Chapter Text
She was well aware that she would likely meet her end on a battlefield in a final stand and go out in a blaze of glory. So when such a situation finally happened, the young woman going by the chosen name of Firefly didn’t hesitate and dove straight into the fray, plasma-blades lit, mechanical battlesuit firing on all available cylinders and all safety features disabled. She didn’t care whether she technically survived the battle, if she burned to ashes in the process or if she died fighting. She didn’t want to think about it and simply let herself fight with reckless abandon, to lose herself in the fighting.
After the long and grueling battle, Firefly couldn’t help but let out a weak laugh as she let herself topple backwards onto her back while coughing up blood, completely exhausted and in excruciating pain… but victorious. With the battle finally over, Firefly finally took a look at her mechanical battlesuit’s notifications regarding the status of her health. In summary, she was, at most, a minute away from succumbing to the multitude of injuries she had suffered during her last stand. Despite all of her injuries and the fact that she was about to die, she couldn’t help but feel proud of herself. However, in the last moments of her life, something abnormal happened to Firefly.
Instead of having her consciousness fade away, Firefly found herself waking up in a new unfamiliar place that she easily recognized as a hospital room. What was really weird was that not only was everything much bigger than she remembered hospital rooms usually were but she also couldn’t help but notice that she was being handled between quite a few different people before finally ending up in the arms of a giant woman with blonde hair. When Firefly tried to ask the giant woman what was going on, what came out of her mouth weren’t any actual words, but a mere gurgling sound that made Firefly all but freeze with dread.
“Congratulations, Lady Phenex. It’s a girl.”
“Oh my. She’s quite a lively little baby girl.”
“Oh, crud.” Firefly couldn’t help but ‘curse’ in her mind as she continued making nonsensical baby noises.
Chapter Text
Over the first few years of her new life, Firefly learned quite a lot about her new home. The first one being that, her full (new) name was (more or less) the same as her previous life, Firefly Phenex. She had apparently been named Firefly by one of her older brothers in reference to her ‘baby-habit’ of producing tiny balls of fire that resembled fireflies. The second one was that, despite looking like Humans, her family were actually something called Devils. Specifically, Pure-Blooded Devils of the Phenex-Clan’s main branch, who were apparently renowned for their high Magical Affinity for Fire-Magic and the ability of their Bloodline known as The Phoenix’s Immortality, a form of fire-based regeneration from what Firefly understood. According to some tests that mostly went over her head, Firefly apparently had a (rather unsurprisingly) Very High Affinity for Fire-Magic. The third one was that her new home not only had genuine Magic but had multiple layers of reality, locally referred to as Realms.
While Firefly hadn’t been much of a believer of the Supernatural in her previous life, she couldn’t deny that what Humans called the Supernatural was very much real, especially when her species belonged to the ‘Hebrew Pantheon’. The Supernatural World certainly was ‘big’ by local standards but it was rather tiny in the grand cosmic scheme of things, especially when Aeons were involved. Another ‘world’ that was technically a small part of the Supernatural World was the so-called Wizarding World… which was basically just a whole hidden society of Magic-users living in the Human Realm of Earth… a.k.a Planet DHXPD-669 in the Galactic Archives. A very unremarkable backwater planet on the very edge of Known Space. Which Firefly (since her rebirth as Firefly Phenex) knew was a load of *cosmic profanity*… then again, the Interastral Peace Corporation (or IPC for short) was a highly corrupt organization run by greedy idiots… to quote the quirky woman known as Stelle the Trailblazer.
Something that Firefly couldn’t help but find interesting about Devils was a certain set of items that were quite likely to be labeled as a Curio in the greater Cosmos. The Evil Pieces. A set of items capable of Reincarnating other beings into Devils and forming a Peerage based on chess pieces. Like many Devils of noble birth, Firefly had possessed the arguably most important Evil Piece of her set since she was born, the King Piece. While the King Piece didn’t provide the King with any enhancements unlike the other pieces, it served as a Magical Stabilizer, preventing the other members of the Peerage from not only growing too powerful too quickly but also preventing the Magic of the Devils from mutating their bodies and minds while simultaneously ensuring loyalty towards their King. Out of the four ‘children’ of the main branch of the Phenex-Clan, all of them possessed an Evil Piece but only one of them did not possess a King Piece. Ravel Phenex, Firefly’s older sister and one of the Bishops of Riser Phenex’s Peerage. Even though she was willing to admit that she was relatively curious about the stories about how her older brothers made their Peerages, Firefly was more interested in getting her own set. Wishing to start her own Peerage. A wish that she could finally start fulfilling with her own hands and effort at the age of nine years old.
