Chapter Text
September First, 1992. Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. Great Hall. Immediately following the sorting.
As the last newly sorted first year sat at their table, Dumbledore stood up to address the students when there was a loud knock on the door. A look of confusion crossed his face before it cleared up. He quieted the hall down and waved his wand to open the door.
As the door swung open everyone in the room turned to look at who was at the door. It was a semi-tanned, dark-haired lady in a suit and sunglasses, holding a black briefcase in her left hand. Dumbledore one again was perplexed.
“Hello Ma’am. May I ask whom you are and why you are here?” Dumbledore addressed the mysterious lady.
A slight smirk graced her face. “I am Agent L from the MIA. I have been assigned here for this school year by the ICW to ensure that this school is up to standard.”
Dumbledore was concerned. He had heard nothing about this. “That can’t be true. I am Supreme Mugwump. I would have heard about this.”
Agent L raised an eyebrow and replied. “At the time of the meeting you were missing, and as later found out, at England’s Wizengamot. The decision was made without you and finalized a few days later. They had America spare an Agent from the Magical Intelligence Agency to overlook this school year.”
Dumbledore frowned. “Hogwarts is not under the ICW’s control. It is sovereign.”
“To the Wizengamot it is. However, in Article 3,064, Chapter 14, Section 7 of the ICW Protocols it stated that any location with more than two hundred students for more than five consecutive months at a boarding school was subject to ICW Policy. Hogwarts more than meets that standard. They received a complaint about this school and based on the nature of the complaint it was felt that it was imperative that the school was inspected.”
Dumbledore frowned even more before sighing and relenting. “Fine. But I will be speaking to the ICW. Hogwarts is one of the safest places in the world.”
“Perhaps. But that is for me to decide. I also would like to request a staff meeting tonight to brief all staff members on what to expect.” Agent L spoke evenly.
He nodded. “Yes. There is a staff meeting tonight two hours after curfew.” He then waved his wand and the Staff Table slightly lengthened and another chair appeared at the end.
Agent L nodded and sat in the chair. Dumbledore went up to the podium to address the students. “Hello and welcome to another exciting year at Hogwarts. For the first years and those who seem to forget, the Forbidden Forest is forbidden.” A faint scratching could be heard at the end of the table, where Agent L looked over the hall, a pen writing on a notepad by itself. Dumbledore continued. “Outside Mr. Filch’s Office there is the list of all contraband and otherwise banned items. And with that tuck in.” He clapped his hands and food filled the tables.
Agent L looked around and was disappointed that she barely found anything remotely healthy, even at the Staff Table. The pen took note of that. Maybe it was just for the welcoming feast? As she continued to take notes, she noticed the doors creak slightly open and two students rushed in, escorted by an older Professor. Noted. Agent L was exceptionally good at her job and her job stated that she needed to do what she could to fix this school. Notes were an effective way to start.
She picked the healthiest items she could find to eat, but continued to scan, noting everything.
After the feast was done, Dumbledore had Mr. Filch, the caretaker of the Hogwarts, take her to her new room. She had requested that it be in an unused part of the castle as she could then begin to set up her equipment. He nodded and walked off, her following. Under his breath he was cursing out the students. That went on paper.
A few minutes later Mr. Filch unlocked one of the doors leading to the east wing of Hogwarts. The East and South wings were completely barren of life for years and had been locked off. The North was the most used, while the West was used by a few people. Agent L’s rooms were right on the inside of the wing. She entered the dusty room as Mr. Filch left. She had plenty of work cut out for her.
After an hour and a half, the rooms were fully furnished and clean. She pulled a pocket watch out of an inside pocket on her suit and checked the time. She left the room, activating the hidden wards on it as she left, and headed for the Great Hall. When she arrived, she noticed one Professor waiting for her.
“Hello Agent L. I am Potion’s Professor Severus Snape. If you would follow me to the staff room.” Severus Snape told Agent L.
They walked down a few halls until they came to a solid wooden door. Snape opened the door to let them both into the brightly lit room.
All the staff sat around the table except for Snape. He then took his seat and Agent L took the last open seat on the very end. She laid her briefcase on the table and unlocked and opened the snaps. She then sat there patiently waiting. The staff looked at each other, silently.
Dumbledore sighed and spoke. “Well Agent L. What is it that you are requesting this meeting for?”
