What a Weird Kid

Summary:

Reimi has to work on a group project with that one kid in her class.

Notes:

so I had the sudden realization that Reimi and Kira were the same age so I had to type up something quick about it... Yeah I got another wip but this just beckoned

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

"Sugimoto, you will be working with...."

She was praying to God that it wouldn't be him again, anyone but him!

"Kira."

She sighed, defeated. First library and cleaning duty, now this? Why couldn't it be Aya? How come every time there was something partner related, she had to be paired with Kira? Just because she was nice, doesn't mean that she'd gladly team up with any weirdo to protect him from ridicule. It's not that he's a bad kid, he did well in school and he behaved, but there's nothing outstanding about him. He just sat in his own little corner, off in his own little world. Sometimes he'd stare at girls, which was kinda creepy, but he's a teenage boy, what could you do? He's a bit of an enigma, which made his presence that more uncomfortable.

Kira, on the other hand, didn’t care one way or another. As long as he got the work done, it didn't matter who he worked with. At least Reimi was a reliable partner.

"Hello, Reimi."

She jumped. When did he get here!

"Er, I was wondering, when are we going to work on this? It's due next week."

"Oh! Um... Well, I don't have time to go to the library, I have to babysit my neighbors' kid...."

"Then I'll just come over to your house. Problem solved."

"I-it's not that simple! People will talk! And the kid I'm babysitting doesn't like strangers!"

"Then when will we get this done?"

'He does have a point...' Reimi thought. As much as she didn't like the idea of some boy at her home...

"Fine. You can come over on the weekend. Hopefully you don't have any plans."

"Don't worry, I never have plans."

------------

Sunday, 3:00 PM. Rohan and Arnold were sleeping, and she finally had some time to get started on the project. Reimi was getting hopeful, maybe he decided to bail! But, of course, at that moment, she heard the doorbell ring. Praying that it wasn't Kira, she opened the door, and, of course, it's Kira. Why was he wearing his uniform on a weekend?

"Good afternoon, Reimi. Sorry for being late."

"...Good afternoon, Kira... Um... Why don't you come in? The stuff is set up on the living room table."

Kira sat down and looked around the house. "It's a lot quieter than I thought it'd be... I thought you said you were babysitting?"

"Oh, he's sleeping right now. He shouldn't be up anytime soon."

Suddenly, they heard a door creak, and a small voice said, "Reimi... I'm hungry..." Rohan stepped into the living room, with Arnold following. Kira could feel his heart begin to race. A dog? She never said she owned a dog! He grabbed the box cutter and pointed at it.

"Get away! Or I'll kill you!"

Rohan began bawling and ran out of the room with Arnold.

"Oh no... I'll get you food, Rohan, just wait in the kitchen!" Reimi glared at Kira. He put the box cutter down, smoothed out his clothes, picked it up again, and continued working. Does he feel no shame?

"What is wrong with you! You can't just point a knife at them! No wonder you have no friends!"

Those words had no affect on Kira. "I'm sorry, but the dog just came at me! I felt no choice but to defend myself. Why couldn't you have a nicer animal, like a cat or something."

Reimi huffed. 'Arnold did not come after him! He was quietly following Rohan,' she thought.

"Just to be on the safe side, I'm taking this box cutter away from you. Just because you're afraid of dogs doesn't mean you can do that."

She reached out her hand to get the box cutter from him, but she saw that his gaze lingered on her hands.

"Reimi, has anyone ever told you that you have beautiful hands?"

"W-what was that, Kira?"

He suddenly grabbed her outstretched hand's wrist, with the box cutter in his other hand.

"Kira, let go!"

Reimi jerked her hand away and grazed it on the edge of the box cutter. A trickle of blood escaped the shallow cut.

"Oh, I'm sorry... Here's the box cutter...I'll get you a bandage..."

"No thanks, I can do it myself."

'Does he have no impulse control?' she thought, as she got a bandage from the first aid kit, 'At least he seemed apologetic...'

"Reimiiiiiii! I'm hungryyyy!!" Rohan wailed.