Chapter Text
Despite her initially very high enthusiasm and excitement at receiving the rest of her set of Evil Pieces, which included a total of four Mutated Evil Pieces, extra powerful Evil Pieces that occurred on rare occasions due to a glitch in the Evil Piece System, specifically a Mutated Bishop Piece, a Mutated Knight Piece, a Mutated Rook Piece and finally a Mutated Queen Piece, Firefly didn’t find anyone to recruit into her Peerage until she pretty much just stumbled upon the person who would become the first Reincarnated member of her Peerage at the age of ten while on vacation with her family in the city of London about a week after her birthday, which was on July 10th. The encounter occurred in the streets around the famous British shopping center, Harrods’. Firefly had accidentally gotten herself separated from her family and was more or less following what was basically the standard procedure for such an incident, not moving too far away from where she got separated from her family.
As Firefly, rather simply, stood under an overhang near the entrance of a backstreet to avoid the rather heavy downpour. Even in her previous life, she had never liked rain and she definitely didn’t enjoy it in her new life as Firefly Phenex. It was cold. It was wet. And it was very annoying. Grievances about bad weather and her Sinful inclinations as a Devil, particularly towards the Sin of Gluttony (even if it was a relatively mild case in the form of a rather strong sweet tooth when it came to various pastries) and the Sin of Wrath, aside, Firefly was still a very kind person. Which led to her not only actually getting along with the young Devil who had been set up as the reluctant fiancé of Riser Phenex, Rias Gremory, and that she knew when it was time to do the right thing. Kindness that she decided to act on upon hearing something that, figuratively speaking, made her freeze down the nearby backstreet. The sound of a child crying and repeatedly sneezing, seemingly from behind a rather large trash can.
Deciding that it was time to swallow her Pride and do the right thing, Firefly walked into the backstreet with quick steps and when she reached the trash can, she was greeted by the sight of a concerningly skinny girl around her own age with black hair and green eyes not only shivering and completely soaked trying to get some modicum of shelter from the heavy rain inside an equally soaked cardboard box. Taking a quick glance around and checking if the shivering girl had noticed her at all, Firefly made a decision and, through the use of some Summoning Magic, pulled out an umbrella from her home in the Underworld. Opening the umbrella and using some light Fire-Magic to dry herself off, Firefly proceeded to loudly snap her fingers and catch the shivering girl in the cardboard box’ attention.
“Wh-h-h-ho a-a-a-ar-r-re you? And what d-d-do you want?”
“My name is Firefly Phenex and what I want right now is to offer you-” Firefly’s semi-planned self introduction was cut off by the shivering girl’s stomach rumbling, loudly. “Some food.”
“I heard the word FOOD, I’m taking your offer. Wait a second, your name is ‘Firefly Phoenix’?”
“It’s Phenex, but close enough. What of it?”
“Nothing.”
“Thought as much. There should be a fast food joint nearby if memory serves. Shall we?” As the shivering girl took a hold of Firefly’s outstretched hand, the youngest daughter of the Phenex-Clan couldn’t help but notice two things about the girl holding her hand. The first being that the black haired girl was very cold and seemed to outright be trying to soak up as much warmth from Firefly as possible. The second being that the shivering girl had a LOT of raw, unrefined and just barely kept in check Magical power.
“Okay.”
“Oh!”
“What?”
“I forgot to ask; what is your name?”
“…Hestia.”
“What?”
“My name. It’s Hestia.”
“Okay then. Let’s go.” Neither of the two girls talked for a few good minutes of walking towards the fast food joint Firefly mentioned underneath the Devil’s umbrella until Hestia seemingly couldn’t hold back her question anymore.
“Why?”
“Why what?”
“Why are you helping me? I’m a total stranger to you.”
“I’d be lying if I said it was just out of the goodness of my heart. You have a certain kind of potential that I’m looking for and therefore you intrigue me. I’m hoping that we can come to a mutually beneficial agreement.”