Agent L pulled a bunch of papers out and stood up, passing out a packet to each staff member, and keeping on for herself, just in case. “What I have just passed out is the policy’s that the ICW have set for boarding schools. I suggest frequently checking them as I have a master copy that allows me to add more policies as time goes on. If you flip to the third page, it goes over the requirement for the nutrition. The fourth page is the Potion Lab requirements. And so on. Page 47 details emergency procedures. The 60th page to the 70th page goes into extreme detail over the end of the year inspection. After that is the note pages, where you can see the notes that I have taken. As you can see it has already got quite a few items in it. One the problem one of the notes states has been resolved I will erase the note. The goal by the end of the year is to empty the note pages and pass the end of year inspection. If that goal is met, then I go back to the MIA. If it fails, I get a choice. I can either stay here longer until the goal has been met, or Hogwarts gets closed. And as an incentive the ICW will be covering the costs to ensure that Hogwarts passes, within reason.” The room was near silent for a while, only filled by the sounds of breathing and pages turning. Dumbledore was frowning and seemed upset. A few professors were happy, a few worried.
Agent L stood off to the side and waited. Dumbledore mumbled something to another professor. Professor McGonagall if Agent L remembered correctly, which she did. They talked in hushed tones for a few seconds. Dumbledore seemed not to want to change a thing, while McGonagall wanted the changes. Eventually Dumbledore caved when she said something about the ICW shutting the school down if they failed. He agreed to the terms and Agent L sat down to listen to the rest of the staff meeting.
After the meeting was finished, they departed for their rooms.
Next Morning.
As the last few students came into the Great Hall and collected their timetables Agent L walked in, in a new black suit with a red tie, her briefcase and sunglasses with her. She quickly went up to the empty seat at the staff table where she sat last night. She watched as the students collected the timetables. Then she had a thought.
“Professor McGonagall. When is the first set of classes scheduled to start?” Agent L asked.
She looked over at her before answering. “Nine.”
Agent L nodded. “Okay. If you would please tell the Potions, Herbology, Astronomy, Care of Magical Creatures, Runes, and the Applied Magics Professors that before classes today I will be inspecting their classrooms.”
Professor McGonagall looked confused. “Hogwarts doesn’t have an Applied Magics course Agent L.”
Agent L frowned and placed her briefcase on the table in front of her and unclasped it. She opened it and reached in. Her entire arm went into the case before she pulled out a packet of paper and began to flip through it.
“It says right here that Hogwarts teaches Applied Magic by Professor Glaslyn.” Agent L said as she poked the paper. McGonagall looked over and frowned.
“Hogwarts hasn’t taught half of those classes in decades. And a few of them I haven’t ever heard of.”
“Okay. Would you mind creating me a list off all the different classes that Hogwarts does teach? I will need to compare them to the ICW standards. The ICW requires a few of these classes, including Applied Magic. I’m going to- “Agent L suddenly stopped, looking down the hall at a blond-haired boy talking quite loudly to three other students.
“So, Potter. I heard that you missed the train and crashed into the Whomping Willow. And Weasel, I heard that you broke your wand. What is your poor family going to do? Surely, they can’t afford a wand, especially in that hovel that you call a house.”
Agent L looked around at the staff. No did anything about the blatant bullying. She quickly flipped open her packet of paper and write something quickly. Dumbledore saw that and opened his packet to the notes. He frowned before standing.
“Mr. Malfoy. Ten points from Slytherin for bullying a fellow student and detention tonight with Professor Snape.” He said, looking annoyed at having to deal with it or with Mr. Malfoy. He looked back. It was gone now. He sighed and sat back down as Mr. Malfoy looked affronted, but when back to his table.
Agent L continued where she left off. “As I was saying. I will talk to the Headmaster later about the missing classes. As for now let the teachers know. Also, I would like to request a syllabus for every class.” McGonagall nodded and went walking around to tell the appropriate Professors. After a few minutes, when all the Hogwarts students had filled in and sat down, waiting on food, Agent L stood up and prepared to speak. The hall went silent, waiting on what the strange American would say.
