What happened? Where was she? The last things she remembered was everything hurting and a voice in her head. Right, she had been running away, her fiancé yelling after her. She had caught him and her neighbor together in bed, in her bed, after coming home early. She had been running and then a force had slammed into her body, breaking it. The cheating bastard had hit her with his car, trying to save his reputation. And that voice in her head, it was once she did not recognize.
She opened her eyes, or at least she thought she did. A panorama of images assaulted her brain. She reached up to clutch her head, but found her arms unresponsive. No. She had no arms, she could not see her body. Just gray stone and a bright light under her and before her.
“Oi, oi, focus. Focus your thoughts before you pass out again.” A loud booming voice, unfamiliar but commanding, gave her something to focus on. It enabled her to focus on the light before her and what sat within it. A large dragon stared directly at her and she felt the disbelief course through her.
“Ahahah! There you go little light! Follow the instructions of the Great Storm Dragon, Veldora!” She felt her mind spasm and everything fell dark once more.
“Hey! I know you can hear me! Wake up!”
A vaguely familiar, booming voice brought her consciousness back, this time slower. Things rushed back into her mind. She had fainted, but why?
Answer: The system shock of magicule overload caused your body to lose consciousness.
Another vaguely familiar voice. Who was it?
Answer: It is your unique skill, Sage. Now that it has been established, you are capable of reacting more quickly and analyzing information at a greater speed.
Her skill?
Answer: Yes, skill refers to your abilities.
“Hey! Quit ignoring me little light!” The booming voice brought her back to the sight of the looming dragon within a ring of light. Her voice was stuck in what felt like her throat, but she could feel no body.
“Oh? Are you still incapable of speech? Very well, the Great Storm Dragon Veldora will teach you!”
Confirmed. Common skill: Telepathy acquisition successful.
‘Telepathy?’
“Ahahahah! Be amazed at my greatness! You with no form can now communicate with I, The Great Storm Dragon!”
‘Dragon? What? Am I dreaming still? Where am I?’ Panicked thoughts flew through her mind faster than she could count.
“Dreaming? Explain yourself, little light. You are in the cavern in which I have been sealed.”
With hesitant speech, she explained everything that had happened. Her fiancé, him cheating, being run over, the strange voice, and waking up without a body. Through it all, Veldora listened patiently.
“I see. I have heard of other beings crossing into this world, though not through reincarnation. It has been well over two hundred years since I was sealed, but my knowledge is vast! I shall teach you about this world!”
And so, began the long education and companionship. Veldora, trapped for so long, finally had someone to talk to, and she, lost and confused, latched on to what security she could.
He taught her about the inhabitants of the world, how she was a Light Elemental but small and still weak. He spoke of skills and what they were. He spoke at great length of his conquests and tales of his greatness. In return, she told him stories from her world.
But over time, so slowly she almost did not notice, a change began to take place. She was growing slower, dimmer, and sleeping more even though she did not require sleep like a normal being. Waking grew harder and harder. And when she told Veldora of the change, he let out a sad and weary sigh.
“My friend, you are a light elemental who has been trapped within this cavern for many years now. Little light, you are slowly dying.”
The vast amount of magicules put out by his immense power had kept her alive for this long. But she, a creature of light, was not meant to dwell in eternal darkness. The false light of the barrier keeping Veldora contained was not the light she needed to live.
It was unfair, and sad, but she no longer had the energy to fret. It had been peaceful, these past few decades, unlike the stressful life she had lived before. One day she will fall asleep for the last time. The only thing she regretted was that her friend would be left alone once more. With that thought echoing in her mind, she drifted off once again.