“In other words, you want something and are trying to bribe me with food.”
“Is it working?”
“Yes.”
Chapter Text
While Firefly wasn’t necessarily an enthusiast of fast food, she could appreciate the occasional meal at such a place that served that kind of food. Hestia on the other hand was easily eating with the enthusiasm of someone who hadn’t gotten to eat a decent meal in days if not weeks… which was a very real possibility of being true considering the state Firefly found Hestia in. Not wanting to kill the other girl’s enthusiasm, the Devil chose not to ask how long it was since the last time Hestia ate anything resembling proper food. The youngest daughter of the Phenex-Clan got pulled out of her musings while calmly enjoying her own meal, a burger and some fries, by the sudden sound of Hestia letting out a loud belch, who quickly went back to eating her meal, which consisted of some fries and chicken nuggets.
“Excuse me.”
“It’s fine.” Despite her somewhat exasperated expression and tone, Firefly couldn’t help but find Hestia’s lack of concern for appearances refreshing. “Anyway, let’s talk business. Hmm, where to start?”
“You mentioned earlier that I had some kind of potential that you were looking for, could you explain that?”
“Sure. Has something strange ever happened around you when you got particularly emotional?”
“Well, there was that time when I got really angry at my cousin, which somehow shook the whole kitchen and dropped a cookie jar on his head. But what has that got to do with you?”
“I’ll keep it brief. When you took my hand earlier, I was able to sense something special within you. Raw untapped Magical Power. Lots of it.”
“Okay? What do you want from me?”
“I’m hoping that you’re willing to join me as the first member of my Peerage.”
“Peerage?”
“A group of typically Reincarnated Devils under the leadership of a King.”
“Okay? Wait. Did you just say ‘Devils’?”
“I did.”
“… you’re a Devil, aren’t you?”
“Yes. I’m a Devil. More precisely, I’m a Pure-Blooded Devil of the Phenex-Clan and a King.”
“Should you really be talking about this in public?”
“Relax, I’ve put up a barrier that prevents people from overhearing our conversation.”
“Okay then. Wait, Magic is real!?”
“Seriously? After everything I just said, that’s what you’re surprised by? But to answer your question; yes. Magic is real, and you can use it.”
“Right. It certainly explains all the weird stuff that happened whenever I got angry.”
“Anyway, the point I’m trying to get across is that I’m hoping that you’d be willing to be the first to join my Peerage. Most likely as one of my Bishops. What do you say?”
“In general, what would being a part of your Peerage entail?”
“Generally speaking, you would by definition be my minion or servant, but it’d be closer to being my friend. Another thing is that you would no longer be a Human, but a Reincarnated Devil. Benefits include a significantly longer lifespan, better health and much more, including the ability of flight.”
“Okay? Anything else?”
“I’m not sure what else to say. Three full meals a day?”
“Three meals a day!? I’m in.”
“Seriously? That’s what you latch onto?”
“You try surviving on practically nothing but the occasional can of soup for two months.”
“Oh. Well that’s not something you’ll have to worry about anymore. Glad to have you onboard, Hestia… what did you say your last name was?”
“I didn’t. But I think it’s Potter.”
“Understood. So, do we have a Deal, Hestia Potter?”
“We do, Firefly Phoenix.” Despite being quite slightly annoyed by the misnaming, Firefly couldn’t help but smile as she and Hestia shook hands, sealing their Deal.
“It’s Phenex.”
Chapter Text
Despite her initial nervousness about her new life as a Devil, mainly because of how annoyed her King’s family was when they finally found Firefly and their subsequent skepticism regarding her choice of first members of her Peerage, Hestia Potter found her new life as Firefly Phenex’ Bishop to be a significant improvement over her previous one on the streets of London. She had a warm bed, three meals a day and someone who she could genuinely call a friend who cared about her in her life. She had pretty everything she could possibly want.
Through the use of her standard Bishop of her Evil Pieces set, Firefly had successfully managed to Reincarnate Hestia into a Devil, boosting her Magical Power and controlling by a noticeable amount. While Hestia didn’t necessarily understand why, she ultimately wasn’t interested enough to ask her King why she was relieved to not need either her Mutated Bishop or her Mutated Queen to Reincarnate Hestia either. Apparently, her King had already had some people in mind that she hoped to recruit for her Peerage. The apparent problem was that the people Firefly wanted in her group weren’t on Earth, but in outer space. To which Hestia simply shrugged when Firefly mentioned it.