“Hello, all students and faculty at Hogwarts. May I have your attention?” Agent L spoke calm and level. Every head in the room turned towards her. “I am Agent L from the American MIA. That stands for Magical Intelligence Agency. I am here this year to perform a thorough inspection of this school. I have set up my office in room 13 of the East Wing of Hogwarts. If you have a complaint, you may drop a letter, anonymous or not, in the box next to the door, or come find me to arrange a meeting. I am here to improve this school. Any suggestions would be very useful. You may come and talk to me about anything. I swear that it will be kept confidential unless it is a matter of significant importance that it must be known. And that also goes for the Professors. If all goes well this school should be up to shape by the end of the year.” Dumbledore looked tempted to stand and say something but wisely thought better of it.
The hall broke out in quiet murmurs as Agent L turned to sit back down. She began to fill out some paperwork when a strange noise filled the hall. It was a ringing. She looked annoyed and she pulled out a white box from her pocket and pushed one part of it. The then held it up to her ear. The hall was once again quiet as they waited to see what was going to happen.
“Hello this is Agent L speaking.” She was quiet, but those close to her could still hear her, if just barely. “Yes. Yes. I will send a copy of the paperwork over with Mipsy. That item is locked up in MIAAIV number 12. I’ll have Mipsy get it as well. No sir. Yes sir. Of course, sir.” Most purebloods had no idea what was happening. She looked mad, speaking to seemingly no one. Most half-bloods and muggleborns knew that she was using, but they had no idea how as technology didn’t work in Hogwarts. A few mumbled to one another as they told each other about their failed attempts to bring music players, phones, and other such devices to the magical school, only for them to be destroyed.
Agent L pulled the phone away from her ear and cancelled the call. She then clapped her hands and said clearly, “Mipsy.” One quiet pop later and there was a small humanoid being standing there in a dark red dress. The purebloods knew that creature as a house-elf. Much like the ones that take care of the school or their homes.
She kneeled in front of Mipsy and spoke quietly to her. “Mipsy. I need you to go to my office and grab file 19332. It is the Jefferson Case. Do not open it. Also go to the MIAAIV 12 and get-“ She spoke even quieter. “Get the golden box. But don’t touch it or open it. Both will be going to Mr. Johnson.” The house elf nodded and disappeared with a pop.
Around that time the mail began to arrive. Agent L watched carefully, the automated pen floating near her left hand jolted into action, writing notes along her papers. Dumbledore noticed the pen’s movements and carefully flipped through his packet again and frowned heavily. Owls being allowed to deliver mail during mealtimes was a health violation apparently.
A commotion came from the window that let the owls in. An old grey, quite ragged looking owl had flown through it, bumping into several annoyed looking owls carrying a red envelope. A group of redheaded boys all paled, a pair of twins and a younger boy, whose face was coated in food.
As the owl made his way to the youngest redhead boy, his wings suddenly locked up, causing him to plummet towards the table. Right before he slammed into a large bowl of porridge, a gloved hand caught him by the legs. Agent L righted him and set him down on the table, far as possible from any food and removed the red envelope.
“Are you Ronald Billius Weasley?” She asked the boy the owl was aiming for. At his nod she continued. “Write them back and tell them that Howlers are no longer allowed at Hogwarts. It is a form of bullying that will no longer be allowed.” He nodded and she carefully yanked out the pink ribbon on it and handed him the now deactivated howler. She then made her way back up to the staff table. Agent L then asked McGonagall if the professors were ready for the inspection. She nodded.
Agent L walked over to Professor Snape, and he let out an annoyed sigh and turned for the door. Agent L followed him out and downstairs into the dungeon. He opened the door to the potions classroom and let the Agent in.
She looked around, the floating pen scribbling down notes rapidly. “No.”
Snape seemed confused. “No?”
Agent L turned towards him and explained. “This room does not come even close to passing standard. There is no ventilation for dangerous fumes. The desks are enchanted wood, and the enchantments look to be failing. The room is dimly lit and damp. I can clearly see mildew and mold growing around the edges of the room. The runes for the burners are out of calibration. Getting the proper temperature would be exceedingly difficult for a Potion Master, much less students. And over all this room is rather outdated. But I suppose that is the look Hogwarts is going for, so I can excuse that.”
For a second Snape looked emotionless, before a frown came onto his face. “And what are you going to do? Dumbledore tells the staff that Hogwarts doesn’t have the money to spare to do much of anything.”
Agent L frowned and then shook her head. “Well. I did say that the ICW would pay for any reasonable improvements for the school. I will talk about this in tonight’s meeting. In your packet is the requirements for the Potion Lab. Write all supplies either necessary or wanted and I will look over it. Have it done by tonight’s meeting.” Snape nodded and headed for a small door in the back of the room.
