Summary:

Samurai is sleeping on Cole, who is sleeping on Nicole. Oh, and Insomniac is there.

Work Text:

This was… certainly an interesting situation to be in.

Nicole was on the couch in Cole’s ward, technically their ward since she’d been admitted. Lying on her was Cole, snoring softly. Now, this wouldn’t be that weird. It wasn’t the first time the musician had fallen asleep on her; it happened often, considering he had been cutting back on his caffeine intake.

The weird part was that lying on Cole was Samurai, complete in his set of armor underneath his baseball shirt. She wondered if he was heavy. He probably was, but with how comfortable Cole looked, he was probably a good kind of heavy. The kind weighted blankets provided.

Leaning on the other side of the couch next to Samurai was Insomniac. She wasn’t sure if he was awake or asleep, to be perfectly honest. He was sitting completely still, almost as if he were meditating. She was tempted to ask, but decided against it. If he was asleep, she figured she’d do everything she could to keep him that way. Gods know he needs it.

It was nice having the four of them in here. Normally, Samurai and Insomniac would be in the main ward with the Stevensons and the high schoolers, which was fine, but Cole seemed happier with Samurai. The two had a connection, if their jamming sessions had any say in the matter. Insomniac, while usually off valuing his alone time, was a nice addition to their group. Nicole found herself more than once sitting next to him while the two more energetic members of the group bounced off each other, playing the drums and bass, doing whatever it was they loved to do.

“Nicole.”

She jumped as she found herself pulled back into reality, a pair of red eyes staring at her. She knew now that Insomniac never means to come off as intimidating, that he simply looked like that and was quite nice when spoken to, despite how reserved he was, but it never failed to spook her when he made eye contact.

“Shit, sorry, did I wake you?”

“No.”

He averted his gaze to Samurai’s sleeping form, face buried in Cole’s hoodie, his snores muffled by the fabric.

“Are they heavy?” He asked, his eyes returning to her. “I can move them.”

“No, no it’s…” Nicole looked between them. “It’s nice.”

“Hm.”

She studied the man for a moment. Insomniac wasn’t much for physical affection, but she noticed he wasn’t averse to it either, considering Samurai’s tendency to suddenly sit next to people he liked and lean against them. Maybe he just wasn’t used to dealing it out? She couldn’t tell.

“Actually-” She started before she could stop herself. “I can feel my foot going numb, so can you…”

She made a gesture to move the two to make them lie on Insomniac rather than her. He nodded in understanding and gently hooked his hands under Samurai, pulling him to his side. It was an easy transition, the man staying asleep as he rolled over, his arms wrapped around Insomniac’s midsection and his face buried into his skin. She wondered if it was uncomfortable with his armor, but Insomniac didn’t show it if it was.

Nicole carefully did the same with Cole, deep enough into his sleep that he flopped over like a sack of potatoes when she moved him. She sighed in relief and made a show of getting up and stretching. She had to use the bathroom anyway, quietly letting Insomniac know as she left the ward.

When she came back, she was pleasantly surprised to hear three sets of snores instead of two.