After recently learning that Magic and the Supernatural was real, learning that aliens also existed wasn’t too surprising. Nor was the fact that Firefly had apparently lived a previous life… a piece of knowledge that Firefly was quick to seal away with some kind of Magic to prevent people from spilling the beans with herself as the secretkeeper. Another setback for Firefly regarding her apparent friends in outer space was that a few of them were likely to be either dead or a whole decade older by this point in time, giving Firefly very little reason to actively pursue interstellar travel. She would still do it, but it wasn’t a real priority.
Naturally being curious about outer space, Hestia lost her ‘battle’ against her curiosity after a month of resisting the urge to ask Firefly about what her King knew. With a sigh of resignation, Firefly started revealing various things about what she and most people in it referred to as Known Space. From the wonderful and whimsical world and Dreamscape of Penecony, the breathtaking views found inside the planet-sized space ships of the Xianzhou Alliance, to the horrors that could be found across the entire cosmos, particularly The Swarm of Propagation, which (among other things) explained why Firefly got particularly anxious around big bugs. Often defaulting with the response of ‘kill em with fire!’. Once the King was more or less finished with her exposition about Known Space, she asked whether her Bishop had any more questions, which Hestia had.
“Do you know of anyone who is kind of famous that you’d want in your Peerage?” Hestia asked with genuine curiosity, both about Known Space in general but also about the people.
“That’s a good question. On the top of my head, and do take note that I haven’t actually met them in person in my previous life, there is the former Sword Champion of the Xianzhou Luofu, Jingliu, who would probably take either my Mutated Knight or Mutated Rook, and the General of the Xianzhou Yaoqing, who I would certainly like to have as my Queen, Feixiao.” Answered Firefly with a thoughtful expression on her face. “The last things I heard about those two, eleven years ago, were that Jingliu was still locked up in a cell aboard the Luofu and that Feixiao had been forced to retire from the battlefield due to a combination of severe injuries and something else that resulted in her lifespan being severely reduced. And both of them are members of long-life species.”
“Okay? How long-lived are we talking?”
“Foxians, Feixiao’s species, have a lifespan between 250 and 450 years while Xianzhou Natives, Jingliu’s species, can live up to and over a thousand years if they’re lucky.”
“If they’re lucky?”
“They are more likely to become Mara-stricken and mutate into feral monsters than actually living that long.”
“What’s Mara?”
“It’s a kind of sickness that long-life species within Known Space suffer from. Devils appear to be the exception… mostly because the nature of our species’ long lifespan is different as far as I can tell. I hope the comparatively more average Devils are immune to Mara. Myself on the other hand… I’m not worried.”
“Why not?”
“The Phoenix’s Immortality. Not a single member of the Phenex-Clan, including myself, has gotten sick. Ever.”
“Good for you?”
“Thanks, Hestia. What do you say about visiting the Xianzhou Luofu sometime in the next few years?”
“Sure. Seems like an interesting place. I wonder what their food is like.”
“Of course it’s the food that you’re interested in.”
“And?”
“Nothing.”
Chapter Text
Since her Reincarnation, Hestia Potter steadily grew into her role as Firefly Phenex’ first Bishop. Taking to learning preexisting Magic like a fish to water and actually developed a handful of new Spells of her own. While quite a few of Hestia’s original Spells weren’t what many considered suitable for combat purposes, such as a Spell that could be described as a ‘Cleaning Bomb’, which destroyed all sorts of dust, dirt or grime while leaving everything else untouched, the ones Hestia made that could be considered ‘Combat Spells’ were surprisingly simple but effective. Namely Orbs of Magic imbued with whatever Magical Element that made the most sense, Magical Shields and a collection of Spells that essentially formed a blade of Magic in various shapes from the head of Hestia’s staff.