Agent L turned and left, closing the door in the process. She then went to the next classroom.
The Runes, Astronomy, and Herbology classrooms were up to standard, however the Care of Magical Creatures was hard to deal with. It passed, but just barely as the fences were starting to age badly and the creatures were getting to be too many for their paddocks. But Professor Grubbly-Plank said that she had a plan for them.
As evening rolled around Agent L headed back to the Castle for dinner. On her way up the steps, she could feel the hair on the back of her neck standing up. She quickly whipped around, a silver 1911 pistol in each hand, pointing at the Forbidden Forest. She had a bad feeling and if her extensive training had taught her anything, it was that her instincts were to be trusted.
She made her way towards the dark forest, the two pistols still aiming into it, her eyes rapidly scanning for anything. It was silent and still. She took a few more steps into the trees.
There. She twisted, aiming at the creature that burst out from behind a bush. It was a niffler. She sighed and relaxed as it came up to her, sniffing at her. She placed the pistols back in their holsters and pulled out a few galleons. She then tossed them in the air and watched as the furry creature jumped for them. She let out a quiet laugh and turned back for the castle. This time she made it all the way to the Great Hall, just before dinner was to be served.
When she entered the hall was filled with students talking and having a good time. Well. Most of them. Agent L noticed a blonde haired Ravenclaw girl sitting by herself with Dirigible Plum earrings, and she was barefoot. She sat by herself, with the nearest Ravenclaw almost three meters away.
Agent L changed course from the Staff Table to the Ravenclaw. She came up behind the little first year and said hello.
The tiny girl turned, “Hello Agent L. Are you looking for something as well?”
“I’m always looking for something, but not right now. I was wondering why you were by yourself. And where did your shoes go.” Agent L spoke softly.
The blonde-haired girl looked slightly down for a second before replying. “I don’t have any friends. The Nargles took my shoes this morning. My name is Luna. Luna Lovegood. Though most people call me Looney.” Luna had a small smile on her face; however, it was far too easy for Agent L to see the pain in her eyes. And a part of the mysterious Agent went out to Luna, remembering her own childhood.
“That won’t do at all. Would you like to become my friend?” Agent L asked quietly.
Luna looked up at her, her silver eyes glistening with unshed tears and launched herself at the Agent. It took much of the Agent’s will to not go on the defensive and instead slowly wrap her arms around the small child. “Yes please. I haven’t had a friend for a long time other than Daddy, since…” Luna mumbled into Agent L’s suit.
Agent L bent down and whispered something into Luna’s ear and when they separated, Luna was smiling brightly. Agent L then called for Mipsy.
“Mipsy. Luna Lovegood had had her personal belongings stolen by … Nargles?” Luna nodded. “Could you get the items back and place them with the rest of Luna’s belongings.”
Mipsy popped away with a ‘Yes Miss’
Agent L gave Luna another small hug and went up to the Staff Table. She noticed Dumbledore and Professor Flitwick watching her carefully. As she passed the short man she mumbled in Goblin “We need to speak tonight after the staff meeting. I have evidence that Miss Lovegood is being bullied.” And she dropped a small piece of paper in front of him.
It read ‘Miss Lovegood’s stolen items were found among the items of the other eagle house members. –Mipsy’
Both Flitwick and Dumbledore were shocked at her ability to speak Goblin. Flitwick quickly read the note and she could see that he was getting angry. She sat down at her seat and waited for Dinner to begin. Dumbledore simply clapped his hands and food popped onto the table. There were a few platters of healthy food, however most was still junk food. Agent L raised an eyebrow and noted it. Dumbledore already had the packet open and frowned. Agent L picked some ham and baked potatoes. Halfway through the meal Professor Lockhart came strolling in through the main door. He started heading for his seat, until he noticed Agent L. He then changed course for her.
He stopped in front of her and put on a confident smile and spoke. “Hello Lydia. I noticed you didn’t come check out me, err my classroom? Or if you would like I could assist you in looking through the school. I am sure that an Order of Merlin recipient, such as myself, would be more than capable of assisting you with… anything that you could want.”
