Work Text:
Kaelix was looking around the classroom. He couldn't spot Zeal; he hadn't been in this specific class for a while. Kaelix knew he skipped often, so he decided to be a goodie-two-shoes and head off to the library.
Raising his hand, his teacher gave him a look for a quick second. " Yes, Kaelix? "
"Could I go to the library to grab a book I'd like to use for a future project?"
The teacher gave him a nod, writing him a pass as he collected his items, put his backpack on, and grabbed the note from the teacher. Thanking him quietly, then leaving in that same minute.
Kaelix knew that there would be a great chance that Zeal would be in the library. He'd see the shorter male on multiple occasions in there, either lying his head down on one of the tables, or reading a random book he'd found interesting. Kaelix made his way down the hall and went down a flight of stairs, right at the bottom and right in front of the school's library, showing the lady at the center his pass – smiling a little to himself when she had told him to enjoy his books.
Kaelix scanned around the area until he landed on a figure in a bright purple sweatshirt, reaching upwards for a book on a higher shelf. Kaelix decided to silently approach from the back, footsteps quiet as he crept closer to his boyfriend, who was struggling.
"You stupid fucking book, come down already."
Zeal grumbled out under his breath as he reached for it, his fingers barely touching its hardcover, using the shelf as support and refusing to ask someone for help. Suddenly, a hand took the book he wanted. Zeal whipped his head around quickly to either cuss out or thank the person who had taken his book.
"Here, you wanted this, right?"
It was Kaelix. Zeal was a bit shocked to see the goodie two-shoes here, and not in class, the shorter of the two grabbed the book and whispered, 'thanks '.
The two made their way back to the table Zeal was sitting at, Kaelix placed his bag on the floor, took out some paper, a pencil, and with a folder from calculus (math my PLAGUEEE).
Zeal peeked over his shoulder, seeing Kaelix's notes, and putting down the book he had been reading, to just silently watch Kaelix attempt to do some problems.
"Calculus, huh? These can get tricky."
Kaelix grumbled a bit, getting frustrated at some of the problems. The numbers weren't matching up, and he had a big test on it coming up soon. He turned his head to Zeal with his eyes, giving a small pleading look.
"Would you help me with this? I'll treat you to some food from the store!"
Zeal blinked owlishly before nodding.
"Buy me some bread also while you're at it.
"But your-"
"Do you help or not?"
Kaelix glanced over and back onto the sheet of paper as Zeal scooted closer, adjusting his glasses and observing Kaelix’s work, using a green colored pen to underline the flaws within the problems and explaining them to Kaelix.
Kaelix was partially listening to Zeal, but observing his boyfriend's eyes and how he'd secretly fidget with his sleeve whilst thinking as he explained.
"Does this make more sense, Kaelix?"
Kaelix nodded as the two stayed in the library doing work, Zeal giving Kaelix small bits of feedback on what to do for certain tricky parts to make it easier on him. After a while, Zeal felt his body get a bit sore, and he stretched his arms upwards over his head, letting out a small grunt at the effort.
"Cute."
Kaelix accidentally slipped out. Zeal's facial expression looked a bit shocked, but his lips curled up quickly into that of a Cheshire smile; Kaelix grabbed the sleeves of his cardigan and hid his face at the embarrassment covering his face.
"Aww, Kaelix, you're cute too."
Zeal sat back down and gave Kaelix a big hug. Kaelix whined; embarrassed by accidentally saying a simple word. Lunch time came around, and the two packed up their items, successfully doing work and spending time together; they walked down the hallway together, heading to the school's store to see what they had.
Zeal never brought his own food; he'd always eat at home, but sometimes Kaelix heard his stomach growling during class. He'd always bring a little snack for Zeal to munch on; the boy appreciated it a ton, always saying thank you, promising to buy him snacks in return.
At the store, Zeal saw a gluten-free sandwich, but it wasn't his favorite and didn’t really find much appetizing while they were in there. Kaelix asked him if he wanted to leave campus for lunch. Zeal nodded, and the two left campus for a bit to search for lunch. The convenience store was the best option since they had a bunch of options and, for a reasonable price, the two headed in and saw other students leaving. The familiar sound filled both their ears as the doors opened and the aisles of food for their grabbing were there. Zeal led Kaelix over to the sandwich shelf and saw a spicy chicken sandwich. Zeal instantly grabbed it and then a bottle of water.
"That's all you want? How about a snack for later, maybe?"
"Mmmm, no, I'm good."
Kaelix felt a bit uneasy hearing that, but couldn't explain it. He grabbed an egg and cheese sandwich and some water for himself.
The two came to the register and put their items down for the clerk to scan.
"Alright, the total is $10.84."
Kaelix pulled out a 10 bill and then 2 singles. Their items were put into disposable plastic bags, and then they left; Kaelix gave Zeal his water bottle as the two sat down on a bench right in front of the sea.
They couldn't endure silence and just ate together. Kaelix leaned onto Zeal, silently listening for that heartbeat as the other munched on his food. Zeal used one hand to comb through Kaelix's hair; he melted into the touch instantly, enjoying the feeling of those nails combing through the strands. Kaelix grabbed his own sandwich and started to eat it as Zeal finished. He pulled Kaelix over for him to sit up straighter. Now he lay on Kaelix's side – yawning a bit as he relaxed into the other.
He fell asleep within the next minute, Kaelix noticed, but didn't say anything as he enjoyed the peace and how Zeal trusted him. He looked so vulnerable and yet could throw a punch and beat someone up; It's crazy to even fathom that. That's how they first met after all, it's been months, and Zeal attends classes more often. Kaelix ate his food silently as he observed the waves of the sea move slowly back and forth on the shore.
'Gosh I love him so badly'