Her arguable masterpiece however was a very powerful and dangerous Spell that Hestia didn’t actually make on purpose, an extremely destructive explosion of raw Magical power and physical force that practically ignored all conventional Magical defenses on par with a nuclear explosion, which she repurposed into an actual Spell that she dubbed ‘Megidolaon’. A Spell that her King almost immediately banned her from ever casting again without Firefly’s explicit permission upon hearing the very loud explosion go off on the grounds that it was too destructive and risked exposing the Supernatural World. While the punishment Hestia received for the disturbance, chaos and destruction her Spell caused (particularly the destruction of a large portion of the forestry located in the Phenex-territory) wasn’t what many would consider conventional, namely not getting any dessert after dinner and being forced to eat every single unappealing vegetable served at the table, it got the point across.
Around Yule, a package containing something that Firefly had spent a VERY LARGE amount of money to have commissioned by the Underworld’s R&D arrived at the Phenex Mansion addressed to Firefly. The youngest daughter of the Phenex-Clan was very proud to reveal the item to be a fully functional mechanized battlesuit based on the Firefly Type-IV(4) Strategic Assault Mech she had made frequent use of in her previous life, complete with its transformation between deployed and its ‘transformation trinket’-form. There was however a few differences between Firefly’s original battlesuit and the one she commissioned in her new life. The first one was its name; the Firebird Type-I(1) Strategic Assault Mech. The second and most notable difference between the original and the new one however was the fact that the Firebird Type-I made it very obvious that it was being worn by a female due to being very form fitting. The third and final difference between the Firefly Type-IV and Firebird Type-I that Firefly noticed was that the Firebird Type-I seemed to be more adjustable to its wearer than the Firefly Type-IV, able to adjust itself to fit others who were either smaller or bigger than Firefly to an extent via adjustable plating, which meant that Firefly, who was still growing, could still use the Firebird Type-I for quite a while before having to commission a new battlesuit, which saved her a lot of money in the long run.
While the rest of the Phenex-Family didn’t initially appreciate just how much money Firefly had spent on her new battlesuit due to initially assuming that it wasn’t actually functional and complete waste of time and money, they quickly changed their minds when Firefly got the opportunity to show off what the Firebird Type-I Strategic Assault Mech was capable of, which led to Lord and Lady Phenex letting Firefly keep the machine. In comparison with the Firebird Type-I, which Firefly had commissioned for herself, the other presents exchanged between the ‘children’ of the Phenex-Clan weren’t as exciting but appreciated amongst the siblings. Being the youngest among them, most of the presents were for Firefly. Since their youngest sister’s fascination with outer space was no secret, the common theme among Firefly’s presents was science fiction and/or space fantasy.
Chapter Text
While both Firefly and Hestia had wished for an interesting new year when New Year’s Eve came around, neither of them had expected their new year’s wishes to come back and bite them in the rear when they were summoned to Lord Phenex’s office and were greeted by both Lord Phenex and Sirzech Lucifer, one of the Four Satans and the Underworld’s Head of Internal Affairs. Taking a look around the room for a moment, something that quickly caught Firefly’s attention was a pair of important looking letters in her father’s hands.
“Firefly. Miss Potter. You’re here.” Lord Phenex addressed his daughter and her Bishop. “Lord Lucifer wishes to speak with the two of you.”
“Indeed. I assume that the two of you are aware of the Wizarding World?”
“We are. Why?”
“I will get to that soon. Usually, the Supernatural World takes a, shall we say, hands off approach with the Wizarding World while most of the Wizarding World pretends that the Supernatural World doesn’t exist. Well, things have been stirring in the past few years in the Wizarding World, particularly in the country of Great Britain.” Sirzech explained, briefly pausing when Hestia let out an annoyed exclamation of ‘of course’ before continuing. “Recent events have made it necessary for us to have someone in the Wizarding World to keep us informed from the inside.”
“And that someone, or rather those someones are the two of us.” Firefly summed up, drawing from her experience in her previous life. “Why us though?”
“Things point to that a particular area will be a location of interest. The area in question is Hogwarts School of Witchcraft And Wizardry, where Miss Potter was already accepted as a would-be student.”
“And as her King, you had someone pull some strings to get me accepted as another would-be student.”
“You catch on quickly.”
“Thanks. Anyway, as interesting as this whole ‘spy mission’ sounds, there’s some things I need to know before agreeing to anything.”
“Go on.”
“First off, if I find any person of interest, am I permitted to recruit them for my Peerage?”
