.
He is the mayor. All of the love that she holds in her heart will never matter to him. Only his image does.
She cries herself to sleep.
In the morning, she sets herself free:
She lets him go. Forever.