Agent L had looked up when he started to speak, curious at first, but very quickly becoming annoyed, though hiding it well, when she figured out that he was trying to get into her pants. She replied flatly “The Defense Classroom is not in my schedule for prior to the year inspection, however I do go through every class over the next few days to see if each class is up to par with the standards. If you are concerned about the safety of the students, I can have Mipsy look it over tonight during the staff meeting.”
Lockhart faulted, confused at first before he realized that she was trying to turn him down. Or maybe he just wasn’t clear enough, and she didn’t understand. She was American after all.
“No, that won’t be necessary Lydia. And I am sure that you are going to be amazed by my class tomorrow. But tonight, maybe you and I could go back to” He started before he was interrupted by the Agent, who stood up and turned to leave. He grabbed her arm to try and stop her, and the next thing he knew, he was pressed up against the table with both arms behind his back being forced up towards his neck. He whined in pain before he was released.
“Here are a few words of advice for you. One: I am here on a mission and that does not involve you getting in my pants. Two: As of this year I am your supervisor. Any kind of relationship would be highly inappropriate. Three: If you ever grab me or even touch me without reason again, I will make sure that you never win Witch Weekly’s most Charming Smile Award ever again. Also, my name is NOT Lydia.” Agent L whispered in his ear. She then backed away and continued on her way out, the rest of the Great Hall silent as Lockhart laid there for a second before standing straight and chocking out something about letting her show a muggle move to stop someone and how he could have easily broken free.
A few people knew that he was lying, but they said nothing. He let out a pained smile and made his way out of the Great Hall, from the opposite side from Agent L.
That night at the Staff Meeting.
Agent L walked into the staff room and took her seat. She was the last one there. The rest of the staff was talking until she walked in. They refocused their attention on L. She calmly laid her ever-present briefcase on the table and opened it. She pulled out a couple papers and looked through them. She nodded and looked over at Professor Snape and he silently slid a folded bit of parchment across the table to her. Dumbledore looked intrigued at what it was. His hands twitched like he wanted to grab it but restrained himself.
She grabbed it and looked it over. She was impressed at the suggestions he had placed down. There was no item on the list that she had any problem with. And the price was nicely set. She then memorized the number and slid the parchment back.
She organized the papers in front of her, then began. “Before I start with my part, does anyone have anything they feel I should know? Or any requests of me?”
The staff looked around at each other. One member looked like he wanted to say something, but a sharp glance from Dumbledore stopped it. She made a mental note of it.
“Okay. So, I will begin. Most classrooms I checked passed. The Care of Magical Creatures, and Potion’s classes need to be worked on, mostly Potions. And there are several required classes that Hogwarts is not offering. Far too many. I am willing to let the Headmaster have until the New Year to find suitable teachers and get them ready to teach. Otherwise, I will find someone. And before you say a word about the Budget, let me tell you something. Hogwarts is fully eligible for the ICW’s Private Schooling Funds. It gives a certain amount of money every year to the school, based on several factors, to continue running. Also, every five to twenty years every school is given a bonus to improve something. Right now, I am allowed to write out a check to give an advanced bonus to help the school.”
As she said that she began to write on a small piece of paper and folded it in half. She then passed it to the Headmaster who immediately opened it and went pale. “Fifty Thousand Galleons. This is far too much.” He quickly spoke.
The Staff looked shocked at the amount. Agent L smirked and answered him. “No. That is a starting amount to bring the school up to spec, hire new teachers, and fulfill the list that Professor Snape has written. Let it be perfectly clear that the money is to be used for the school, not something personal. Oh. As well I have also prepared the paperwork for the ICWPSF, or the schooling funds. Headmaster, you will need to look over it, fill it out, and gather a majority of signatures on the board. That is to let the Board and Headmaster have a majority say in what happens in this school. If it is not filled out on time, and the school fails inspection, then ICW’s selected representative will take over all decisions in the school. And that rep would be me. As of right now I am merely overlooking what happens, with minimal direct say.”
Agent L stepped back and took her seat as everyone processed this information. Dumbledore looked concerned. Most professors were cautious, but happy. Filch looked grumpy, but, L noted, he usually was. His hygiene was going to need to be dealt with soon though.
Dumbledore seemed to want to argue but relented quickly and agreed. The rest of the meeting went by smoothly and then everyone was dismissed. L slid a very thick packet of papers to the Dumbledore before leaving. About halfway to her quarters, she felt a strange sensation of someone knocking on her door, through the link between the wards and her. She picked up the pace and arrived before the student even stopped knocking. Agent L wasn’t even out of breath from sprinting across a large section of the school, up and down stairs. Standing outside of her door was a first-year boy in Ravenclaw robes. He noticed L straight away.