“Naturally.”
“Good. Second, will Hestia and I be compensated for this?”
“Yes. Anything else?”
“Not that I can think of.” With the negotiations for the mission settled, Sirzech took his leave and Lord Phenex handed over his daughter and her Bishop’s Hogwarts Letters before asking them to leave his office. Once outside the office, Hestia wasted no time tearing her letter open and starting to read it with only halfhearted interest.
“Miss H.Potter you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft And Wizardry- blah-blah blah.”
“You do realize that this is serious, right?”
“Of course I do! Doesn’t mean I have to like it.”
“Fair enough. Anyway, we should probably head out to get our supplies. I wonder if one of my siblings are willing to volunteer as a chaperone, if not, I can always ask my mother.”
Chapter Text
Perhaps it was because of sheer coincidence or perhaps because of actual fate, the latter being a very real possibility considering that actual Gods were a thing, the group consisting of Firefly Phenex, Lady Phenex and Hestia Potter didn’t enter Diagon Alley on their own but in the company of one of the two children’s would-be teachers and the family of one of their would-be yearmates, a bushy haired girl named Hermione Granger who had a strangely malevolent presence despite being quite cheerful and friendly. A presence that made the three Devils suspect that the bushy haired girl had something malevolent attached to her, but thankfully didn’t seem to affect her personality… most of the time.
While Devils, as creatures of Sin, were known to occasionally be quite short tempered and prone towards violent aggression when angered (especially those who were particularly in tune with the Sin of Wrath), such behavior was rather rare among Humans. Which made it very surprising when Hermione got very aggressive when some kid said something very rude to her, loudly declaring that she would ‘tear out his skull and beat him to death with it’, the malevolent aura flaring. The only thing that stopped her from likely actually going through with her threat being her parents holding her back before making her calm down by bribing her with the promise of ice cream. Based on how her parents acted, it was likely not the first time Hermione acted violently. Unnoticed by pretty much everyone but Lady Phenex, Hestia had an unexpected reaction towards Hermione’s display of aggression, namely blushing and shifting around in a way that seemed to indicate something that couldn’t be properly expressed yet, which she had also done before whenever Firefly got particularly aggressive on the training dummies with her superheated magical swords while training.
“Interesting. A thing for aggression eh?” Lady Phenex couldn’t help herself from muttering in amusement, finding the hints of something that would probably express itself ‘properly’ during puberty displayed by her youngest daughter’s Bishop amusing. She also found the early hints of her youngest daughter’s preferences amusing, hints that her husband was either completely unaware of or simply ignoring. The older ‘children’ of the Phenex-Clan had definitely noticed the early hints of their younger sister’s preferences and their sister’s Bishop seemed to have a crush on her King, but chose not to tease their younger sister. Mostly because they were under the impression that Firefly was unaware that she likely preferred girls. Sadly, the group was on a schedule and therefore didn’t have much time to ‘fool around’. “Alright, don’t you people think that’s enough? How about we get a move on? We don’t have all day.”
“Thank you for the reminder, Lady Phenex. Let’s get moving. The first stop is Gringotts, the Wizarding Bank.”
“You’re welcome, Professor McGonnagal. I do hope that you and your school live up to the expectations and the standards of the Phenex-Clan. None of us like having our time wasted.”
"Nobody does and I do hope Hogwarts lives up to your expectations. Lady Phenex, if you’re willing to indulge me, how did Miss Potter end becoming your Ward?”
“I’m not. As it is not my story to tell.”
“Fair enough.”
Chapter Text
If one were to ask Hestia Potter how most people would describe her, using only a few words, her answer was likely to be ‘Oddly lucky’. According to some kind of Magical Inheritance Test, she had apparently been born very weak before apparently, for a brief moment, falling under the gaze of a mysterious entity referred to by the test as The Origin and given THEIR Blessing. A Blessing of Beginnings, a small gust of wind that fanned her fading embers of life into a ‘proper’ blaze. A Blessing that Hestia still carried even after ten years of borrowed time and a year of Devilhood.