"Sorry, Rohan! I'll be right there!" She put the box cutter in her pocket and went to prepare a snack for him. Kira was alone in the living room for the time being. As he was coloring in some box letters, he thought about how nice it would be to have her cute, small, silky smooth hands. If only he could just wring her thin, white neck between his hands... He shook his head. No, no, no, focus on the task at hand and take care of that later! He scribbled vigorously to get his mind off of things, and Reimi reentered the room with Rohan close behind.

"Sorry for taking so long, Kira. I hope you don't mind Rohan being here, he won't leave me alone! Maybe he's jealous of you." She chuckled. Rohan gave Kira a look, as if to say, "You're the one who hurt Reimi's hand!"

"...As long as that dog is nowhere to be seen."

"Don't worry, Arnold's taking a nap. And Rohan won't be a bother, he'll just draw in his corner."

"...Alright."

They worked in silence, with Kira stealing some glances at her hands at work. The way they used the pencils and markers was enthralling, in a way. Reimi reached for a pair of scissors, but this time, Kira wouldn't let his chance slip away. He grabbed her hand and kissed it.

"Kira..." Reimi's heart was beating a hundred per second, and her face was red hot. Despite her reservations about him... This was a bit exciting! Who knew such a quiet kid could be like this!

He kissed up her arm, her neck, and finally, her lips. He broke away and placed her hands in his.

"Reimi... You're a work of art... Simply stunning..." He took her thin wrists in his right hand and held them above her head and wrapped his left arm around her waist. "If you don't mind..."

"I-I don't mind..." she stammered. With that, he pulled her close and gave her a deeper kiss, and his left hand explored her body, making her melt like ice cream on a hot day. Of all her first-kiss scenarios, this was definitely not one of them. But now that she thought about it... he wasn't so bad once you got to know him... and he was pretty cute, now that she got a good look at his face... he does have a bit of a rock star look to him...

While these thoughts were running through her head, Kira had other plans. He felt around for the box cutter. She must've put it somewhere on her person! He felt it in her pocket and just when he was about to get it...

"Ew!" Rohan chimed in. Kira forgot that brat was here! "Reimi is kissing someone!"

Reimi pushed Kira off and hurriedly said, "Please don't tell my parents about this, Rohan! I'll let you eat ice cream for dinner!"

After weighing his options, Rohan agreed. "But on one condition: I can eat ice cream right now too!"

"But you just had ice cream!"

Rohan gave her a look.

"Oh, alright... I'll go get you some now."

Now it was just the two of them. Kira went to pick up Rohan and brought him up to eye level.

"You're lucky. If it weren't for you, you and your babysitter would be dead by now... My first victims, actually."

Rohan pursed his lips. Kira shook him.

"What, got nothing to say?"

Rohan couldn't hold back anymore, and regurgitated the ice cream he had earlier on Kira's clean, white shirt.

"You... you disgusting little brat! How am I going to clean this?"

Reimi walked in with the ice cream. "Kira, what happened- Oh my goodness! Rohan, don't smirk like that, go get yourself cleaned up! I don't think you should be eating ice cream. Kira, I'm sorry about that, you can use the sink to clean your shirt."

"Thank you," Kira replied, and he went to the kitchen as Reimi got started cleaning the floor. If he could make her fall for him that easy, imagine how easy it would be to get away with anything around her! Yes... This quiet house would be the first to experience his true nature. He hung his shirt outside to get dried by the sun.

"Oh, I'm sorry we don't have any clean clothes for you to wear... Use one of the towels for now. They're in the bathroom closet." Reimi said from the living room.

'Now's my chance!' he thought. He explored the house and took down a mental map in his head. If he was to commit murder here, he'd have to know what it's like. 'What a nice house,' he thought, 'it's a real shame.'

Notes:

So yeah that's it? Thanks for reading! I might add more bc I kinda wanna do more with the idea of Kira and Reimi being in the same class...
EDIT: so idk if anyone was wondering why Reimi is calling Kira by his last name and Kira is calling Reimi by her first name but in Japanese (I think) they'd be calling each other "Kira-kun" and "Reimi-san," respectively, especially since, while they are not incredibly close, they are still peers. I just didn't write in honorifics because I felt that would be awkward to read in English. Credibility: I am taking Japanese classes in school, and the teacher is a native Japanese speaker.
EDIT II: I guess I'll make a series called Morioh Babysitters Club, since its not really supposed to be one coherent story, just snapshots of life before he... yeah...