L walked up to him slowly. She made careful moves as to not scare the boy. She kneeled next to him and took off her sunglasses, revealing ice blue eyes, matching the boy’s.
“Hello. What can I do for you Mr.?” Agent L asked.
He looked at his feet and mumbled out “Nathan Jolen. I miss my mummy and daddy.” Tears began to well up in his eyes.
Agent L patted his shoulder and stood up. She pushed open the door, revealing her office. An elegant mahogany desk sat in the middle back of the room. Behind it was a black leather office chair, while in front of the desk was two comfortable looking office chairs, and on the wall behind the desk was a picture of a white two-story country house on a cliff. A gravel driveway led to the closed garage. An old oak tree sat near the edge of the cliff, with a swing swaying gently in the breeze. A white picket fence ran along the edge, preventing anyone from accidentally falling off it.
One wall of the office was covered in bookshelves, all of which were full. The opposite wall had some filing cabinets, a table, and some regular wooden cabinets. A door sat between the filing cabinets and the wall, in the corner farthest from the door leading to the hall.
Next to the door she just came in through was a soft sofa, and the rest of the walls were empty. Agent L gestured for the little boy to enter the room. She made her way over to the table and began to mess around with some stuff in the cabinets.
The boy took a seat at one of the chairs in front of the desk and watched as she put two coffee mugs into a microwave and turn it on. 30 seconds later it beeped, and she pulled them out. She sat one in front of the boy, and sat down in her chair, on the other side of the desk.
“Be careful. It’s hot chocolate.” Agent L said quietly with a smile. She took a small sip and let out a sigh of contentment. Nathan Jolen took the mug and lifted it to his mouth. He took a sip. He smiled, though there were still tears in his eyes.
“So, you miss your parents?” L asked him. He nodded. “Have you written them a letter yet?” He seemed confused at that. “I’m going to take that as a no. How about we do that? Sounds like a plan?” He nodded. L put her mug on a coaster and stood to head to the filing cabinets. She pulled out a piece of paper, then a ballpoint pen, before thinking better and replacing it with a pencil. She placed it on the desk, and instead of sitting in her chair, sat in the chair next to him. He went to place his mug down, and L quickly flicked a coaster under it.
The boy seemed to panic. “I’m sorry. I forgot.”
Agent L smiled and patted him on the back. “Its fine. I forget about it too sometimes. But then Mipsy comes and tells me off. So, don’t apologize. It was an accident.”
He smiled back at her. “Whose Mipsy? Is she your friend?”
Agent L nodded. “Yes, she is. I think she is busy right now, but maybe later you can meet her. How about we get started on this letter?”
He nodded. He grabbed the pencil and looked up at her curiously. “I never got the point of using a quill. I know that you are supposed to write with one, but how about just for tonight you can use the pencil. But it’s a secret alright?”
He nodded and began to write down a few words, before stopping and asking her what to write about.
Agent L thought about it for a second before replying. “Tell them about what Hogwarts is like. Everyone you have met so far. How your time here has been. Anything you want to talk about. I bet that your parents will be excited to hear from you.” He grinned and began to write. Agent L smiled and sat back, waiting for him to finish.
Once he finished L grabbed the letter, folded it and placed it into an envelope. She had him write his address on it. “Come on. Let’s go mail this and then get you back to the Ravenclaw dorms. Take the cup so it doesn’t go to waste.” He grabbed the cup and followed Agent L out the door and down the hall towards the Owlery.
After climbing many staircases, they arrived and sent off the letter, then turned around and walked all the way back down the stairs to the ground floor.
Agent L led the way up to the Ravenclaw dorms and bid Mr. Jolen a good night. Before she could get more than a few steps away, the little firstie asked what about the cup?
Agent L smiled and turned around, kneeling as she did so. “Did you finish it?” she asked. He nodded. “What cup?” She asked. He looked down into his empty hands, surprised that he didn’t notice the cup disappearing.
“How’d you do that?” he asked, awed by it.
Agent L snapped her fingers and simply said Magic, before standing back up and patting him on the head and leaving, her sunglasses appearing back on her face with nothing more than a flick of her fingers.