Despite carrying the Blessing of a God or God-like entity however, Hestia’s odd luck (which had saved her life on more than one occasion, including meeting Firefly as far as Hestia was concerned) had nothing to do with The Origin’s Blessing. Nor did the Blessing have any influence over the fact that, just like the other two children entering the wand shop with her, Hestia had caused a very big mess while the owner had her try more than a dozen different wands, causing things to blow up. It took more than a few tries but Hestia eventually managed to find a matching wand among the older and more resilient ones kept in storage. An eleven inch wand made of holly wood with a feather from a very old Phoenix as a core. In the regard of making a mess while searching for matching wands, Firefly and Hermione were no different from Hestia, even if their respective messes were of different natures.
Firefly, unsurprisingly considering not only her name but also that she was a Pure-Blooded Devil of the Phenex-Clan, ended up setting roughly half the store on fire, mainly the incompatible wands, before managing to find a wand that was not only a match but also strong enough to actually survive more than one attempt at undirected Magic amongst the older ones in storage, just like her Bishop. While the wand hadn't actually been made with a Devil in mind, the thirteen inch wand made of ash wood with a feather that allegedly came from the progenitor of all Phoenixes as a core, The Vermilion Bird; Suzaku, matched with Firefly perfectly, which was evident by the appearance of green sparks erupting from it without setting anything on fire.
While the kinds of messes that Hestia and Firefly caused in search for matching wands more or less made a form of display of what kinds of Magic they either liked or had strong Affinities for, Magic that (among other things) caused things to blow up and Fire Magic respectively, Hermione’s mess was a whole lot sharper… for want of a better word. Sharper as in the directionless Magic with more than a few incompatible wands leaving deep gashes in the floor and walls and practically slicing the shelves at various angles in a fashion similar to the signature technique of a certain tattooed man with pink hair the Devils had read about in a book on Supernatural history. Pictures of the end results of the man’s ‘work’ were featured in the book and calling the results ‘messy’ was a major understatement. Looking over the damage as a wand that was a match with Hermione was finally placed in the girl’s hand, Hestia couldn’t resist commenting regarding the mess.
“Remind me to stay behind her if/when someone stupid makes her angry. I prefer to have my limbs firmly attached to my body, especially my head!”
“So do I.” Firefly couldn’t help but respond to her Bishop’s remark while brushing her left hand against her right wrist. More specifically against the very elaborate ‘bracelet’ that resembled the head of a Phoenix practically cuffed around her right wrist, which was actually Firefly’s Firebird Type-I armor in its standby/dormant form. By channeling her Magic into the rather large red jewel at the center of the ‘Phoenix’s forehead and saying the activation phrase out loud within a certain timeframe, Firefly would trigger the rapid deployment/transformation of her mechanized battlesuit. The activation phrase being the rather simple but effective phrase of ‘Firebird Type-I, Activate’. Apparently, someone in the Underworld’s R&D was a big fan of what was locally referred to as tokusatsu (whatever that meant) and video games, which had resulted in the Firebird Type-I armor including a feature that was similar to what Silver Wolf (one of Firefly’s colleagues as a Stellaron Hunter in her previous life) called the Complete Combustion State for the Firefly Type-IV, which was a result of Firefly pushing her armor into overdrive. The Firebird Type-I on the other hand’s ‘super state’ was not achieved by pushing the armor into overdrive but rather by disabling its regulator and allowing it to operate at Firefly’s unregulated power output, dubbed the ‘Primal Phoinix Mode’ by the engineer in charge of Firefly’s commission. “I’d probably be fine, even if I were to get cut in half. But I’m in no hurry to find out whether I’m right or wrong.”
“Me neither and I’m considerably more squishy than you… Iron Maiden.”
“Iron Maiden?”
“I like to read comics and that armor of yours reminds me of a certain genius billionaire playboy philanthropist, minus the alcoholism.”
“Thanks, I guess? But I’m relatively certain that we Phenexes can’t develop alcoholism or get drunk in the first place.”
“I can definitely verify that Phenexes can’t get drunk.” Lady Phenex suddenly chimed in on her daughter and her daughter’s Bishop’s conversation.
“Uhm… how do you know that, mom?”
“Let’s just say that it took your father quite a few bottles of very strong stuff for me to realize it and some drunk flirting on my part. The end result of it was something that he, myself and your siblings still appreciate to this day.”
“What?”
“You, Firefly. The end result of that night was you.”
