Work Text:

Jonah was fucking trembling. He was sitting in the passengers seat of his and Adam's car, the radio crackling with whatever shitty song was on. Jonah didn't care. All he could think about is what Adam was gonna say when he said that, "oh hey, by the way, I'm a guy trapped in a girls body and I want you to know the real me." Jonah was terrified of the outcome.

Would Adam be disgusted? Say that he's making it all up in his head? Maybe he'd throw him away like roadkill. Jonah gripped the seat until knuckles turned white. He felt sick. But as he glanced over his shoulder, he noticed Adam was struggling to stay awake. He should do it now or never, maybe get it over with. Who knows? Maybe Adam would be too tired to throw him out.

"Adam."

"What is it, dingus?"

His voice didn't have any true malice to it, just playful names he called Jonah out of habit. Jonah kind of liked it.

"Can I tell you something?"

"What? You kill someone?" The blonde snorted, eyes still fixed on the road ahead.

"N─What?! No! Of course not. It's just something... personal."

Jonah's voice wavered just a tad.

"Well, spill it, and do it quick. My eyes burn from shitty sleep last night and I wanna switch."

Jonah nodded, then took a deep breath. Running his hands through his hair, he bit the bullet.

"I─I'm trans. I am a guy stuck in a girl's body. I transitioned a year before you met me so it never came up. I just felt like I..─I should tell you the truth. If you see me any different, I don't blame you. I know it seems wrong in some people's eyes but it's who I am."

Jonah clenched his teeth after he spoke. Ffffuuuuuckkk. His only bestfriend might ditch him. What if he really does throw him out? What if Jonah's all alone again? He will be without any help or food, or anything for that matter. It made Jonah shake irritationaly. What if─

"So what?"

"...What?"

"I said, so what? I don't care that you're trans, dude. You're still Jonah. It doesn't matter what you were before your transition."

Adam was playing this off like buying a daily need. It made Jonah's head spin. The dyed hair boy looked utterly taken aback, biting his nails after realizing.

"O─Oh. Well, um.. thanks, dude? I just didn't know you'd react like this."

"I'm not a bitch, Jo. I'll still treat you like any other human being." The blonde snickered, and it made Jonah realize how much he loved that sound.

"Haaahh.. yeah."

They both stayed silent for a while.

"Now," Adam yawned wide. "Care to take over? I'll buy us lunch next stop."

Jonah let out a little laugh, opening his car door and waiting for Adam to get out. He did so, ending up opening the back of the car and climbing in to where their sleeping bags were.

"Cya in a few hours, Ads." The key turned in the ignition.

"Mmmmff.. see ya'.."

Jonah smiled like a kid high off candy once Adam started snoring and let off on the roads. He felt like he was on Cloud 9. His friend didn't hate him. He wasn't gonna throw him out. Adam said he didn't care... that's supporting, right? Whatever it was, Jonah was estatic and basking in the joy greedily. He hummed a soft tune along with the radio as he drove, way more cheerful than he was the start of the drive.
